Believe it or not, I've had 3 weimies over the past 20 years and they were/are the most laid back dogs who just want to be touching me at ALL TIMES!! They are definitely 'shadow' dogs. I adore this breed! I've been fortunate enough to rescue all of them and have been rewarded with incredibly special fur babies!
@@DorkVader26 So true! They can outwit you if you're not on your toes! My first two were females but I currently have a little boy (well, not really little...90 lbs) and he can be bossy! If I don't jump to quick enough with his food, he lets me know about it! Lol He can be very stubborn so, like you said, I have to get firm and remind him I'm his alpha. But, generally, he is incredibly sweet and absolutely loves to be with his family. And, he's quite the snuggler!
BS. I've had 2 Weims, and they were the best dogs I've ever owned. Full time job for both me & wife, and they weren't destructive, bored, etc..It's all in how you raise your dogs. Most dogs take on the personalities of their owners.
@james crowe Jim, that's why some people shouldn't share their lives with dogs. They think it's just an add on to go with their kids, but they don't have a clue on how to raise them, let alone their kids! That's why I prefer dogs over children!
Haha. I have a gorgeous weim-GSP (both high activity dogs) and we don't walk everyday. We never run. Fetch until laying down and panting works great. LOL at crating for 3 hrs. He is crated 9.5 hrs a day while we work FT jobs
My weimaraner just passed away on October 1st, 2018. 21 days before his 14th birthday. And all I can say is that he was the best dog I ever had. So, everything in this video seems true from my perspective. If you're looking for a breed, this is the one.
Mine passed away on October 13th, 2018. Her birthday was a month and a day later. (Nov 14th) and she was going to turn 14 too. Wiemaraners are wonderful dogs.
BRO HOLY SHIT YOU SURPRISED ME! You came with that Weimaraner Video a few months ago and I thought that was it but you just made my day with this video of Weims! They are the best! Thanks man
After working in a doggie day care with several full bred Weims, I can share my take on their personality. They are bred to have intense separation anxiety. When left for short periods away from others dogs or owners weims so nuts. Some have injured themselves in a manic state when put in any type of isolation. They are extremely smart dogs, but have a knack for being too smart for their own good. They are a common breed to let out other dogs from play rooms and figure out ways to get what they want. They are extremely loving and loyal pups. Despite being pretty crazy when it comes to isolation, Weims are beautiful and excellent family dogs. If someone wants a working dog like a weim or vizula, etc. they need to understand that they have HIGH energy levels and absolutely need ways to work out that energy or they absolutely will become bored and destructive. Overall the breed is quirky, extremely loyal, and very loving.
i have one that is a complet nut case. sounds like murder even if u just step out for 5 sec to have a smoke he needs to be there with you. i try and make use of the time and kick the ball for him to grab and bring back seems to run some of his energy out. nicest dog tho ive ever seen not a mean bone in his body witch is funny cuz everyone who sees him are terrified as hes half pincher and looks very much so at 120 pounds.
All the things that "you're saying" are the exact same ones that I saw on a website, stop trying to pretend something you're not, you're just copy pasting whatever you see online.
I don't have a full bred, he's a rescue so I think he's a mix of weim and heeler or some other cattle dog. When I take him out to train him I will leave him alone in the back of the truck for hours or more at a time or in a warm kennel with hay and I also have a bed cover and toys because he's still a pup. However he usually wants to sleep with me if possible. I work him at least 3-4hrs a day, if not work its playing with him. He sleeps the entire time I kennel him. I think it is because he is comfortable and very very tired. Never had any problems with seperation anxiety or barking, chewing, or mania. If I ever do experience these issues is there any way to appease him? I also do not keep him alone when he's at home, he will be with my German Shepard border collie mix and my brothers corgi but he they will be alone for hours while I work and honestly I wouldn't know
It's true. Our Weimaraner is 6 months old now and he has a huge separtion anxiety, we are working on that a lot and it s hard but beside that problem he is such a smart pup!!!! Everyone who buys them needs to know that they will be with you all the time, but If you love them that sholdn't be a problem 😁
I'm on my 5th weim..... all hunters. Rebecca has hit every nail on the head with this breed. I've had German shorthaired pointers, labs, etc. and by far the weim is the best overall. CAUTION: this breed is HYPER! Everything she says about their energy level is dead on. Love my boys.... and they will do anything to please me. You MUST secure YOUR place as the dominate one though. Once that dominance is set, these dogs will do anything you want them to with excellence. Best breed ever.... period.
Weims are great dogs and happy, when enough exercise is given. I lost my boy 2 years ago at the age of 13. I miss him dearly. He never suffered from separation anxiety at all, and was just the sweetest boy. Never did like the mailman though...lol Most of all, weims will give you many years of laughter and love
Wow, i guess I got extremely lucky. Mine has never destroyed anything while outside alone. She has her area, and never digs. She has never attempted to get out of the yard. She spends 6-8 hours alone while we are at work. All other things explained in this video are spot on. I dont think i can ever own another breed of dog. Weims are the greatest dogs.
