I've been struggling a lot because I wanted my first scene to be my characters driving to the haunted hotel (that they will eventually get trapped in). I thought this was good bc it introduced all my four MCs, while having some internal dialogue from the main MC's POV, And then the sort of omg what's gonna happen aspect of them driving up to the hotel and the atmosphere gets creepier.
But then I'm like AUGHH because it feels like I'm introducing TOO many characters now. (5 actually, because the person driving is one MC's older sister), and now I'm like what if it's boring? It is isn't it? Like just driving in a car. Because there's also WAY too much that needs to said but I can't info dump. Like I COULD start already at the hotel, but then that wipes that fifth character I need the reader to meet. I honestly fear I could get my characters desires, personalities, and misbeliefs down, even memorized but I'll never be able to translate that nicely into what is NOT a list form, or outright saying it. It's only draft 0 but it's stressing me outttt.

Are the questions asked in TH-cam, considered for the qna section?
Btw really useful podcast, would be better if the book cover could be shown on screen.

thats a great idea, we'll be doing that going forward! but for questions, if you can submit them on the website link, that is much easier for us to include

Question. Why are we advised to avoid glue, filter, and filler words when the best-selling authors use them all the time in their books?
It gets me stuck for months, editing these words until my manuscript is no longer my voice.

i think it always comes back to the reason behind why you use certain words. is it character voice? because if so, it becomes part of a manuscript. also -- different editors have different editing styles, some leave these words in, and some get rid of them.
