You put far more care and effort into just making the bike movable than it saw in the original "repair job". Shame you got caught in the middle of this mess. You handled this like a real gentleman. Delboy's Garage is truly a class act. Blessings to you and Penny always.❤👍👍
Thanks buddy👍, i feel for the guy who owns it, he's paying for a bike he cannot use, and all because someone, somewhere took a lazy short cut that went bad on his watch... we'll get it worked out and back on the road for sure. ! Always appreciate your kind support buddy.. take care and stay safe, !
I didn’t see anything that screamed poor machining, it did look like they’ve had a ton of miles on them, dirty, worn, tarnished and corroded yes, poor machining no
Del, I realize that this is way off topic, but I place great value in your opinion so I am asking...I wear hearing aids (what can I say, without them I am as deaf as a post). I don't wear them when I am riding as I am concerned that I might loose them as I put the helmet on or take it off, and the damn things are expensive. I want to play music as I ride and don't wan't to put some sort of stereo on the bike. My options are: Buy a blue tooth helmet with built in speakers in the helmet, or get hearing aids with a blue tooth feature and wear hearing aids as I ride and listen to music through the hearing aids. What would you do?
Hi David. Personally i never listen to music on the bike, either from speakers or in my lid.. im happy with the sounds of the bike and traffic.. but if i did, and was in your position, you mention that hearings aids are expensive, and that you can lose them like you do an ear plug when taking your lid off.. then i presume you could do the same with a blue tooth hearing aid im sure..!! so the safest option would, i imagine, be a blue tooth system in your helmet !? A buddy of mine has one by Scorpion, has built in intercom, phone etc.. and he listens to music.. i think it cost about £300 !! Not bad money for any half decent mainstream helmet price.! Hope that helps.!
I wonder how many fine steeds languish their time such as this, an enforced ornament, dust sheeted in cold regret & 'Waiting for parts'? An old friend had a Guzzi 1000 Convert in his 'spares' shed for years, belonging to one of his Dutch students, it had spat rather expensive chunks from it's gearbag, laddo couldn't afford a fix & had gone home 'to get more money' . . . I bet it's still there, if 'there' is actually still there . . . (I really should visit more often) Have a great week down there in the land of clotted cream & a 'resting' Harley 'Belt-Job' : )xx
When people want to fight, you can't take the fight away from them. Del, you did the right thing for your client. But in my opinion from now on he should be under time limit, a lift is not a place for storage, and a garage is not a place for storage either. You should not stay in a place where people want to fight, it's their fight not yours. Hope it works out for you as well as possible😢
Wise words well said mate, but both sides need an impartial mediator, and someone they can trust to do the actual work, im not involved other then to strip and present the bike for inspection by a third party examiner, which has now happened, and they will thrash out what happens next.. im happy to store it for now, within reason, and once they're all decided im sure ill get instructed on what to do next..! Fingers crossed the poor guy can get his bike back on the road asap.!
Great video brother ! Hopefully the bike is back on the road soon, but I agreed with you on keeping moving since you have been very patient 🤙 onto the next project brother !!! Keep up the great work brother stay safe guys cheers from New York !!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the update Del. Im not going to comment on the situation. Not my place. But on a personal level you've been very professional. Best of wishes to you and Penny and my regards to the owner. ✌️❤️🤗
Thanks buddy, it's making progress and moving forward, so thankfully his wait shouldn't be too much longer! Take care, good to hear from you as always, D&Px
Tip: Take copious notes and zip tie them to the bike about where this project was left off with all those parts loosely put back together and not torqued to spec, it may be asking for some missed steps in process 6 mos down the road when u finally get to complete it. Great video on so many levels, this is the kinda thing people don’t realize can jam up a small shop. When two clients pull this kinda holding pattern at once it can really slow down everything else for quick projects.
Wise words Joe, thanks for that mate.. i have taken many photos and made notes, Also if the bike should go to another person to be done then i will make sure i speak with them personally before they start the job.. and you're right, it just jams everything up and slows life down .... but i can move on now and leave this to run it's course..!