These are such high energy dogs and you need to be able to exercise them for hours everyday, which is why IMO they shouldn’t be sold in pet stores. Uneducated people will see a cute little silver Weimaraner puppy, and adopt it, not knowing how much time and effort they will need to put into the dog. And later on, the dog will be too hyper to handle, and will eventually end up in a shelter.
My weim is usually chill. He's pretty hyper yes, but I take him out back and play with him when that happens. Most of the day he justs rests on the couch.
I’ve seen usually as my Weim got a little older and started to put on a little weight she became more interested in relaxation and an occasional long walk.
i have a 5 m/o weimaraner and he is the chillest puppy i’ve ever seen. he’s not toy driven and typically doesn’t play fetch. he loves his sticks but that’s about it
Yes they do, you have to be active and have time.We take turns going on long runs with our weimaraners and at the end they have a couple of hours in a massive open field.
I love Weimaraners my favorite breed. I had my Weimaraner since he was a puppy a for 12 years. I miss my baby very much and would seriously consider having another Weimaraner in my life
Living conditions,,a bed, blanket to start...best dogs ever....I have had 6 in my life....17,14,14...two now at 12 and and ten....I resqued a 8 yo...he is right at home in the bed under the blanket....had a hard life but now he is just all about love,me and his buddy raimn.,.... beautiful boys.,...can't say enough of how great they are....great dogs for kids.....and yes u are spot on.....
i own a weimaraner and i have had him since i was three, he is getting really old but i love him so much and he is the best dog. he can be bad sometimes but he is an amazing dog and he protects my family and it just wouldn’t feel like a family without him
I had a weimaraner that I rescued. She was by far one of the absolutely sweetest dogs I've ever owned. She was not a typical weimaraner though; while she loved chasing squirrels and rabbits, she was very gentle with my cat and loved to relax and lay about. She unfortunately died of old age. I'll never forget that wonderful girl!
When she said that weimaraners can jump a 6 to 8 foot fence I looked at my weimaraner puppy who is about 4 months old and can't jump onto a 2 foot couch😂😂
Mines a mix with a blue heeler(I think) and this dude is about the 3 months and he can jump roughly 3-4ft effortlessly, but is scared to jump in and out of the truck. Once this guy gets confidence he is going to be a menace to society
We have our Weimaraner who is an integral part of our family , he is 12 years old now and the most loving and loyal dog ever , he loves to be right next to us , always following us and will let us know when he wants something , he was so easy to train as a puppy and has never forgotten any of it , 3 walks and play each day keeps him and us fit and healthy xxx love this breed xx
My late Weim was a great search and rescue dog. He loved to work. Miss him a lot! I had a house without a yard. However, he ran with me every single morning about 6 - 12 miles. As soon as dawn came, he was up on the bed, staring down at me, telling me it was time to go running. I am an Ironman-distance triathlete and he kept me exercised. Then, he was totally laid back in the house. He could be stubborn. On the refusal to move from his space, she is right on. He would do that. He would grab a spot on the couch and, through some contortion of the space-time continuum, he would increase his mass 20 times. You weren't going to move him. 🤣 He was a good dog.
Absolutely best video I have ever seen on the weimaraner! I am 62 and started with the reiteralm goldies line. Adolph hauserman brought over the original line. As a little child I was there for all of the temperament testing on the puppies. These dogs do not tolerate stupid. I regomed 200 hundred of them. Now, they are almost extinct. They are regarded as a dog that has a human mind. That is wrong!
i have had weims since 1990. rescue, breeder and the first one from a pet store. they are awesome. my dog minnie right now was abandoned in spring hill, pregnant. she is a great dog. 5 years now. she runs every morning and almost every afternoon after work. she is really smart.
Weird my weim is the exact opposite of everything is this video except for being a shadow. She is extremely low energy and super chill. She’s about 5 years, idk how she’s like that but I love it. I get all the benefits of a loving loyal weim and no craziness lol
I believe every dog is an individual. After meeting several ( 5 or 6) Jack Russell terriers , I thought nope too stubborn and hyper....then my Little showed up needing a home. She is super chill, almost lazy in fact. I just got a Goldmaraner, and I am hoping she is just like yours! But she won't be, she will be just like herself.!
My Weimaraner Lily was one of the best dogs I ever had she was seven when she had an aneurysm and we had to put her down. Still miss her five years later
I have a Weimaraner, his name is Pluto he's insanely energetic. He has a big sister named kera and she is a husky. They"re both wonders and i love em so much.
I got my Weimaraner from the RSPCA (Willie) he took a lot of time to get him to calm down, he was fantastic with my kids and I found a new part of him when I started to take him to Archery.
