I hope that the ‘you tube’ generation really appreciates how fortunate it is to see legends like this show how it’s done. 40 years ago when I was learning the drums we had to listen to LPs over and over to try to figure this stuff out.
Thats why they are so snowfkake and spoiled, they have all the table served and warm.

I'm one of those from the TH-cam generation you refer to. Carmine is obviously a legend and has nearly endless knowledge and insight for us to benefit from for years to come. But I disagree with the idea that this is "how it's done". That implies there aren't currently legends walking among us who stand on the shoulders of guys like carmine. Taking nothing away from the man, or any other icon from his time, the art form has evolved so much and drummers from the "TH-cam generation" have plenty to offer as well.

Carmine is the pioneer of big fat rock drumming. The guy invented it ! He was the very first drummer to play like that, and therefor he deserves a lot of respect. Living drum legend.
I drove Carmine from the Airport to the Drumeo Studio, what a great guy! He had the best career stories!!! A true Rock Legend!

I really admire how Carmine has adapted through the years, going through psychedelic rock into his heavier playing now. I think its something all drummers can learn from; and what a great guy too!

He's a Legend indeed. One of the best in hard rock. His drumming has influence many drummers even if they don't realize it.
all new to me, only 9 mos. drumming, started in Oct. Pick up the sticks almost every day, play at the New Britain, Ct. Senior center along side the
Real drummer. Starting on all levels, reading music, playing my new piccolo snare, my tom and my cowbell. This lesson is very advanced for me, but I try to understand it. I go to the Guitar Center in Southington, Ct. where I can go in a room with the complete drum set and do a little practice. I was a math teacher. Good lesson. What is a lick? Love Drummeo. Realistic Rock was the 1st drum set book I worked through and man I felt like a champion after getting through it. I'm still inspired by his creativity and ability to teach which really is a gift most don't have.

Carmine is a true drumming legend, an icon, a pioneer. I remember, back in 1977 when I was 16, I heard him play for the first time on Rod Stewart's Foot Loose & Fancy Free album. One particular song really sent shivers down my spine (and still does), it's the intro of You Keep Me Hangin' On... I was totally mesmerized, never heard anybody play drums like that. Carmine's monumental sound, his fat, lazy, big rock solid groove is just so cool. Nobody can play like that, as far as I know. John Bonham came close, but Carmine was the inventor of this style of playing. The fact that, after almost 50 years, this guy is still going strong and kicking ass is truly awesome.
We all have to realize ..wether John Bonham would have admitted it or not ..this man was a massive influence on him ..Yes John took it to another level ... but Carmine Appice deserves much respect !!!

This is the guy that taught me how to play the drums... Realistic Rock! One of the best books out there.
Back in the summer of 1988, I bought Realistic Rock with the floppy LPs. At the time I hadn't a clue about how to play drums. Thanks to his book, I was able to figure out tons. Man those were some great memories sweating my buns off in my garage in Oklahoma. He's a legend.

Underrated drummer. He may seem to 'talk it up' a bit in various interviews, but I feel he offers a unique perspective both in terms of his sound and approach, and of the times in which he came to prominence as a player. His genuine ability and humility in offering up various techniques is to be respected.

+Rohan Ford He's not underrated. He was a star in the late 60's, 70's, 80's..not so much afterward but he's still respected and worth over $200 million so don't feel too bad for him.

After the studying the George Stone book for snare drum to get my hands together, my teacher started me on the Realistic Rock book for drumset. This was back in the early 80s. It was the copy with Carmine behind his big maple Ludwig kit on the front cover. Realistic Rock is a MUST for every new player starting out.
When I was 16, a friend of mine gave me Carmine Appice Rock Drum Clinic. I wore it out. Love his tone and skills. Go Carmine