It's a shame that this happened, you getting stuck in the middle, especially. I know that the pulleys are completely trashed, and I am sure that you gave what I'm about to say a thought, but before your video showing the terrible state of the pulley teeth, my first thought was "I wonder did the transmission lock up while moving and strip those teeth off the belt." They're both spinning along at the same speed, but if there was some trouble in the gear box and it suddenly was travelling at a different speed than the road wheel, something's gonna give.... Like I said, the pulley revelation gave a much likelier scenario, but I still wonder how free the gears are spinning. But like I said, this is just me thinking, meanwhile you are there wrenching and you didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday. I hope it all works out for you, and especially the owner... Poor guy!
Hi Tommy, That's a good scenario that makes sense, but thankfully the motor runs normally and the gears can be selected without any undue noises.. if i get to finish it, i will be dumping the trans oil for a quick look just in case.. but it's far more likely down to the pulleys given the state of them.. Thanks for your input mate, it's much appreciated.
Maybe put some thought into where this situation could head. Just make sure your covered from any blow back. This vid and the previous ones will go along way to covering it, but I always go on the cautious side. Thanks for the update on the bike.
sh1t happens! Adventures are what make trips Great! I'm missing riding new roads in Spain!! Leaning the bike with all that kit on! Just thinking about it all, makes me smile.! You two be safe!
Very frustrating Del, but you know sometimes jobs go that way. Hope they get it sorted soon, whichever way it goes. Have a great great week and stay safe. Cheers
2 Months of a stalemate on a warranty? That is ridiculous it doesn't take that long to settle an issue with a warranty company. The owner needs to get otn eh phone and keep on them. Typically here its a 2 week maybe 3 and that's a hard maybe to get it all settled.
Unfortunately it's not a straightforward situation mate, but I am not at liberty to get too deeply involved in it, trust me, the owner is doing everything he can to keep communication going.
Seems the best thing to do under the circumstances, regardless it was fun to see it go back together! Wonder what you need the lift for!? Cheers for a good week!
Maybe charging (or simply threatening to charge) for storage might kick the concerned parties into a resolution 🤷♂️ Either way, I hope you’re not piggy in the middle for too much longer.
Hi del thats a bummer getting caught up is this ,hope it works out for owner and yourself nothing worse than starting a job and not being able to see it through.
It is frustrating for sure, feels so alien putting a bike back together with the old parts... but it's not the first time once situations get acrimonious between owners and dealers..! It'll get resolved in time im sure.. Thanks for watching as always mate !
Top notch videography as always, and I dare say for an unknown situation and a temporary period of time, you put the bike back together with more care and attention to detail than most of the other "restoration" videos I've seen on TH-cam. It *always* goes wrong with machines that become literal basket cases, when all the grief could have been avoided by a general reassembly of components. How many horror stories have we all seen with a parked up bike where an owner took out a spark plug and then left it for years, eh?
Absolutely right mate, it is a major cause of bikes ending up derelict when they just get lef in pieces, anything can get lost, plus I have dust and other contaminants in the garage constantly and an open engine doesn't mix well with that! Thanks as always for your kind support.
Hiya Penny and Del, another triumph of video content! It makes perfect sense to me that you're putting this project on the back burner while the customer and the dealer hash it out... as you said, you're not running a storage facility! Props to you for the care you took putting everything back together. Take care, dear friends. Be well and ride safe!
Thanks mate, if I'm lucky then I'll be getting the job of finally rebuilding it back for the road, and I want it easy to re-open and re-assemble, so took a little extra care just in case! Take care and thanks for your support as always, D&Px
That’s a shame but stuff happens, right, Del? BTW, any bike owner lucky enough to have you working on his bike is lucky indeed! Hope you both are feeling well. Take care! 🏍👍🏍
Del, I hope you're charging a storage fee to the owner. After all he brought in to your shop with his warranty problem tying up a lift......Good luck, Good video
Not at all mate, thankfully it has had a good effect because it needed to be stripped to inspect the front pulley and the sheer state of it was enough to impress the inspector enough for him to recommend that it should have been replaced and that the dealer was wrong in this case... so once they all sort themselves out, it should hopefully go in the owner's favour.
You put far more care and effort into just making the bike movable than it saw in the original "repair job". Shame you got caught in the middle of this mess. You handled this like a real gentleman. Delboy's Garage is truly a class act. Blessings to you and Penny always.❤👍👍

