Air flow under the modules is very important. Most Module MFG will require a minimum gap. 6" of space is not extreme, it will help keep them operating cooler and more efficiently. However, more space could affect the wind loading.

Seems we make the electrical connection by coming over the top of the rather than out the end for a junction box? I'm thinking about how to avoid abrasion between the cut metal and the wiring.
Usually the electrical wiring will come out under a panel and tie into a J-box. I was just showing you visually how you can transition... makes most sense to have a J-box or Bell box mounted under the array (or onto the rail) rather than running wiring out the end of the rail. The system is designed to allow everything to be concealed.

I would expect that a large gap would allow airflow to help cool the roof (mine is brown alum) and the panels.
What percent of the array purchase ends up being the mounting system vs. panels themselves?