Carmine Appice is an rock drumming innovator, and a masterdrummer. I still have my 1967 copy of the Vanilla Fudge album with songs like "Ticket to ride" and "People get ready", and on TH-cam you can find videos of these songs. Watch them, and see how a master musician/drummer performs, it is breathtaking. Great to see him with Drumeo!
I just got off a comment section from one of his videos ,it was Zeppelin ,Black dog ,it was a bar band and Carmine came on to play the song with them and the band sped right out of the gate and completely went off time and they sounded bad 99 percent of the comment section put down Carmine and blamed him for the lacklustre performance ,most of the comments were down right nasty. I usually do not get ticked off so easy but ,man they crucified him whenever it was obviously the speedy and crappyish B level bands fault. 99 percent of them are wrong .I am absolutely right.
Great lesson. Respect for Mr Appice. He has a great and passive way to explain that finally, I'm able to understand linear grooves.

i love carmin!....realistic rock was the first instructional book I bought! He's always been an inspiration. I recently had the pleasure of attending his clinic, what a great guy!!
I love Carmine and Vinnie..they are great drummers and examples of how drumming keeps a person in shape and with a young inspirational outlook on life..drumming is very under-rated. More people should do it.

Same thing with his brother Vinny Appice. I got to say, I like Vinny more than Carmine because he just appeals as a better drummer to me and style of music that I play so of course I look up to him as a drummer more than I do Carmine. Don't get me wrong though, Carmine is definitely a great drummer and brought change to the drumming world but like I said, Vinny just appeals to me more because of the music style.
He was , in his prime, one of the greatest rock drummers. Innovative and tasty drummer.

I first bought a kit in 1979 after being infatuated with drums and percussion since I was knee high to a grasshopper. Marching bands like the Black Watch……..yeah. I played for for 15 years and then stopped due to no space. You Tube with the Masters of Drumming, like Vinnie, Steve Gadd, and Dave face off drew me right back in. Thank you You Tube!
How appropriate your CD is called, “The Spirit of ‘67!” I was born in 1967! Stellar double-bass set-up. I started taking lessons on drums back in 1982 through 1986. One of the books I was taught from was Realistic Rock! I lost my original copy of the book, but about 3-4 years ago, I bought one with accompanying CD’s.

Wow. This is how good music pedagogy is applied. I would be a lucky person to have him has a teacher. I started studying his book as well when I was 9 years old with a teacher in Germany.

Such an awesome drummer, love the color and set up of this DDrum kit. I’ve absolutely love this lesson and I have been working at these grooves and getting better. Started off painfully slow and started building it up and starting to get somewhere it it now. Love Drumeo, you guys seriously rock!!!!
I had the realistic rock book when I was first learning way back in 1986. It had little plastic type 45 records inside it you could play along too. Thanks Carmine for being one of my first teachers. 🥁🤘
Love this lesson. Carmine has been an influence on my own playing from a long time ago. Love the idea of the VF Spirit of 67 album. Of course, I was born that year as well.

This man came to my high school (August martin) during the 80's (for Ludwig promotion for HS/Collegiate band contracts). Gave a few of us a lesson in power strokes and basic displacement. Great guy.

Was listening as early as 1968 to Vanilla Fudge. Took some time to figure your playing Carmine. And I combined it with my own along with Peter Edward Baker (Ginger Baker). Got together with others, and called our band N. W. S. Didn't last long, but was the first for me. Holy cow, other bands followed, other musicians came and went. Just a jumble of musicians. As a realist, I took a job as a laborer, did many other things, but towards retirement, got back into drumming before arthritis stopped me at 62. Then arthritis got me. Well, there you stop and just say OK. Time to teach young folks. So now I do that. Still love the drumming and will untill my final breath.

I play drums in Madison midddle school band in Abilene Texas and my mom introduced me to Carmine Appice"s awesome drumming and I really like how he plays. I hope I can learn to one day play drums as good as or close to Mr. Appice. Sincerely, Ruger Brown
What's really cool about Carmine is that he keeps up to date on new techniques.
this is the best lesson for an overall drummer playing various genres. the Same pattern with two kicks is metal. or else is rock and gospel chops. what a legend .
Watching and listening to Carmine was like a trip in memory lane for me. He speaks a language that I understand very well. I still has the first edition of his book. And use it with my students. What a great drummer and person he is. To address Martin B. Yes the drums sounded a little off according with today standards. Remember that he comes from another era. We used to tune our gear a little different. There were different times.
Carmine always makes sense of things and makes it fun and easy to understand
