She is focusing on what helps her mental health so she can focus on family and rest as needed. Good choice, i hope she lives a happy life!

    Undiagnosed ADHD. Being too overwhelmed by so much in life makes me unable to do chores so I chose minimalism as a way to overcome the struggles of managing ‘stuff’. I’m so much happier down this path

    • @nesmei7005
      @nesmei7005 หลายเดือนก่อน +109

      My first thought was undiagnosed ADHD as well..
      While i respect the intent, i can't go for minimalism myself anyway though, i feel worse in empty places like i cannot breathe 😬 and noise echoes louder so i end up feeling sick in places that are empty....
      (I cleaned a corridor just recently and it echoes so loudly i tiptoe through everytime and flinch if someone else walks through--autism so noise is extra loud 🫠 i cannot wait to put stuff back on the doors and a rug and swallow up the noise 😅)
      (that and i have too many hobbies and side work stuff that requires supplies... so it's not really practical 😅 but i do a similar thing with wardrobe, having only easy-to-matching clothes, just with beige pink and burgandy colours lol )

      I have adhd too and I had this exact same thought. I'm obsessed with avoiding clutter, because the less stuff I have then the less I have to tidy/clean. I want things to be as low-maintenance as possible.

    • @Kknah91
      @Kknah91 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

      ADHD also, and I thought that too. I’m glad she’s found a way to make her life more manageable, because I’m not sure if they are able to treat with meds over there or not 🤔

    • @nesmei7005
      @nesmei7005 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Kknah91 funnily enough i plan to move to japan so i have researched that.
      For adults, getting meds is SUPER difficult. Most docs stop giving meds once you turn 18.......
      Also any of the methyl-something meds are straight up banned so adderal is impossible. Foreigners can still bring in Ritalin if they have a script and doctors letter and declare it (so that's what i'm on), but local doctors in japan IF they treat adhd will ONLY give non-stimulant meds...
      However i will say, the way the homes are designed, the way life is organised in japan, personally i found it easier to live there than in australia. Japan stuff is more practical, close together, easily accessible, good healthy food is cheap and often cheaper than cooking at home so ... i have lived in japan before and it was easier for me there.
      But mental health stuff is really... not well known. Living there i instantly became the go-to person for my japanese friends to ask about anxiety disorders and depression coz other than knowing the words exist most people don't really know too much about any of that stuff (which is also ironic, considering they have movies and shows that actually do try to go into it--Freeter Buys a House looks at depression, one GTO season has an ADHD kid who wants to be understood but struggles with impulsivity and in his case a temper problem due to ppl not listening etc).
      I rambled sorry 😅

It became daily practice and when I got my own house I was able to maintain a clean environment (most of the time) but I also struggled with letting go of things a little which I had to work on and convince myself that it is making me miserable when I don't have to be, if something holds sentimental value I take a picture of it and write about it in my diary and keep its memory while I get rid of the actual object. If it's solething I think I might need later, I keep it for a few months and I never remember it exists for so long I throw it out knowing that I can easily purchase a new one if needed.. these are some examples that might help you

      There was a viral post (on Instagram) recently that explained how our minimalist/maximalist/hoarding choices are inversely influenced by our childhood homes. For example, minimalists are likely to have grown up with maximalist or hoarder parents so as a result they minimalize to get a sense of control over their environment. Hoarders grew up moving houses quite a lot and were never able to keep cherished belongings. It’s quite fascinating.

    They should also look into the psychological effects on what led to it like if schools help those with learning disabilities or is bullied. I know that is not always the case because it depends on a person’s social life like if they are introverts, ambivert, and extroverts. There’s also those that prefer low human interactions not due to only because social anxiety but because they have no feel for it like how some animals are solitary animals and prefer that way.

    Supect you are putting a few words in her mouth. Yet for some, minimalist is their comfort zone. As long as the rest of family is also happy with maintaining a clutter free homefront, hurray for them. Personally l am bad about books. Riding busses and ferries, use that time to eat up small books. I may buy by the bag, keep very few by giving up two to keep the one new. Reference books aside. The bag of togos end up at tiny libuaries, shelters and occasionally the used book store for trade. This woman is doing what's right for her. Everyone should find the way to have more sleep time. My only criticism is that Hannah should have a small box of colorful scarves of mixed sizes. There are days when a pop of color is just the thing to cheer up a rainy or blue day.

    So she became a "housewife", because she was just too lazy to work? And cleared out the home, even the fridge, because she could not be bothered to lift a finger? Sounds like the rest of the family really got lucky, with a mom, that wont invest anything, but the bare minimum of effort...

      You might want to watch videos on how Japanese families present their meals. Each of those dishes are used every mealtime per person. If they have fish, vege, soup and rice, that meant 4 separate dishes used per person. Times with the number of family members, if 4 people, then 16 dishes to wash each mealtime. They don't use only one plate per person every mealtime. So her bare minimum laziness is actually still quite diligent than certain cultures outside Japan.

      @@lynncomel seriously, youre telling me that? Im chinese. I buy my own raw meat, vegetables, garnish, etc. Cook them. 2 times a day. Wash 100 plates per day. So cut the crap about 16 plates. You dont wanna know how else my other chores are.
