The problem is most people who download your free book won’t read it. It’s mainly book hoarders. So you might get hundreds of downloads during a free promotion, but you make no money from it, free sales don’t count toward your actual Amazon ranking, and you get no reviews. So afterward it’s basically like it never happened. If someone is really interested in your book, they’ll buy it.
I tend to agree, I've downloaded books for free myself and not read them. It could be that items for free seem to be possibly without worth. On the other hand I am on Kindle Unlimited with my book Climbing the Glass Mountain which is free for Kindle Unlimited subscribers, I'm waiting for the results. At the very least it might mean more exposure.
I believe the free downloads do count as sales. So it's a good boost. A percentage will review your book, and reviews are necessary for sales. If you want that Best Seller sticker, you'll need reviews. I can't think of a better way to get reviews. It doesn't cost you anything to run a free promotion.
@@thedvguy Downloads of your book during a free promotion only contribute to your books ranking in the “free downloads category”, which is different from the actual real Amazon category for your book. So you might reach the top 100 books sold during your free promotion, but it’s not the real top 100 Amazon books sold. It’s the top free download list, which again is completely different from the real Amazon sales ranking. None of your free promotion “sales” contribute to your actual sales ranking, only your “free downloads” sales ranking, which no one cares about or pays any attention to..
@@thedvguy There is no certainty that any “percentage” will review your book. In fact, statistically most people who get a free download don’t ever actually read or review your book. And you can’t think of a better way to get reviews? Sure it doesn’t cost you anything, but no one who gets your book during a free promotion actually takes the time to leave a review. Best seller sticker? I mean, come on. If you have to run a free promotion to get people to download your book, you will never reach best seller status. Your book should sell itself if it is worthy of being a bestseller.
This is very important! I have one such review on my little books about a FREE DOWNLOAD and the review is lovely. This is why we do KDP SELECT. Now before I was giving it away for free, I tried to do the bargain buying option, but that didn't work, so my husband told me to just give it away! He said, "The most important thing is for people to have the book and see it, you're not a big publisher so just do that!" He was so right and I tell all the people I know who are trying to market their books to do this. Sometimes I don't get many downloads and sometimes I get a LOT of downloads, I guess someone picks up the book on some site somewhere and then it goes wild. I recommend this video to all those who publish books. Great job here!
Thank you for answering I was definitely looking to see if doing an opening day free would get you to the best sellers list. Should I do it just for the first day
To what extent we can promote our journal or KDP book in the back of the book? For example including a link or code to direct potential customers to Amazon or our social media.
How would I add the Amazon URL while filling out the book promotion website form, if my book wouldn't be launched yet? For these book promo websites, does my book already have to be launched so that you can provide the amazon link? But that doesn't make sense because a lot of book promo websites require you to schedule 2 weeks ahead of time.
On another video where you talk about promoting your book on facebook and give away a free copy in return for a review, you said they couldn't be enrolled in KDP select. So should the facebook promotion be done before enrolling in KDP select ?
Will I be compliant by asking my colleagues (in my tech company) to check out my book and leave reviews (honest ones). Or is it a violation of policy which can get me banned?
@@DaneMcBeth Oh got it. But, it is ok for me to just inform them that I have published a book and they can get it from this Amazon link, right? Even if they are from my own company.
Don't pay for a promotion. It's horrible. I just got one negative review. It felt really evil like someone took my money and laughed. You know before I spent it I was going to look up to see if he own the company at all and was making money off me. Idk.
Which company did you pay for your book promotion? And yes it's highly likely that if you see a video on here, promoting one site over another, that the promoter has an ownership interest. You JUST received the bad review, so hang in there. If it is on KDP, it'll drop off after a while. However, no matter what, do not respond to the reviewer negatively. You need to keep your "author reputation" impeccable.
Wow! You just explain how several book publishing companies that charge you large amounts of money to guarantee you will to be an international bestseller. They basically just follow your game plan for $75... holy crap. And they coach you a little, outsource editing, they're making thousands of dollars a profit off of unsuspecting.😢 I don't mind the tactic to get some extra Kindle book sales but if you're an international bestseller don't you have to actually sell some books not just give them away??? The seal on the front of your book... International bestseller of giving away free books. 😅

Great video... I am missing a few links in my post-launch strategy and this helped. You have great hair, btw...
You want to do the Free Booksy part first to ensure they will have the date available that your book is free.
Good catch.
Can i use this website to promote my coloring / activity books or my notebooks ?
Very nice and clearly described. Thanks for posting this great information!

Love your Videos. Congrats on your success.! Please turn down your intro music its overwhelming on my end.

What’s the review rate like from the free promo?
Do you need to have the kindle ebook version released for this? I have a coloring book, Im not sure if an ebook even makes sense.

Where's your Facebook group you always say it's in the notes. And how do I share this?
I want to thank you for making the distinction. I stopped watching when you said I had to subscribe to KDP. I SAID FREE!!!!!
How do we give away free copies for reviews if you're on KDP select outside of those free promotion days
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
Released a book " I scape death a billion times in my death" for almost a month now, not even a single sale😟
Hello Adam,
There are strategies to use if you want to make sales.
1. Create Attractive Graphics
2. Support Your Book With Compelling Reviews
3. Paid promotions (like Amazon ads for books)

I wondered that too? Maybe do we just add our manuscript instead?
Thank you so much Dane
Thank you for the information.
Do you recommend putting the book on KDP Unlimited or Use the Free Book Promotion?
You keep saying "People will download your book". So I'm assuming this is only for eBooks?
Yes
On another video where you talk about promoting your book on facebook and give away a free copy in return for a review, you said they couldn't be enrolled in KDP select. So should the facebook promotion be done before enrolling in KDP select ?
Goodstuff!
Subbed!
Have you used KDP Free Book Promotions before? If so, how did it go? 📚👇🏼
Still waiting to get into the facebook group
Yes, got lots of free buys but still no reviews after 3 weeks.
Thanks dane for the info
It's the free Booksy free to use
So can you do both? Can you set your ebook on Kindle Unlimited AND have the free book promotion at the same time?
Yes you can do both at the same time.
Thank you ❤
Will I be compliant by asking my colleagues (in my tech company) to check out my book and leave reviews (honest ones). Or is it a violation of policy which can get me banned?
You cannot ask people for reviews, but you can promote the free book to them and hopefully in return they decide to leave a review for you 👍🏼
