TNice tutorials was a fantastic beginner's guide, straight to the point, very clear. As a long-ti teacher I can tell you are quite apt at teacNice tutorialng!
Great video. I look forward to all your videos. I wouldn't use it enough to justify the price either unless maybe it had a feature that could export the dxf linework as only straight lines and radii. I created a very similar gate for a scenic job recently that required cutting out by CNC which doesn't like splines and so had to do it by hand in AutoCAD. Could it do that do you think? Or do you know of a process in Illustrator or AutoCAD that could accomplish the same thing?
Hey, genius, if you have PS you can make a path from selection LOL. If you have AI you can vectorize any image ahahaha. I think open software is great, but this function has been available for over a decade, so if you already have the software, just use what you have.
There is a right click "generate faces" option if you have the plugin "Tools on Surface" by Fredosix installed. I use the plugin Make Face by s4u as well.
Sorry, you lost me (and I stopped watching) as soon as I saw the $300 price tag. It may be a great tool for professionals who need this every day but I am not one of them. Yes, there is a monthly subscription option but it is not fully functional and I have no use for that business model. If I cannot own my software outright, I am not interested.
+Yoo Toob All good things come with a price I suppose. There are some free options. The best is probably Inkscape. There is an option under "Path" to "trace bitmap". You can do this and then export to .dxf. It works well, it's just not as clean of a result and there is some manual cleanup to do on the Sketchup side. There is also WinTopo and another one similar to Vector Magic, called "Magic Tracer" which is about $60. I've tried them all, and for VM was the best of the best. It's also saved me tons of time in my professional work, which is why I got it. If I get a chance, I'll do a similar tutorial using Inkscape.
+Winning With Sketchup I completely understand that for professionals Vector Magic is worth the money but for me, as a hobbyist it's not cost effective. I'm not opposed to spending money but I need both perceived value and cost benefit. For $300 I can buy several plugins for SketchUp and maybe even some XFrog Palm Trees for Thea Render. If you get around to a tutorial with Inkscape I will be sure to watch. Now I'm off to watch you model a tree after I learn a trick for rendering pool water!
