- Ruth Ellis' life was a story of maltreatment, betrayal, and a flawed legal system: a mother, lover, and woman who had become victimized by circumstance. Ruth did not tread a path of evil malice to the gallows but was carved out of years of physical and emotional abuse dealt out by her lover, David Blakely. It would be a crime, a sad, impulsive, desperate act that a little later would fire up a national debate about the death penalty and women's rights in the UK.
This video "Ruth Ellis Britain’s Final Female Hanging looks at the stormy relationship Ruth had with Blakely, the court case that condemned her to death, and what this says about British society in general. Was Ruth a murderer or the victim of a system that had let her down?
From her first arrest through to her execution, hear the story of Ruth Ellis, the woman whose execution catalyzed changes and begged many questions as to justice, mercy, and the complex realities of human relationships. Her story resonates with judgment today since it is often rarely that simple.

Why all this poetical twaddle? It was such a tragic case simply demeaned by all this crap? I think there are enough executions in America without having an American narrate this. Tasteless and shoddy.
Hello B,thank you for sharing your thoughts. Ruth Ellis' tragic case sparked significant public protests at the time. Her execution became a pivotal moment in British history, contributing to the eventual abolition of the death penalty in the UK. While opinions vary, revisiting her story helps shed light on the societal and legal flaws of the time, as well as the public outcry that followed. Her case was the last time a woman was hanged in Britain, marking the beginning of the end for capital punishment here, tnx for watch'
Ruth Ellis was madly in love with a man who was very abusive to her, even though she tried many times to leave him. I believe she should have gotten at least 10 years. Rip beautiful Ruth😢😢
