I believe the creator of this show is trying to create a metaphor for the holocaust edlians(jews they got armbands just like jews in the holocaust) Marlians(nazi germany) But the behavior displayed by these marlians towards the eldians can shows examples of racism throughout all of history. European settlers definitely treated Africans indentured servants this way.
