Revealing clothes? That is not my point. They are supposed to represent our culture by wearing our cultural attire but they did not and that is what I find disappointing. Have a look at the videos from other cultures represented at this event. They all seem to represent themselves accurately. In recent times Somalis have become too conservative which is worrying, ditching our ancient culture and adopting foreign ones as evident in this video.
I agree that our traditonal clothing is hidiyo dhaqan/ guntiino. I am very familiar with what it is and I don't like the dirac myself (it's from Arabs anyway). They could still wear hidiyo dhaqan whilst dressing conservatively i.e. by having a long-sleeved top underneath and wearing a hijab on top. They are dressing more conservatively year after year but that's because it's different students taking part every time. Some of the previous students were not hijab-wearers so would have no problem wearing the guntiino as it was traditionally worn (without anything underneath and without a hijab). What I am saying is the students at the university put a lot of effort into showcasing our culture in this positive way. It's a shame to criticise someone who's doing good because they may not feel comfortable wearing more revealing clothes (as they are more religious/ for whatever reason). They must choose what they feel most comfortable in, just as the girls from previous years did...

The original commenter mentioned dressing conservatively and wearing the niqab, then saying that it's the covering up that is 'worrying'. I was letting fdama know that you can showcase your culture whilst dressing what they consider 'conservatively'. The issue isn't how much skin they show here, rather the clothes that they are showcasing. Either way though, the dirac is more loose and these girls may then prefer it because of that.
