I loved this episode. I think Scott had lost Jean by this point, so his only love is the Job. Note carefully he only calls Iceman by his codename or Drake, while Xavier and Hank call him Bobby. Also Wolverine is a great contrast to Scott in a different way. The "glad we cleared that up" line is just that: a soldier doing this job he has no personal stakes in. Contrast this with Wolverine and Cyclops' reactions earlier with someone like Sabretooth ("C'mon they're gonna kill him" "GOOD") and in both scenarios the characters respond differently, but for personal reasons. This series was the best X-Men we'll ever get.

As I revisit this show as an adult, I am 100% on Cyclops' side. I have dealt with my share of people like Ice Man, in school and work. I always hated how they are repeatedly enabled because they are charming and/or ridiculously talented. Seeing him get zapped in this scene is satisfying.
It would be more believable if we hadn't seen numerous instances of Cyclops riding people for not following his lead 100% at all times. If I were Bobby, I would get sick of his bossy ass attitude too.
Sometimes I feel if someone doesn’t agree with cyclops, he will just optic blast them, because I think iceman has the decision to stay with the x-men or leave, it’s his decision, but the professor just wanted to help him, I know he wanted to live a normal life as a human, but he just needed to accept that he’s not human, he’s a mutant, and the professor wants him to master his powers and use them to help people, save the world, and live in a world where humans and mutants come together and coexist peacefully, all of the hate needs to stop, not all mutants are evil, and also I would always take wolverine over cyclops any day, because he was one of my favorite x-men, along with Deadpool and Cable, and wolverine has decades of experience as a soldier and a hero, he’s one of the most powerful x-men and characters in the marvel universe, and I think he’d be a way better leader too

Bobby (who was a young first year student at the mansion) overheard there conversation and stowed away on the Blackbird. This is the only X-Men episode of any modern series that I know of that showed Xavier and the original five X-Men in battle (other than an episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends which featured a 10-15 second flashback of Bobby becoming the fifth member of the original team).
It was one of the first cartoons to use layered shading which made all the characters pop off the screen and look like they jumped right off ta comic page.
I still remember the animation at 2:40 all these years later. Looks close to a live comic book. I dont know why it popped into my head now as I was eating tostadas but I was trying to see if anything special about that scene.

With his claws and the rules against bloody animation and death back then, he couldn't really. He does get his shots and beats some people down, but in Season 1 and part of Season 2 they tried DESPERATELy to put Cyclops over Wolverine. Didn't work. The MAIN reason is the rules concerning cartoon violence in the 90's, though.

The whole idea that there were former members was a retcon made by this episode. For example, the episode shows a recorded video of the old team (original comic team, except Angel) fighting Magneto. But in Magneto's first episode no one had ever seen him before, except Xavier. Angel had already been introduced and established as not having been a member, and the Magneto change was bad enough.

Such a great episode in an otherwise directionless final season. It was a great way to introduce X-force also. REally profiled Scotts leadership and the function of the xmen as a team.

Wolverine wasn't exactly the nicest person when he first joined the X-Men and that was towards his teammates.
