We retired from Syracuse almost 20 years ago, and I miss it every day. The people, the weather (yes, I love snow), the beauty of changing seasons, great medical facilities and doctors, the BEST-tasting water, Columbus Bakery, Dinosaur BBQ, Twin Trees Pizza, Mario's headlights, and on and on. I shoveled a lot of snow when we lived there, but I think it made me strong enough to face the challenges of old age. Syracuse, you have my heart.
Everyone looks at me like I'm nuts because I ALWAYS say we have the BEST TASTING WATER EVERRR! 💦💧 So, thanks for making me feel less strange today and sending a little love to our city! ♥️
Thanks for sharing. I sold my home in Las Vegas and bought 23 acres in Clay. I am really looking forward to a different way of living and the nature. I will have to find these places you mentioned.
I grew up in Syracuse. Couldn't wait to get out. Left at 21. Back, tail between my legs, at 29. Inherited a house. Got married. No kids. Got divorced. I still want to leave, but that's not happening any time soon. I have some good friends here. It's safe. It's quiet. It's stable. That's why I'm still here despite the weather, the lack of a subway system or any super-useful public transportation, economic growth, or future prospects for economic growth.
Can't get CA. hubby to move to my hometown. Miss the wonderful 4 seasons, Heids coneys, the lakes, trails, waterfalls, Sat. farmers market, the State Fair, Columbus bakery, Italian & German restaurants... so many attributes- Here I sit in 100+ heat waiting for next forest fire to fill the Sacramento Valley with smoke. But, love him- going on 45 years!
We live in Kentucky (I'm from here), my husband is from England. We're strongly considering moving to the New England area or up that way where the snow and change in seasons is. I used to live in Massachusetts, so I've seen some snowstorms. He really hasn't :D
I used to live in Syracuse and now live near Allentown Pa. I miss Syracuse and the snow and wish I could move back. They know how to plow the snow in the winter which they don't here. They have to close schools everytime there's a snowstorm. There's a lot of things to do in CNY and the people are great. I think the cold builds character. I don't like the real hot weather either.
Syracuse and the surrounding areas have some of the most beautiful autumn seasons. The bad areas are really, really bad, but the good areas are really, really nice especially as one goes further north. The cost of living is still very good despite the greedy investors. Save for the criminals, the people are much kinder than people in NYC & Long Island & less superficial.
I grew up east of Syracuse in the 70’s and 80’s. I spent a lot of time in Syracuse due to family and there was nothing to do in Cazenovia. I’ve been away out of state since 93. I miss the snow and having real winters. When it is 60 degrees at Christmas, it’s depressing. Plus, I can’t look forward to spring. I also miss the cloudy, rainy days. 300 days of sunshine per year wears me down!
I came home after living in Minneapolis for 15 years and Los Angeles for 15 years. I finally appreciate it now that I'm older but I would clean up downtown and recruit some business and get rid of National Grid. Property taxes are obnoxious
Syracuse is the best. I don't think I'd be able to shovel snow and ice as well as I used to. Love the cold. Love wool socks. The right layers and snow tires with a stick-shift and you are good to go. Jesus bless y'all.
I moved away 32 years ago I still call it home.... I'd move back in heartbeat! If I could I could handle the winters if I didn't have to go to work in it Good place to retire, plenty to do in CNY Florida not so much beach gets old! and the heat and the Hurricanes get old as well very old....😐
I have lived in Syracuse all my 45 years of life within the next year or so I will be moving to Florida because my girlfriend's body is broken down I cannot take the cold weather kind of sucks I never want to move but it is time to go
I left the Syracuse area in 1998 and have never looked back. Because of the high taxes and the corruption in Syracuse and Albany as well as NYC. The Coumo family has destroyed a beautiful state. I feel sorry for those that are stuck there.
That reminds me of why I left Syracuse. I would like to go back for a visit during the Spring / Fall. I remember doing my annual training in the NYARNG at Fort Drum in Watertown. We were sleeping out in the field under the stars and it got down to below 50F at night? I don't think Watertown ever gets truly warm.
I live in Alexandria Bay NY. And have lived in Saranac Lake. And always ask myself why???? Lol but I love the prettiness and the different seasons. 🤷🏻♀️
These young people have no idea what a severe winter is in Syracuse. 4-5 inches of snow is nothing compared to the winters of old in the 1960s thru the early 2000s. The last really bad winter was in 2010-2011 when the snow fall was over 200 inches.
There is only one reason people don’t leave Syracuse. They can’t afford to do so. They are stuck. It used to be a wonderful city- now it’s guaranteed poverty.
yes the weather is crappy but you never have to worry about natural disasters hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes the 3 months of good weather it’s beautiful in central ny even better up north
@@joeyaragon4073 "Wrong again?" Are you stalking me or something? When did I say something you didn't agree with before? Syracuse looks miserable btw....
Spot on! I grew up there and I go visit from time to time. The people in central New York are real. I’ve been away out of state since 93 and every time I come visit, it’s refreshing. The trendiness and everyone putting on a persona garbage gets tiring.
Totally agree. Everyone misses the point that Syracuse and the powers to be are more worried about bringing back an old 70s or 80s band to play at the venue around the dirtiest lake in the country rather than the 1000 +++ good paying jobs they let disappear.
Oh yeah, it's great here! My rent is going up $400 a month in January, gas is expensive, food is expensive, my income taxes have gone way up, my car insurance just went up $40 a month because of my address. Half of downtown is shuttered storefronts, aggressive panhandlers everywhere, I watched two people OD and die last year, I see zombies with their pants around their ankles barely able to hold up their panhandling signs every day. Who wouldn't love it here?

