    I think this video just made my mind up for my diesel dually tow vehicle for when I purchase our 5th Wheeler RV. I've been going between the Ford, GMC/Chevy Duramax, and Dodge Cummins Ram.
    I know that you are basically a Ford man by watching your videos. I find your videos very informative since my wife and I will be returning soon and going full-time RV'rs.
    I have a couple of months yet before we hit the road and go full-time.

    I have had my 2017 f350 dually for about a month now...I pull a 42' fifth wheel and I have to say that it's truly the best super duty that I've ever owned. The only thing I don't like is the rear cup holder. You've represented this truck well!

    You're becoming the premier "truck reviewer" on TH-cam. Your videos are objective and informative and, IMO intended for "truck guys" who know the products. Thank you for all the hard work that you put into these reviews. This is a gorgeous F-350 and I'm really glad that Ford got the update right. It was the small rear seat on the previous Crew Cab and what I considered to be poor interior quality that made me choose the RAM 2500 Laramie Mega Cab when I ordered it in 2015. It will now be interesting to watch Ford and Ram battle it out for the next few years. I'm betting that you'll be in a 2017 SD within the next 6 months ;-)

      METALITHrevetments: Very kind of you to say! I try to make quality reviews in a "non-traditional" way. I'm eyeing several trucks right now (from RAM, GM, and Ford). Hopefully one of them is the right fit.

    BTBVR, great video. I recently traded in my 2016 F-350 Lariat dually for the 2019 F-350 Platinum dually, and I agree it's much quieter, and the ride is night and day difference. I love my new truck, but have to say the tail gate step is not a robust as the old version, and the ride height is around 2 inches more than the 2016, plus the bed height is another inch taller. This could be an issue for 5th wheel owners who need the 5 - 6 inch bed clearance while maintaining level towing.

    I had a 99 F350 SRW with the 7.3 for 11+years and I loved it. I had stopped towing for several years so I went to a yuppy truck. Now that I am starting to tow again I am ordering the F450 Platinum in Ruby Red. Crazy money but when you think about aluminum body and keeping it 15 years it isn't so bad. When you have the best beast out there - there is nothing to upgrade. Gonna be a long 8+ weeks to get it though. Thanks for your reviews. One Question though? To soften the ride when empty (and "wife" is in the truck) I was thinking air ride in the rear to soften the ride. What do you suggest? Thanks again

    Nice review. What was the MSRP as tested? Also, can you comment more on the auto start technology for diesels? As a prior owner of a 2006 F250, pre-warming the glow plug was always required prior to starting. How have they addressed that with push button and remote start features?

    We bought the 2017 model and used it to tow a 45' Jayco toy hauler. around 20,000lbs. Towed it like a dream! Never had a problem. We just now traded it in for the same truck, 2019 model. a few nice option upgrades. Same engine/trans package. In your professional opinion, could this truck safely handle towing/stopping a larger toy hauler in the 30,000 GVWR range? We are considering trading up to a 48' LUXE toy hauler and don't really want to jump up to a F650 or something huge..... Thanks in advance!

    Had a 1997 Dodge Dually regular cab with the V10. I loved that truck, mainly because at the time I could outrun "ricers" red light to red light because of it's low gearing. I had a blast watching their young faces melt away to disbelief at someone in their 40's beating them. But alas, 10 MPG just finally got to me, and because a 1/2 or 3/4 ton single axle would do me just fine. But I loved the sound of that V10.

      Saddlebag Preacher Sounds awesome man I'm glad you love you're truck mate. I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 205,240 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since.

    I drove a tractor trailer that had adaptive cruise control and it was great until it got icey. When the module on the front of the truck iced over the cruise control wouldn't work at all. To clarify, there are plenty of times when the module can ice over and the roads are perfectly safe to use cruise control. If the roads have snow or are iced over at all then cruise control would be a poor choice and unsafe. I wonder if Ford has done anything to mitigate the icing problem?

    Hi, love your videos, very informative and well made.
    I'm new to the pickup truck world and I'm thinking on getting a fifth wheel and was wondering if you can suggest a pickup truck to for the job. I'm guessing from your other videos a dually is the most stable and safest. Don't want to spend $80k was hoping around under $50K. Any suggestion or directions to look would be much appreciate.
    Thanks in advance.

      +Young Kim: at 50k, RAM will offer you the best bang for the buck. You can get a very well equipped Cummins RAM dually for well under $50k if you shop around. You Dennis Dillion RAM as a price match example. A Ford F350 dually with the STX package and a 6.7 would run you around $50 after discounts and same goes for a GM truck. Until GM puts rear A.C. vents in, it would be a no go for me and my family.

    Nice review. This is pretty much how I would spec my truck if I was buying a new one. Only difference I would do is I would go with the platinum white paint. So over all how would you rank the ride qualities? From what I have heard and read its: f2/350 long bed>f2/350 short bed>f350 dually>f450, do you agree? I have also heard that the ride quality difference in the srw and the drw is not as big anymore compared to the previous generations. And how do you think the new ford compares to the chevy and ram ride quality wise.

