To all those who came before and worked hard in Butte through the generations...so we could stand proud in Far Americay. Here's to you, brothers, dad, grandfather, and great-grandfather!
Thanks Jeanette - My dad, his grandmother, mother, sister and brother also moved to California from Butte in the 1920's...Blessings to you for all of theirs to us...
My great uncle left eastern Mayo for Butte , to work the Anaconda copper mine. His name was Johnny Cannon. He lived long enough to have a family, but not long enough to see them grow up.
Morning Thomas - My family came from Clare & Cork to Butte and San Francisco - They gave me everything and were, like yours, beautiful and amazing humans...My dad was John Francis Hayes...
Michael, My Grannie's uncle- Johnny Cannon worked the Anaconda copper mine in Butte, then migrated to San Francisco where he ran a bar. One of his grand-son's was Fr. Jim O'Brien, a Jesuit priest who worked with the Native-Americans here in Az. We knew him quite well, though we didn't know he was related until much later. He and I happened to be visiting the Cannon family back in Mayo. Come to find out he was a 2nd cousin of my father's. It's a small world. All the best Mike.
Deanna Madra, I probably am related to Liam and Pat Cannon in Castlebar. My Granny was Mary-Anne Cannon from a village between kiltimagh and Castlebar. Her father was Tommy Cannon married to Bridget Gallagher. Bridget was an aunt to Mammie, Jimmy, Tommy, and Vera. Vera ran a pub in kiltimagh called "Fordes", as Tommy was married to Lil Forde. Tommy Cannon had two brothers that went to Butte in the early 1900's. They were Johnny and Martin. Martin moved back to Mayo while Johnny stayed in Butte. He married a Catherine O'Dponnell. They had a couple of kids who grew up in San Francisco. As a kid of 20 I lived in Mayo. I recall seeing a Cannons bar in Castlebar. I should have stopped in to find out the family connections. I am related to an Aine Cannon who was an Irish scholar and who was friends with Charles Haughey of Castlebar. I was also related to three Dominican nuns who passes away years ago. (Rip). Give my regards to Liam and Pat as I am sure they are relations. Slainte.
Hello, Thanks Solas for this wonderful video. We were at the Barns at Wolftrap concert last February and totally enjoyed your performance. And thanks for uploading this on my 60th Birthday! As a descendent of Irish Immigrants, I appreciate the message in your song.
Sure, but that wasn't what they were there for. The Shamrock City album is a memorial to the (mainly) Irish immigrants who lived, worked & died in dreadful conditions in the Butte mines. Whatever, get to one of their live performances, very moving without being overdone. We had a wonderful evening at the debut, Celtic Connections, Jan 2013.

Butte..iful😁
Is that the Berkeley Pit?
Think they were going for gritty, not pretty on the locale. Good contrast for a pretty, melancholy song. I like the sound - simple and honest.
I´m sure the singer likes Sandy Denny a lot!
I know that but I still maintain that there are nicer locations.
Lovely song but there are far nicer views in Butte
A ridiculous comment! This was NOT a promo for the Butte Dept. of Tourism
