Everything in French is either designated masculine or feminine by the prefixes of le (masculine, pronounced luh or if its spelled les then it is pronounced like lay and is also masculine but it is used to show the plural form of le) or la (feminine, pronounced lah) the only variation would be if the word following le, les or la begins with a vowel, then it changes pronunciation and is usually written with L' instead of la or le.