Ours is great with our kids especially the baby but has become more protective since the baby. We will start greeting visitors outside now and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip!
I have one of this beautiful babes, he's a smart ass most of the time, which i love soo much XD makes me laugh and yet makes feel soo warm with his loving way of showing soo much love to us...He is worth the patience we put in him, always!! Amazing partner and a best friend!!
Just had to euthanize our 17 year old Weimaraner, Blue. This was a dog that was unexpectedly trained as a service dog when he was 7 years old and he acted like he’d been doing it since he was a young pup. He was the dog of my heart and our family was blessed to have shared our lives with him for as long as we did... 😔
If you want to feel real love get a weim...I've resqued 4 In past 20 yrs..and they are just unbelievable dogs..they are extremely intelligent and know every move u make...they are usually very happy and just want to b close to you..all my dogs sleep next to me and do things like put their paw on you so they know if you try to get up..follow u into the bathroom and sit right In front of u..peek into shower or lay there head on your chest...my baby girl Sadie made it to 17...I lost 1 to gastric dialation at 13 and one to cancer at 12...and have an 8 yo now and a looking to resque another..they are a dog that will steal your heart and make you crazy in love w them..treat them well and you will be rewarded with happyness and love...I will always have a Weimaraner or 2...they are a very special breed.....I can't say enough good things about them..they r funny, loving, protective and loyal...I love all dogs but the weim is just an amazing dog....go resque one..
Cool vid....Ive got a 5 year old weimaraner... Spud, and what a big soft sod he is, and take into account he was a rescue dog.. i got him at 7 month old with all sorts of issues, emaciated, beaten and neglected!!, all sad and i would love to see the same happen to the previous owners but i live in a normal reality. Anyways now he is a true gentleman, so loving with children, brilliant with most people and dogs, does have a bit of an issue with other dogs showing dominant aggressive behaviour towards him.... not one to back down, dogs being dogs an all, never actually hurt another though. I put it down to he has clangers still and his early issues, but usually reacts to his commands. And great way to keep him fit on top of his walks with me is i take him cycling with me. and he absolutely loves it, so do I when I don't want to pedal he does the pulling... lol, took a bit of careful training but they take to it quick being bright, i Love my best friend, issues and all and wouldn't change a thing about him. Definitely would recommend to anyone, they are a lovely, super intelligent breed and most importantly loyal.
Great informational video - thank you. We are getting a female puppy Wiemaraner in a few weeks, our first Wiem after having several Labradors. Was also interested in the Visler but there are no breeders anywhere even remotely close to me. Very much looking forward to my pup and experiencing a Wiem.
I got my mother a Weim for her birthday she loves him and he loves her he is a very laid back dog he never chewed on anything or caused her trouble. I decided to get my own because of how well behaved he was, and well that’s not always the case I found that all Weimaraners have different personalities especially my Ivy! She needs lots of exercise so I take her for a run in the morning before work and sometimes when I get home she has no interest in playing with other dogs so I have to improvise, she just wants to be next to me I call her the Velcro pup if she hasn’t had her exercise for the day she can be very needy and will cry and howl for attention. These dogs are really not for everyone they are not the same just because one weim may seem chill doesn’t mean they are all like that. So really think about it when you want one of your own. They’re great dogs with enough exercise and can be great protectors. Some just require more than others. ;) hope this helps anyone looking to get a weim.
Eventually am looking to get a new dog... was doing some research on Basenjis and the Weims. While I do enjoy a big dog, Basenjis do have their perks too (little to no dog odor is unreal, but no barking might be a deal breaker). Right now am leaning towards a Weimaraner, love their ghost coat and their demand for exercise (nothing like a good howl). I'm seeing that they may be a little tricky to train but I suppose it can be done correctly if done early and consistently. We'll see maybe ill just get a designer dog like the goldendoodle.
A S all I can say is do your research and you’ll be good weimaraners need a lot of exercise and I do like that my weim doesn’t smell even when she’s been outside I bring her inside and she does not smell like dog she also doesn’t shed much or at all she’s a great dog when she gets her exercise but if she doesn’t get it she becomes bored easily and will find ways to entertain herself ( which is not always the way we want them to) I wish you luck with your new pup and whatever you decide!
Got lucky with mine. She happened to be one of the only chilled ones of her litter. Her brother is nuts. But an awesome one lol. Helped that I knew her parents really well before they had pups. My Marilyn is like her dad. Lol. Calm and cool. Most the time (lol)
Love this! Can’t get enough of Dogumentary! But you guys need to do more small breeds! Been dying for more working or sporting small breed dogumentaries
I love my weim! He’s at my side 24/7. We go to the park for at least 1.5 hours to run and play everyday , sometimes 2x a day. He alerts me when a package is delivered at the front door, a bird(s) perching on the fence or when the neighbor cats visit our back yard. He use to dig but has learned I don’t like it. I five him bones to chew on, games to play or a big long with frozen food or treats to keep him busy between walks/ play time.
