    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can simply take it in at the side seams if it’s too large. It’s it’s too small you may need to add in side panels x

    I have a few questions!
    1) do you pull the fabric completely taught while actually shirring or is it a semi pull with a little slack?
    2) is it ok to use lightweight cotton instead of viscose?
    3) is it possibile to make this without an overlock? If yes, do I just straight stich or would a zigzag be better?
    4) can this be made into a normal top instead of a dress?
    I'm a beginner and have sewn many things not many clothes and don't have an overlock. Any answer would be amazing. ❤

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I pull the fabric taught when shirring and yes you can use a cotton or linen. Any woven fabric would be good for this. If you don’t have an overlocker I would use a zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine because it needs to stretch. To make this into a normal top you simply just need to make the rectangle how ever long you want the top to be and have the shirring lines go from the top to the bottom ❤️

    For the top piece don’t you mean bust size instead of hip size?

  • @tiyakeira972
    @tiyakeira972 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When I put my shirring thread in the bobbin, it just wouldn't smoothly come out of the bobbin case, even though I loosened the screw. Do you have any advice?

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s meant to be quite tight when you put in the bobbin case, you’ll need to pull it. It never comes out smoothly when I put elastic thread in the bobbin. I think that’s normal x

  • @JacquelinePeacock-g4s

    Hi, if you have the top piece of fabric (hips) 105cm + seam allowance of 1.5 cm each side = 108cm x 1.5 = 162cm, then have the skirt in two pieces (1/2 hips) 52.5cm + seam allowance of 1.5cm each side = 55.5cm x2 108 cm it doesnt match the length of the shirred section, so how do you attach them both without tucking the shirred section on itself, and the skirt section would be tight around the hips if it simply the circumference of the hips plus seam allowance. Am I being daft here?

    • @alexist.5598
      @alexist.5598 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely give yourself extra inches for hips etc. I always have a hard time with this as well.

  • @SparkyOne549
    @SparkyOne549 ปีที่แล้ว

    What tension settings did you change?

  • @sarahc6300
    @sarahc6300 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi might sound thick, but size hip I get +2 but x1.5 so say 50 inch hip would mean a length of 125?

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No at all! So you would do 50 + 2 = 52 x 1.5 = 75. So your rectangle should be 75 inches wide. If you’re short on fabric you can divide this number in half and cut out two pieces and join them together to be 75 inches wide in total ❤️

  • @miriamlusser7862

    I am from Europa, how do you calculate the measurements there, what does 2" means and x 1,5?

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi 2” means 2 inches. If it says x 1.5 that means to multiply the number by 1.5, so you’ll need to calculate your own measurements. ❤️

    • @Tammy.Handmade

    Could you have sewed the dress and bodice into circles AND then pinned and sewed to each other in a circle? Just curious because i feel that way would be easier for me and i want a very full and poofy skirt part

  • @gaynormainwaring1853
    @gaynormainwaring1853 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don’t understand why you had to make the bodice separate from the skirt. Couldn’t you just start with a longer piece of fabric and just shirr the top section?

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  ปีที่แล้ว

      You definitely could do this method also! I have another more recent video showing exactly that method! The thumbnail is a pink shirred dress xx

    • @alexist.5598
      @alexist.5598 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you showed two sections because every video I've seen shows a rectangle and then shirring on the top which gives you a tight fitting skirt and I was looking for a big poofy skirt. If I made my dress bigger my bodice would be too big but it I made it smaller it wouldn't fit around hips. I think making the bodice and then adding to a skirt with a lot of extra material should help me make a poofy dress