    I have to say when I first saw the new 2017 SD I didn't think the front end was appealing but the more I looks at them the more I like them, the folks that have them say they are better than the 11 and up SD's. Now that's a pretty strong statement and driving the other 11 and up SD's is pretty decent they are great trucks.
    The 17's have a lot of nice finishes especially when you get into the higher level SD's like the KR's and Platinum trucks. I have not yet had the chance to see a fulls set up Platinum SD with some of the features your review is based on, but boy does this truck look sweet.
    Honestly I think Ford really upped their game with the features available for these trucks and with the look. I know some people have mentioned with the 11 to 16 SD 6.7's that they felt a little bit of disconnected with the pedal in that when you put your foot on the gas it seems like it took a couple seconds for the truck to want to really go almost like a hesitation for instance.
    Now I have had people say they never had that on their SD's and I only experienced that on one SD at our shop ( turned out it was a boost issue ) But I noticed in your review it seemed like you put your foot in it and she went straight away , maybe Ford cured that issue ( or maybe that was just a condition a few trucks were suffering )
    But nice review on the the Platinum. Now the real question was how tempted were you from going to the wife and saying " Honey, you know I was thinking we should trade off the 15 for a 17 SD " lol

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Funny enough, my wife road with me and said "Get it! its smoother than your truck".... I don't have the heart to tell her that it's likely smoother because of the 17 wheels and tires vs the 19.5 tires i have at 110PSI. I told her that I want the 2017 F450 just to have the wide track front axle. That comes in super handy when backing our fifth wheel into a tight RV park and really needing to get angle on it.

    • @screamindemon811
      @screamindemon811 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would be awfully tempted if the wife said that to me ( mind you I am sure if she ever said that to me I would be dreaming away in a sound sleep...lol ) Totally understand what you are talking about when it comes to a long fifth wheel and getting it into a spot with some tight turns.
      I know when we went from our very first 25 ft to a 37 I was like hoo boy I dunno about this, but once I got used to backing her into a few spots it was way way easier down the line. Now the wife doing the backing in is a whole different story, she doesnt like doing that with this one, our first no problem, this one not so much

    Thank you so much for sharing the video, right in time for me :-). I have been debating on F350 long bed SRW vs dually. My rig is expected < 10k, but I do like the stability and look that the dually offers. Could you provide a little of your unique insights about having this dually (specifically F350 dually for drive ratio of 3.55 for better mpg) when not towing, e.g. drivability, parking, mpg, handling, etc? I had one day of wild idea of owning dually then I got discouraged by the voice of not needed because I don't need it and parking is extremely difficulty. Love to your thought. Thanks!!

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      better slc: Parking it hasn't been bad. If you live in NY or LA that might be a different story. I drive mine to just about any place I can and have rarely had a problem fitting. With any long truck, you get use to backing it into a parking spot, which makes life much easier. 3.55:1 is a great ratio if you're not looking for the very maximum in tow capacity. Still, you'd be hard pressed to find a Fifth Wheel that you couldn't tow with that ratio. I've found that the gear ratio hasn't made much of a different in MPGs for me (4.30 in my truck). Hope this helps.

    • @defmc1

    Following your channel for a while on youtube and came across your review of the F350 dually.
    Question: is this dually "over-kill" to carry a 3,000 (dry weight) Lance short bed camper (855s)? OR, can I downsize my thoughts to a 3/4 ton or 1 ton single axle? I'd be first time truck owner so your channel is great for truck info. Thanks for any reply

      Jim Burwell's Petiquette - You could probably get a 1 ton SRW that would have the payload you'd need. BUT, you're always better to have more truck than you need when you're talking about safety. And, the DRW is going to be way more stable with the camper in the back regardless of its weight. And don't forget your payload isn't just the camper. It's all the people, pets, gear, water, etc that you load in too. If your camper takes up most of the payload your going to be overloaded very easily. I personally would only consider a DRW for an in-bed camper.

    I just test drove a 2017 250 and really liked it, it was missing some key features that I wanted but I will probably end up ordering one from the factory. The only thing is that the truck is so quiet, coming from a 6.0 this thing is silent. Also I like the sunroof but am worried about damaging the glass while working.

    400 watts is a lot for an ax plug in a truck or car. Personally I only ever used 30 watts on a cars household plug

    Something I noticed is how different it sounds from our F-750's. Not sure of the reason, perhaps its just through the camera. Might take a video myself in response.

      Yeah, I attached the camera mount to the sunroof. It shook more than i wanted. Also, the mount is holding a phone, which is pretty heavy compared to a GoPro.

    The only thing that has kept the auto bubble alive is low interest rates and the extension of loans. When I was a kid it was insane to pay over 2 to 3 years on a car loan. A lot of people in the 80s and 90s would still pay cash for cars . People actually owned them. But nowadays I think only 5% of the vehicles on the road are paid off. And the interest rates were horrendous. I've heard they've been extended all the way up to nine years now. If interest rates were to normalize say around 6 to 7% all these vehicles would have to be repoed. hence bubble.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Randomized: while with a Lariat you can opt for pretty much all the same features as a King Ranch, the KR and Platinum packages are both considerably more expensive than the Lariat. They are also both additions to the Lariat package.

    There is a excessive even ludicrous amount of electronics and relays plus I have seen on the truck blogs ceramic ball bearings in the turbo and who knows what else ford engineers have dreamed up making this a very high cost of maintenance. I need to get at least 600 thousand miles out of my trucks and with out them being in the mechanics bay and i dont see this happening with the new ford truck line up

    The F150 and superduty are so similar in price. Why do I want one over the other. MPG is not important, safety is. I'm in Korea and shipping one over. By the way, some of these technologies are in the 2000 Kia that I currently drive in Korea.