She's right about their protective traits. We have a Weim-GSP We got him at 1.5 yrs old. he was a foster dog that I adopted out, he was quirky but he was not insane like he was when they return them He came back super aggressive at the vet (still has to be sedated for nail trims and I have to vaccinate him with the syringes, LOL). He required a couple levels of obedience to accept people/strangers in his space. We foster dogs, so he runs & plays a lot. He's super skinny despite eating more than our GSD. He's great with new kids, cats, dogs. New People? Not so much (which we like about him), but he made so much progress with tolerating other people from attending GROUP obedience classes (he needed to see people and their dogs). He's always touching me. He can't sleep without having a paw or his snout on me. He has separation anxiety so he has to be crated when we leave the house. He is crated for a full work day which is 9.5 hours (not being able to crate for more than 3 or 4 hours is laughable). his personality is everything that is described in a Weimaraner and everything that is described in a German Shorthaired Pointer. I don't think I will ever have a home without one or the other BUT would love to continue to have mixed a Weim-GSP. I wonder what his parents personalities were like. It's really frustrating when people breed sketchy animals. I don't know if he is sketchy because of nature or nurture.
I can feel the hard work that you have put in bro.. and you're doing amazingly well!! Your contents are the most complete on TH-cam. When we think we need to criticise you because of something, it's simply to continue you going on the path of Perfection. Being always better. Not only me.. but all the subscribers enjoy your content bro. Keep pushing man, you're doing well.
I foster Senior Weims now, but my first one , Daisy lived to 13 1/2. I rescue because now that I’m 65, I know I can’t handle a puppy plus I do not want to die before my dog. My son said I should get a smaller dog, but once you fall in love with a Weimaraner, and their regal, yet goofy personality, no other will do.
Love it! I want a grey ghost, but I feel like with my GSP that could be double trouble. I love that she used the term k-9 citizen, more people need a better understanding what that actually means.
I'm watching this today because I've been a happy owner of one of these great dogs. My concern was the activity levels. Some times I cant fit more than 15 to a half hour a day of out door time with him. My questions were answered. I'm now ready to start making a lot more time for him, and to let his full energy go towards how he was breed to live. No longer couped up in the house
Owned Weims for 20 years. Onto my 5th (I had 4 at once, Mother and 3 pups). Fantastic dogs to own. Can be a nightmare if not trained properly (my 1st was destructive till she had her litter). My current Weim, Poppy, has been a dream dog. Well trained, well socialised with other animals and children (we have twin toddlers), and well cared for. Similar in nature to Boxers or Dobermans and other high strung breeds in terms of playfulness and energy levels, but without the high strung element of their nature.
@@Chris-nw5lk Poppy gets on with almost all animals including cats and her recall is perfect... except when she sees a deer. Even if she catches scent of one, she's off after that deer until she catches it or loses it (she always loses). No amount of recall training is getting her back once bambi is involved. Must have something to do with their big game instincts.
@@gattman1983 thanks 🥰 I did have a deer last week, about 50 feet away, until she saw me, but generally, they're out at dusk only, may be a good time to eat dinner inside. I also have a raccoon, which might me tougher than cats but if I get a puppy, maybe it would seem normal.
Starbuck was a great dog. He had amazing intelligence. So did my last girl Maggie. Maggie was a beautiful. She had the heart and soul of a saint. I took over the weimaraner rescue in the northeast under the I insistence of barb peatrangolio on a criminal abuse case under John tanis.
Ok even though I’m pretty late, here is my rant I guess. EVERY WIEM IS DIFFERENT. Please take this into consideration of course they are going to have the spurts of energy but training is relatively easy. Weimaraner’s aren’t all the same size. You really need to check and research your breeder. It took months of back ground check on the breeder who we got our wiem from. They don’t all like the same activities as well. You really need to bond with the dog before trying to do something as simple as bathe. We got ours a few months later then desired but regardless be warned that Weimaraner’s are stressful dogs. The reward is so fulfilling seeing them by your side. As for tails I know docked are very controversial. Weimaraner tails have literally broken fingers because there muscles and bones are just so powerful. Ask the breeder how they dock the tails. Don’t buy from a beginner breeder because chances are they don’t know how short they should dock. Always ask before considering to adopt. HOPE THIS HELPED
My Weimaraners name is Poseidon and he is the best dog I could ask for. He learned how to sit, lay down, shake, and wait for treat in a month. He has trouble with stay though. I can’t get up out of my chair without him getting up to come follow me 5 feet to the kitchen or bathroom. Lol
I have a 4 month old Weimaraner puppy named Apollo, he just had bowel obstruction surgery for eating a popsicle stick 😩 he got peritonitis and will be coming back home today, I hope he hold on and makes it through. He needs a muzzle outside because he is constantly swallowing rocks and other objects. If he makes it through this struggle I have to do everything I can to try to keep him safe 🥺
Scary! Pay attention to bloat, as she mentioned in the video. He will have a propensity to stomach issues now. Be careful not to change foods and feed on a schedule. Some dogs are really sick but it's hard to tell. You have to get good at recognizing illness in a stoic dog. Bloat is life threatening. Read up on it. Good luck with your pup!
