hello Engr. what is an annual rate? and how it is related to the life of an asset.. kasi sa straight line, pag sinabing an asset has to be fully depreciated in 5 years, then the annual rate is 20%... a bit straightforward. pero bakit sa declining may annual rate pa, then nag mention pa ng life in years.... so how are they related?
Well, yung straight line method is the simplest and as you said most straight forward method of depreciation kaya ito ay mas prefered ng mga maliliit na companies. Pero yung declining balance method ay isang technique ng mga accountants para mas malaki yung depreciation cost sa mga unang taon at paliit pagdating sa dulo. Mas mabilis magdepreciate mas mabilis lumiit yung value ng asset, mas maliit ang tax. Yung annual rate ay nakadepende sa discretion ng company at yung economic life ay nakadepende sa quality at technology nung product.

Hello INZ, yung double declining is mas mabilis yung depreciation rate sa mga ealry periods kumpara sa declining balance. yun ang difference! yung depreciation rate sa double declining is 200%/n