F me: I've seen tractor parts that were prettier and better machined.
I didn’t see anything that screamed poor machining, it did look like they’ve had a ton of miles on them, dirty, worn, tarnished and corroded yes, poor machining no
That's such a lame cliche mate lol! there are plenty of Japanese bikes that have plenty to be ashamed of once you crack them open..!
Stereotyping as per whenever Harleys are involved. Its a miracle so many do the huge mileages they do 😅
I’m ashamed owning a Honda but all I could afford !!! 😂
To be fair I think it’s more about function than form for the components

'Time to Step Back!!' For a moment there Del I thought you'd taken on an apprentice and you were taking a back seat! 😳 😂
I’m pretty sure who I’d like to do the work!!

I guess the worst of this is really that the owner bought a bike... and doesn't HAVE a bike.
Very much so, and is paying a monthly finance payment for the privilege..!!

Nothing is nothing wrong with putting it back together loosely, making sure all parts are in their right place, boxes can be easily knocked
totally agree mate

Thanks for the update on the bike.
Thank you for the wise words mate, very much appreciated. !
Warranty issues, that's boring. Better move the bike out of the way. As you said: The lift is a working space. All the best, Günter/Nürnberg
Great video Del. Difficult situation but I hope to see the EG completed and back on the road.
You and me both, thanks mate!
the pans and shovels weren't that much of a pain in the ass to service....🤔🤔
Agreed,, so much simpler !
This entire thing sounds like a typical Harley dealership- “You want WHAT under warranty?”
They always seem reluctant to perform warranty work.
Sadly i can't disagree there, dreadful treatment from some of them.. but not all.
Bet the owner is pulling his or her hair out. Must be frustrating for them and you of course Del . 😎👍🏍
Yeah, kind of resigned to it by now.. but it is making progress and will be fixed..!
sh1t happens!
Adventures are what make trips Great!
I'm missing riding new roads in Spain!! Leaning the bike with all that kit on!
Just thinking about it all, makes me smile.!

Sounds like a great adventure mate!
Very frustrating Del, but you know sometimes jobs go that way. Hope they get it sorted soon, whichever way it goes. Have a great great week and stay safe. Cheers
Cheers mate, we always appreciate your kind comments, it's always great to hear from you... enjoy your weekend too, D&Px
Good luck 👍 mate.
Hope you're charging a storage fee..🙏🏻

Yeah I would want to get involved with that. Sounds like the owner is getting the runaround. @@Moonfleet41
Wow, they must’ve really pissed you off. You were using an impact first time ever seen you use impacts lol
Seems the best thing to do under the circumstances, regardless it was fun to see it go back together! Wonder what you need the lift for!? Cheers for a good week!
Thanks buddy, onward and upward, some jobs are just a bit more complicated !
It must be frustrating 😢😢😢😢
Yeah, it is a little. !
Hope the issue gets resolved soon. Wonder what you have planned for Friday. Have a great week.
What’s the bike under cover????? 🥸
It's a Racing Grom !
Del ,harley don’t like looking after there customers, why i would never have another one 🤬
I agree there.. but this bike was purchased used from an independent dealer, not a main agent !
Maybe charging (or simply threatening to charge) for storage might kick the concerned parties into a resolution 🤷♂️ Either way, I hope you’re not piggy in the middle for too much longer.
Thanks mate.. it's all in hand and making progress..
Hi del thats a bummer getting caught up is this ,hope it works out for owner and yourself nothing worse than starting a job and not being able to see it through.
Totally agree mate, fingers crossed for us both..!
A very profesional attitude Del but also I bet you're frustrated. Hope you time is covered🤞
It is frustrating for sure, feels so alien putting a bike back together with the old parts... but it's not the first time once situations get acrimonious between owners and dealers..! It'll get resolved in time im sure.. Thanks for watching as always mate !
Unfortunate situation to be in for you and your customer Del I hope that it turns out well
Thanks buddy, fingers crossed!
How long did it take you to reverse the process??
Didn't time it mate, just got on with the process, it doesn't take long when you're just dry assembling it.!
Top notch videography as always, and I dare say for an unknown situation and a temporary period of time, you put the bike back together with more care and attention to detail than most of the other "restoration" videos I've seen on TH-cam. What a shame, lovely bike, hope it gets resolved. That’s a lot of wear showing on those pulleys.
Isn't it just mate.. it is a lovely bike and deserves to be treated better..!
That’s a shame but stuff happens, right, Del? BTW, any bike owner lucky enough to have you working on his bike is lucky indeed! Hope you both are feeling well. Take care! 🏍👍🏍
Thanks so much Gary, it's all in hand and making progress, so im sure it'll have a happy outcome..! Take care both of you too !

Del, I hope you're charging a storage fee to the owner. After all he brought in to your shop with his warranty problem tying up a lift......Good luck, Good video
Yes for sure, It's all in hand and will be fairly handled mate..I'm only bothered the poor guy still doesn't have his bike back, that's my focus !
All that work for nothing, how rather annoying 😡 hope it gets sorted soon.