I have a English Pointer / Lab mix, it totally "domesticated" the super high drive field dog they ade always talking about. Where they are like 15 hours of exercise needed a day lol. He needs a normal amount of exercise 1 hour in the yard walking around and running fetch whatever and we go on a walk everyday. Its a very awesome mix.
This woman really knows Weims! I've just inherited two of them. They are lovely but quite different from all the Boxers and Boxer Xs I've had before. One of my Weims is afraid of babies haha! The other one used to be a bit domineering about 'territory' within the house, but we're past that now. They're both trouble with strangers around the house, but completely loving with me. One is good with other dogs, one is not. They have so much energy, but thankfully they're both starting to enter their 'middle years'. They used to run about 25km per day, plus lots of swimming and could reach speeds of >40kph running along the beach.
Just put my weimaraner down after 15 years best dog ever came to work with me every day even to the pub great nose for hunting would reck my house every so often but thats just part of the fun of having one .
AMAZING DOGS never had any issues at all never chewed anything i taught him how to open doors EVERYTHING smart dogs I had one and he passed away 2017 just before his 16th birthday, Only now ready for another...took me ages to get over the first one ..loool said i would never go through loosing one again but cant seem to be without one
Ours lived 15 years and she was a good dog, didn't matter what I was doing she wanted to be in the middle of it. She wasn't the most obedient dog but she'll always be my favorite
I often take my weim out backpacking on like hikes. 22, 24, 26 mile days are nothing for her. She bounces back up the next morning and is ready to do it all over again. Amazing recharge rate. Best dogs ever.
I live on a huge beach but live in an apartment...I love getting out and doing a lot of exercise so I'm hoping this will work...dog will have unlimited space to run
Love the drive, intelligence, and protective nature of a Weimaraner! I also completely agree however if you can’t give the dog tons of exercise don’t get the breed!
Rebecca gave probably the best advice and information on the breed that I've seen on TH-cam so far...well done! I just wish the American breeders, and AKC standard, didn't have this wonderful breed doc their tails. They don't doc them in Europe, where they are from, so why on earth do us Americans think this is how the breed should look? I have a Weim as my partner, we're an explosives detection team for the Dept of Homeland Security. My partner has his tail because the Gov't purchased him from a European breeder. And thank God they did because his tail, his "happy meter", is simply wonderful. Every Weim I see with a docked tail makes me feel sad for the owner because they are missing out on something wonderful about the breed.
Mine hunts bombs, so I can't really comment on the advantages and disadvantages of the tail while hunting other animals. But they use these dogs in Europe for hunting, it's where they are from after all, and most of the videos I've seen of them over there they all have their tails. Mine was purchased by the US Gov't from Europe.
My boy wags his tail and hits all kinds of things every day and has never injured it. As I mentioned in my original comment, he's a work dog and is in all kinds of environments with lots of metal and wood "things" he smacks it on and I've never seen him injure that wonderful tail. So far I haven't seen a single Weimy come through the program with a docked tail, but we get them directly from Europe where they adhere to a far stricter set of standards than our AKC does.
My family raised this lovely dog. WE had a silver male and three females two silvers and one tope. They loved to hunt and SWIM. They lived in a kennel but at any time you could bring them in the house and they would be fine.we started raising these lovely dogs in 1954
That's amazing ❤ we have had 2 one lived until she was 9 died of wobblers and the other 10 then died of cancer. What type of food do you feed you weim??
I have been dog sitting a Weimarnar. She is awesome. Everything you said she is but not off leash yet even though her person says it's ok. I do feel she knows me after knowing her a while, especially since Scott has been out of town for two days. Next time he is in town we'll go off leash down the trails. So different from my Chi/Rat and Chihuahuas. Lol.
@@_danila5185 I quit sitting for Willow because her person was unpleasant. But she was a joy. I went with Scotts' advice and trusted her off leash. So much fun and deserved the reputation of Grey Ghost. She would be invisible in the woods very quickly. Be prepared to be worn out. Lol.
Ours was just about 16 or 17. She was incredible, loved making her own games that allowed to to play in water, and was all round an amazing girl. Lost her when i was in third grade, and im 44 now, but loved every moment we had together.
