Heya Ppl, after doing this some might realize that their docker desktop is no longer working(stuck at docker desktop is loading). For me, this was the case. I checked "wsl -l -v"(in the command prompt) and realized that docker-desktop-data (the one we relocated) was the wrong version. To solve this I used the command "wsl --set-version docker-desktop-data 2". It should work for you too if you have the same problem. It might take some minutes but it will work! I found this solution purely through luck as I typed a command wrong and saw this command listed with other commands and tried it :)) hope it works for you
You're a life saver. None of the installation instructions to tell docker to use a different directory worked, and my C: drive is partitioned down so having docker containers on it immediately filled it and blue screened my computer

Thank you. I've been trying to migrate my docker containers with persistent data from an old windows laptop to a new windows laptop and what should be a 1 click export/import is basically impossible. Any attempt to google the solution gives you instructions that are always incomplete or are excessively linux related. While not technically "one click" this is the only thing that actually worked.

My imgs/containers were being deleted after each reboot of docker or windows, but i had modified daemon.json, (i changed the data-root property), switch it back as it was. Now this kind of unmounting/mounting works like a charm

Thanks. I tried 5 other methods using docker daemon file, settings file etc. etc. did not work. This one seems to be going fine so far. The image is building and as long as it finishes and don't give disk space error I will be golden.
The video is excellent, but as mentioned by @nicename29 in his comment, you will see the Docker application won't be able to start its service. So you may have to run "wsl --set-version docker-desktop-data 2" and restart the application.

In my specific scenario (Windows 10 with Docker Desktop), none of the aforementioned solutions proved effective. However, I did discover a resolution. Please follow these commands: To alter the Docker directory to the D: drive (ensure Docker Desktop is closed beforehand): Terminate the WSL instance: wsl --shutdown Export the docker-desktop-data: wsl --export docker-desktop-data docker-desktop-data.tar Unregister the existing docker-desktop-data: wsl --unregister docker-desktop-data Reimport docker-desktop-data to the D: drive (you can specify your desired path): wsl --import docker-desktop-data D:\Your\Desired\Path\ docker-desktop-data.tar --version 2 You can now safely delete the .tar file.

Hi,when I try to unregister docker-desktop-data, i get this error message: "Server execution failed". Do you have a clue of why do I get this?