Damned straight. You don't know what life is about until you wake up at 6am and go straight outside to shovel the driveway.
Awww! Now I want to move there. ☂️

I lived in Syracuse for 7 wonderful years & enjoyed every moment of it. I still miss Syracuse.

*Because I’m not able to move yet.*

As a die hard New Yorker I can't live without snow!!

Lived outside Albany for years.
I miss the change of seasons.
Even the snow.

"I don't like too much snow" *lives in the snowiest city in the US*

Because if everyone moves to the "perfect" place, then that place becomes less "perfect"
I'm a Long Islander (Yes, we are New Yorkers too!) I give you Upstate people credit. I hate snow, and we have a lot less than you folks down here.
Sorry the property taxes , and NIMO drove me far away
also idiots like Shummer
I just love snow 🌨
Me too!! I wanna go back..❄️🌨️❄️
I lived there for 10 years, mountain bikes everywhere

Even tho new York can suck sometimes but we still love it
this is my hometown...but I have been away almost 30 years....
For those speaking on crime, I think that crime is bad everywhere. It don’t matter where you go.
I like the snow, but hate bad roads. But I would never live in expensive NY.
I have NO idea why!
I lived in Syracuse but then moved to Rustchester

Compared to Syracuse, NY City gets very little snow.

You have my sympathies. Get back on MEDS👀
It's a cesspool....get out while you can. Syracuse is just a complete mess. Gross...
They all live in Florida now!
When the welfare projects rolled in, all the sensible people moved out. The crime rate in Syracuse is absolutely shocking.
Crime is everywhere. That's just a given.
@@hellojuneau8917 Yep, it’s everywhere but it isn’t equivalent. That’s a straw man argument and it ignores the reality that crime is high in Syracuse.
Because nobody's coming here. Even the government is too lazy for snow.
Syracuse is one of two cities in the USA that had population growth.
Can't complain, no one will listen
I left syracuse i 69. Probably a big mistake.
we are not close to the Adirondacks .. 6 hrs away ... not Close
Tyhler Novac uh... 1 hour, nice try tho

I escaped to TEXAS in 1978>>>> Never looked back
Looking back now? CHILL OUT. I’m just joking. Oh wait, too soon? :-D
Stop complaining, i dont see you in syr reall getting much snow, thats just a little flurry anyway,( signed a guy in watertown. )

it sucks to live here but there so much things to do
Shut up & pay your outrageous taxes. I left and headed south in 1970. Never looked back and don't miss it 👀😜🤣.
Basically because they just don't know any better.
I was born in saris
Most of them have no jobs or enough money to move
