It was Wintys vids that sold me on the Chung Hwa. Knew I wanted a Taiwanese tub. Wanted one just like his. Got one. Great boat. Nice to see his boat again.
Hey Captain Joe - great video! You were lucky to have such great weather for your last cruise of 2020. I enjoyed your commentary on how you felt different being "the captain" instead of a crewmember on your friend's boat. I felt the same way in the Navy. Even as XO it wasn't anything like being in command. Remember the old quote: ‘Only a seaman realizes to what great extent an entire ship reflects the personality and ability of one individual, her Commanding Officer. To a landsman this is not understandable and sometimes it is even difficult for us to understand. But it is so! A ship at sea is a distinct world in herself and in consideration of the protracted and distant operations of fleet units the Navy must place great power, responsibility and trust in the hands of those leaders chosen for command. In each ship there is one man who, in the hour of emergency or peril at sea, can turn to no other man. There is one who ultimately is responsible for the safe navigation, engineering performance, accurate gunfire, and morale of his ship. He is the Commanding Officer. He is the ship. This is the most difficult and demanding assignment in the Navy. There is not an instant during his tour as Commanding Officer that he can escape the grasp of command responsibility. His privileges in view of his obligations are almost ludicrously small; nevertheless Command is the spur that has given the Navy its great leaders. It is a duty that most richly deserves the highest, time-honored title of the seafaring world … 'CAPTAIN.' - Joseph Conrad Best wishes for a great 2021!
Thanks so much for watching and for the sage words! It’s so true. Everything is different. And the feeling of accomplishment from a successful mission (voyage in this case) is impossible to replicate!
Great quote Karl. Some of us in the Air Force had a command position (fighters) after pilot training all be it smaller. A lot to put on a 24 year old but we grew up fast. Same as when I went from copilot to airline captain and the lives of the 150 people sitting behind me. We all settled in though. Can relate to young Capt Joe.
Very well done! We have a CHB 43 in Washington State and love her as well. The trusty Lehman and you will become good friends on these longer voyages I'm sure.
Thanks for watching! Johnny (the other half of our TH-cam and Instagram) has a CHB 34! We both have rock solid Lehman’s and love the heck out of them. Simple, reliable and durable
Man this was awesome!!! I just saw the Tiny House episode with you giving a tour of Tho Toko. What an awesome vessel! Very nice trip!!! BTW what's up with that Midland Texas cap???
This was a fun video to watch. I can't imagine how nice this would be, esp during this particular time in life. I was wondering about docking the boat when you get to your destination. How do you know where to dock, and if something is preplanned, then how do you know where it is. I have to say though, the music was great, enjoyed it, but it doesn't work too well when you're explaining something, it drowns out what you are saying. Hope you have more content soon. 👍
It depends where you go! The best way to learn is by talking with other boaters ahead of time but most cruising destinations have pretty widely available guides online and in print. Around Southern California its a pretty good mix of first come, first serve docking and reserve-able places. Hope this helps!
What a nice cruise Captain! How does a young man like you afford such a nice trawler? Whatever you do you must do it well. Always good to take a cruise for a couple of days/nights to truly enjoy a boat like yours.
@@crown_city_trawlers What happens when you are reassigned to a new ship/base? We in the Air Force had new assignments every two-three years. Great vid!
Hi Joe, after watching the video on Tiny Homes I looked up your TH-cam channel and enjoyed this very much and hope you both do more. You got me thinking about what it could be like to live on a boat and I was wondering if the slip fees would be too cost prohibitive? Have you found this lifestyle less expensive or about the same as say an apartment or a small land home? Good luck with this new channel on TH-cam, you're almost at 100 subscribers. I hope for you both that there will be many more subscribers in the future.
Thanks for watching! We’ll be putting out more content soon! Doing our best with the limitations we have at the moment. As for cost... it all depends. Johnny and I each bought our boats for under $40k and our baseline monthly fees for docking/marina services/routine maintenance/etc is between $1000-1200. We’re both using the boats to cruise a lot and making upgrades all the time so it’s not exactly cheaper than San Diego rent costs but if we put our projects on hold and just lived on the boat, though, it would be comparable. Also have to factor in loan payments if you can’t or prefer not to purchase the boat outright! All things considered, we think it’s worth it-can’t put a price tag on happiness ;)
@@crown_city_trawlers I personally would love to see some how to do and maintenance videos. Wow, 40K is a bargain. I live on the east coast in Florida and upon looking at similar year trawlers the cheapest so far I found is 89K! Prices for everything in Florida have gone through the roof but the pay wages are decades behind the times. Ugh, the price we pay for living in the sunshine state. It's scary to venture into such a life change when a person does not know the least thing about owning or living on a boat and does not know anyone who does. Perhaps you both could share your experiences in future videos. I do own a travel trailer for the last 1.5 years and have found that in the school of RVing you get the test first and the lesson afterwards. I suspect the same is probably true for owning a boat as well. But as you stated you can't put a price tag on happiness and I completely agree with you. ;)
@@mattr6358 we’re definitely going to dive into more of the history and how-to of first time boat ownership. There are lots of hurdles and speed bumps but with good research and persistence it’s totally doable! We both really got lucky with the boats we found and the prices we paid-sometimes it’s a personal thing more than financial and we both have great relationships with the previous owners who help us out a lot!
Nice video. Only big thing is on video editing, you need to get better with the volume of the music. When you're talking, depending where the microphone is, the talking volume goes up and down as you move the camera. But, the background music shouldn't be so dominating (too high of volume) that you fade in and out to a point where I can't hear what you are saying over the music. Frustrating for the viewer. Otherwise, nice video.
thanks for the feedback--definitely noticed that as I was editing. Still learning the best ways to alter music and natural audio! Can be tough when the camera is trying to tune out background noise like the engine while we're talking
That looked like a nice smooth trip Captain! I enjoyed the video.
Thanks 👍
i really want to try buying a ed monk from the 80's. love your lifestyle..
I came here from watching small boat adventures, great stuff and ill be watching from begining till present, take care all,

I do have a bow thruster but it’s pretty underpowered. It can tidy up an ugly approach but can’t save you from a bad situation

Thanks for the sub!
Hey skipper, beautiful trawler. How is she powered, best cruising speed and average fuel consumption at that speed?
I had those questions too.
Single Ford Lehman 120! Usually plan on burning about 2 gal per hour and 6 kts. Usually the fuel burn is actually a bit less though
Sometimes I’ll make 7 kts though!
Yup, Lehman 120! Following the owners manual with 1800 (fish) RPMs I usually burn under 2 gal per hour and cruise around 6.5-7 kts
Wonder if this guy is still doing this
Yes indeed! Working on more footage. Much more active on Instagram too but hoping to put out more videos soon!
Sure are! New vid coming next week!
When will we see more videos?

get ride of background music when talking as it is louder than you , and makes it real to hear what you are saying.like a lot of movies now a days
