    We love our pillow top mattress. It was far more comfortable compared to the non-pillow top variant. We haven't had any dipping as of yet and we're two years in. But with the warranty we can get a brand new one when it happens.
    Though I appreciate this review, it's more it CAN happen than a it WILL happen. If you go for a cheap pillow top mattress, then you can probably expect it to dip much quicker compared to a higher end one. I've had normal mattresses my whole life and they've always dipped at some point. Even the hybrid simba pro which is rated as a top mattress on most comparison sites also have many reviews which say it dips quite quickly. So, don't let this review put you off getting a pillow top if you're looking for one, because in reality, all mattress are prone to dipping..

      Hi Nozz, Thanks for your comment. The issue here is that with a two sided mattress you can turn it to even out the wear, whereas with a pillowtop or Hybrid foam single sided mattress like the Simba you can only use one side. So unless you're only paying half the price or don't mind having a far shorter mattress lifespan you may want to consider a 2 sided mattress instead. Sleep well. John & Ryan

    Wow! Very honest review! I was considering a pillow top mattress. Had one before, but sunk in the middle. Now, I change my mind. I will definitely go after a two sided mattress. Thanks a million.

      Patsy, I had a pillowtop mattress that was totally reversible, as it had the pillowtop layer on both sides. Do not buy one that has the pillowtop on only one side. But with it on boih sides, you rotate it every 6 to 9 months, and it will last you 3x as long as a one-sided junker.

    I've always used a traditional then had a duvet under the bed sheet which I rotate with the matress. Works fine

    Thank you for this. I saw a pillowtop mattress in John Lewis and thought i would love a mattress like this looks comfortable. I never thought about the dipping or sagging after use i never even considered that. Next time i shop for a bed i think i'll opt for a traditional mattress i like a firm mattress. Question: Can you get matresses that you can fit a pillowtop onto separately? 2nd Question: I also saw a Hypnos mattress in the same John Lewis store again i thought that must be so luxurious to sleep on. What is the difference between a Hypnos mattress and another mattress made by a different manufacturer? Thank you.

    Wish I had read your review before buying a pillow top mattress.
    Can you remove the pillow top and add a removable mattress topper at home easily?

    • @JohnRyanbyDesignLtdWythenshawe
      @JohnRyanbyDesignLtdWythenshawe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately not. Most times the pillow top is permanently adhered to the mattress. We have seen upholsterers remove the pillowtop but it usually exposes the internal fibres so a new cover needs sewing on. More trouble than its worth. If you have a pillowtop just make sure you rotate your mattress religiously each month to minimise settlement issues. Hope that helps. John & Ryan

      There is NOTHING wrong with pillowtop mattresses, believe you me. Just make sure that the mattress is FULLY REVERSIBLE and that IT HAS PILLOWTOP LAYERS ON BOTH SIDES. The ones who do not, just don't buy them. Also, do not rotate yout mattress every 30 days, as it is suggested here by someone. Rotating the thing every 6 to 9 months is wholly sufficient.

    Some of this may be true. On the other hand, I purchased a pillowtop mattress (Queen size) in Atlanta, Goergia, USA in 1994. It was pillowtop. AND it was totally reversible, as the external pillowto layer was sewed-on on both sides. So, it was a flippable pillotwop mattress, with pillowtop layers on both sides. So it is not entirely true by John Ryan that pillowtop mattrasses cannot be turned over. Mine could. Maybe in the U.K. they only sell the type that cannot be turned over?

      Hi Frank, Yes we've seen the two sided pillow top beds you talk about back in the 90's/ Sadly they are few and far between now with the pillowtop trend favouring one side only. Probably to save costs. Thanks for adding some extra experience to our guide though. Much appreciated! Sleep tight. John & Ryan

    Thank you for this video, this alone has stopped me from falling into the marketing ploy by these companies. I will certainly now be buying a turnable mattress which I thought was old hat !!!

      Thanks Darren for the comment. It’s funny how marketing can get into your subconscious. When it comes to mattresses a two sided ‘old hat’ approach will provide far many more years comfort and service! Sleep well. John & Ryan.

      They still make double sided pillow top mattresses , if you find the right company.
      All we build is double sided Mattresses. They last longer , if the customer will flip it and rotate it once in a while

    • @frankfarago2825
      @frankfarago2825 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lesthomasson7220 Exactly. The pillowtop mattress I had purchased 29 years ago in the States was a reversible pillowtop, as it had the sewed-on pillowtop layers affixed on both sides. Maybe this video should be retitled as to "Wyh you should only buy reversible pillotop mattresses."

    Does this include "box top"?

    • @JohnRyanbyDesignLtdWythenshawe
      @JohnRyanbyDesignLtdWythenshawe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a box top mattress is another word for a pillowtop. Sometimes they are not adhered but 9/10 times they are glued or stitched onto the mattress. John & Ryan

    Thank you saved me from wasting my money, pillow tops looks and seem great but they're not.

    • @frankfarago2825
      @frankfarago2825 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are the best, I wouldn'"t get anything else. Make sure that the model you pick has the pillowtop layer attached to both sides of the mattress. Mine does. So it is totally reversible. Don't fall for every naughty urban legend.