You understand this breed very well!! You totally get this! They are much more intelligent than the average human including dog trainers. Most will not attempt to train s weimaraner. I for most of my life had 2 weimaraners. My vets x7 were non pluses. I know how these dogs thinks. They were in my crib and forward. I temperament tested with one of the original breeders of the reiteralm goodies line. I had when I ran the rescue in the northeast John tanis for massive abuse on this breed put into prison.
If you wonder why there are not to many weimaraners to be replaced it is because of me. I replaced about 200! These people had no business owning a weimaraner! I selected out the last two starbuck and maggie.
First and last thing anybody should know about this dog is that it is a very active dog. Honestly it's a great animal but not so much a pet unless you live an active lifestyle. This dog NEEDS to go out and take a run or it needs a space where it can run around most of the day. I owned one about 1.5 years ago and I ended up giving her to a Weimaraner rescue that only specialized in these dogs so she can have the freedom and live I couldn't give her. Bottom line, they are really really active. If you work away from home and if you aren't making a living through strictly hunting out doors or something where this dog can tag along then you shouldn't get one. I am being honest for the Weimaraners sake
Pol Pot That's not really a fair judgement of Snootches. I have had 3 Weimies over the last 25 years. The first two were females and the one I have now is a male. They were all rescues so you don't know what, exactly, you are getting until you take them home and they settle in. All 3 of mine have been extremely laid back 'coach potatoes'. I know what she's saying in the video happens a lot with this breed but it hasn't been my experience. They absolutely DO shadow you everywhere you go but I love that. My sweet baby boy is the BIGGEST snuggler I've ever had. He either spoons or sleeps nose to nose with me. Even though I swear he has PTSD, I love him to pieces. I truly believe animals who are rescued somehow know you saved them so he gives me total, unconditional love back.
This idea that a Weim needs to run all day is because you simply didn't train them properly. A well trained dog, any breed, is a much happier and content dog. They want to know the rules, they want to follow the rules, and when they are following your rules you are happy, they are happy, and they calm down immensely. My weimaraner is no more active than any other breed I've had, but he's extremely well trained and has a very established routine in his life.
Even doing treat training for tricks indoors works well to "mentally fatigue" them. I do "find it" with my Weim and Vizsla inside the house, they use their noses and sniff out the tennis ball/toy/treat. 10 rounds and they are panting and smiling, tired and happy. Be creative, these dogs are great but you just have to spend time with them!
the idea that this dog is only suited to people that make a living through hunting or outdoor pursuits is absurd; it sounds a lot like you're making excuses for your own situation and poor ownership. i run mine for less than an hour in the morning and the same in the evening and she's absolutely fine to just lay around all day and do whatever i'm doing. an equally important thing for them is obedience / boundary training and metal stimulation. you have to consider what any dog was bred for and then find activities that kind of mimic this during their exercise.
I'm an over the road truck driver. I have a Weimaraner that rides with me and lives in the truck with me . We are gone from home for up to a month at a time. She has never tore anything up. Very protective of the truck while we are in it and especially while I am sleeping. She saved me from being broken into one night while sleeping in a rest area. When I park for the night or when I take a break I let her out always on a leash. She runs from about 15-20 minutes non-stop. She is very happy very friendly to all animals. I have owned Weimaraners since I was a little kid. I wouldn't have any other breed of dog. While I don't agree with a few things in the video. She made it sound like it would be a chore to own one when it isn't. Unless your just lazy.
I'm stopping half way through because vega is tbh better temperament for most people and I didnt click the video to be told how elite her organization is
I believe in the history of all dog breeds , especially big dogs. That are not well known, like other dogs to the public. The weirnermeraner dog breed to me is a versatile dog breed that can do that others dogs can do. Like the breed , the German Shepherd , doberman , Rottweiler , pitbull and cane Corso. In that category. They can hunt bear ,mnt lion , bobcat , deer , rabbit ,and wolf what ever the case may be. These dogs are fierce and powerful. And they loyal and protective to there family. To me this breed you don't want to sleep on , and this breed is beautiful and cunning. I want a dog like this that is a stone cold protector and guarding and more that it is train to be.. and leverage with the decievable looks that the other well known breeds has, that those individuals don't think he or can do. But surprised the intruder , unsuspectility terror.
Video summary = Quit your job, and you too can have enough time to own a Weimaraner.
I'm sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry... my Weimaraner is the first dog I ever got and she’s 9 years old. I can’t imagine losing her❤️
I had one she died 4 months ago
I’m so very sorry for your loss...I’ve been there too😔
Mine passed away on October 13th, 2018. Her birthday was a month and a day later. (Nov 14th) and she was going to turn 14 too. Wiemaraners are wonderful dogs.
Excellent video. I had a male weim for 15 yrs and now i have a female and she is 4.5 yo. Best dogs ever.
My weimeriener is 16 and we are getting a new female blue weimeriener puppy tommorow and then a male in a few weeks
They’re a fur baby that you never get over. I’m on number 7 and I still weep about number 1.
BRO HOLY SHIT YOU SURPRISED ME! You came with that Weimaraner Video a few months ago and I thought that was it but you just made my day with this video of Weims! They are the best! Thanks man
Agreed!

I've had 3 weimeraners over the span of 17 years. Two are still alive. One is 10 yrs old and the other 2 yrs young. Best fur babies ever!
Best breed ever.... period.
Thank you, so happy you have a clear understanding of this very special breed
Becca
Mine never destroyed anything ever!
I wish I had that luck if I had one. A dog that does not have separation anxiety and can be at peace in the yard for some moments.
I rescued a senior Weimaraner and she is deaf. But she is so sweet and fit right in with our other dogs. I love to watch her run, so graceful.
Ya, OMG….my weim is the absolute best. He loves the shit outta me…..just stares at me continuously…extremely loyal and I love love love him!!!
Lol
“Stares at me continuously” is a beautiful sentiment
Faxs I need help
i have a 5 m/o weimaraner and he is the chillest puppy i’ve ever seen. he’s not
toy driven and typically doesn’t play fetch. he loves his sticks but that’s about it
Yes they do, you have to be active and have time.We take turns going on long runs with our weimaraners and at the end they have a couple of hours in a massive open field.
I love Weimaraners my favorite breed. I had my Weimaraner since he was a puppy a for 12 years. I miss my baby very much and would seriously consider having another Weimaraner in my life
Great to see a documentary about weimaraners that talk about their huntingskills and need of activity!!! Thank you!!!
Same here, 😔
When she said that weimaraners can jump a 6 to 8 foot fence I looked at my weimaraner puppy who is about
4 months old and can't jump onto a 2 foot couch😂😂
I can attest to having our Bosco jump a 7 foot fence. It was insane.
Mines a mix with a blue heeler(I think) and this dude is about the 3 months and he can jump roughly 3-4ft effortlessly, but is scared to jump in and out of the truck. Once this guy gets confidence he is going to be a menace to society
Just wait!!!! Lol
How big is that pup now lol
Yup. Mine could jump a 6 foot fence if he wanted too. He's just over a year old.
This is very good information!
Great video!🐾👍
Happy New Year to you!💝
We have our Weimaraner who is an integral part of our family , he is 12 years old now and the most loving and loyal dog ever , he loves to be right next to us , always following us and will let us know when he wants something , he was so easy to train as a puppy and has never forgotten any of it , 3 walks and play each day keeps him and us fit and healthy xxx love this breed xx
We just got one . 15 weeks old. She is s attached to everyone. Very loving dog . Love her
I raise Weimaraner in Tokyo city. There is only about 300 Weimaranar in Japan. Because very rare dog in Japan.
Claire Mackinlay thank you
i have had weims since 1990. rescue, breeder and the first one from a pet store. they are awesome. my dog minnie right now was abandoned in spring hill, pregnant. she is a great dog. 5 years now. she runs every morning and almost every afternoon after work. she is really smart.
So as long as you run them they can be crated?
@@oliviabird1593 crating a large dog is cruel for a lifestyle.
Weird my weim is the exact opposite of everything is this video except for being a shadow. She is extremely low energy and super chill. She’s about 5 years, idk how she’s like that but I love it. I get all the benefits of a loving loyal weim and no craziness lol
Same
I believe every dog is an individual.
My Weim was basically a giant lazy beagle
Not all dogs are the same. But there are tendencies among a breed.
Mine is the same. If there was a gold medal for sleeping she would definitely win. But she’s a beautiful pet and we love her.
We had a weimaraner and everything you say is spot on. It has been a love story, we miss him so much.
This is an excellent documentary. Very practical and informative. Many Thanks 😊
Ours is great with our kids especially the baby but has become more protective since the baby. We will start greeting visitors outside now and see if that helps. Thanks for the tip!
I have two Weim girls, and I agree with you 100%. Great explanation for someone who is thinking about having this dog.
When you stop training a Weimaraner you then are being trained.
Good documentary clearly an expert.
Love this! Can’t get enough of Dogumentary! But you guys need to do more small breeds! Been dying for more working or sporting small breed dogumentaries
Cayla Standifird Name them. He Will maybe see the comment ;)
Thank you Dogumentary I’ve been waiting for this for a while now I uploaded a video of my Weimaraner a few days ago 😂thank you
These dogs are perfect for mountain biking no joke I have been dropped countless times by a weimaraner but they are such an amazing breed overall
Love this video but she forgot one of the most important things.. weimaraner owners MUST have a sense of humor ♡
Chelsea Johnson YES
Why do you say this?
i do have sense of humour
we have one at home he is brownish black
Agreed my Weimaraner is the biggest goof ball sometimes I can’t even handle it but she is the best thing that has ever happened to me
I’m totally getting a Weimareiner i have one Doberman and i think that he would fit perfectly with him
Daily dose of the World they are good together! Mine has a Doberman he plays with and they are great together.
Zeke thank you for this one. They are a absolutely beautiful breed!
Love their protection qualities as well!!! Very often understated!!
agreed. we didn't know about that prior but our Bruno is an excellent watch dog without being agressive or bad tempered
Great video! Have 3 now, had 4. There always great! Gotta run them! N have a big bed!! Run em! 💚

I just inherited a Daisy Weim! She a precious girl.
@@elled10024 congratulations! Hope you have a happy joyful life with Daisy! I still miss my girl!
I have a new Weimaraner puppy. Thank you so much for all the information. Great video!
Love it! I want a grey ghost, but I feel like with my GSP that could be double trouble. I love that she used the term k-9 citizen, more people need a better understanding what that actually means.
I lost my beautiful boy nov23rd 2021. If ur considering a wein please excercise they need and luv it. This breed gives they all. 🧡
they sound like thunder when they run past you
I'm watching this today because I've been a happy owner of one of these great dogs. My concern was the activity levels. Some times I cant fit more than 15 to a half hour a day of out door time with him. My questions were answered. I'm now ready to start making a lot more time for him, and to let his full energy go towards how he was breed to live. No longer couped up in the house
Loved my weim for 14yrs. Great training and Faust actively created a protective posture.
Thank you so much for this video! Very informative and helpful 😊
I will be getting my first Weimaraner in two weeks time!
I wondered about cats, is that an issue?
Lol
That’s exactly my wimerwriner 😂 😂
I have a 4 month old Weimaraner puppy named Apollo, he just had bowel obstruction surgery for eating a popsicle stick 😩 he got peritonitis and will be coming back home today, I hope he hold on and makes it through. He needs a muzzle outside because he is constantly swallowing rocks and other objects. If he makes it through this struggle I have to do everything I can to try to keep him safe 🥺
We named our boy Rocky bc his LOVE for ROCKS! 😢🤦🏼♀️
AMAZING DOGS never had any issues at all never chewed anything i taught him how to open doors EVERYTHING smart dogs
I had one and he passed away 2017 just before his 16th birthday, Only now ready for another...took me ages to get over the first one ..loool said i would never go through loosing one again but cant seem to be without one
RIP Mr. Hoover! My late aunts dog.
Make a video on the difference between a Weimaraner, German shorthaired pointer and a Vizsla please. They seem so similar in so many ways.
8654 Zulu Foxtrot i acquired my weim with his tail cropped really short like a dobbie. I wish he had it long
Thank you
Mine hunts bombs, so I can't really comment on the advantages and disadvantages of the tail while hunting other animals. But they use these dogs in Europe for hunting, it's where they are from after all, and most of the videos I've seen of them over there they all have their tails. Mine was purchased by the US Gov't from Europe.
They are better off docked I had two docked and my present one not she wags her tail that hard she regularly makes it bleed
My mum owns a Weimaraner. He’s a blue weim, and is still a pup, but she works night shifts to walk him everyday.
My family raised this lovely dog. WE had a silver male and three females two silvers and one tope. They loved to hunt and SWIM. They lived in a kennel but at any time you could bring them in the house and they would be fine.we started raising these lovely dogs in 1954
I have a weimaraner and i love her to death they are the best dog
these dogs are kept in an athletic condition, obviously this lady knows what she's talking about.
Mine is great. She is 9 yrs old. Loves the family. Sleeps with us. If something moves outside she will let you know
They’re the best cuddle bugs lol.
Love my Weim, amazing breed
Beautiful nature there!🤗🐾
Been working with them for 17 years. My dog is 17 years old lol I must be an expert
Lol.
Tomorrow I’m dog sitting my first Weimie I hope he’s gonna be easy
@@_danila5185 I quit sitting for Willow because her person was unpleasant. But she was a joy. I went with Scotts' advice and trusted her off leash. So much fun and deserved the reputation of Grey Ghost. She would be invisible in the woods very quickly. Be prepared to be worn out. Lol.
@@pipsqueak631 thank you so much for sharing your precious experience ❤️
I’ve had 2 they are nuttier than a box of frogs,I was painting the wall with emulsion and as quick as I was painting the dog was licking it off.
Beautiful! I love this channel. Thank you so much.
Seperation anxiety was a problem with the two we owned.
I let my weim on the couch anytime he wants and he has never gotten stubborn or hard to move from that spot, he is a pushover, all of them are.
Great video, awesome information from SilverBay Weimaraners. I love this breed.
Igmu Gleska thank you ❤️
The best 17.5 years of my life was spent with my Weimaraner: just get some pet insurance: some vet bills can be un pleasant...
My first ever dog breed❤️
Amazing breed!
