A lil context to the chikawa obsession: Jaiden joined a minecraft smp server(qsmp) early last year and there was a white bear character called cucorucho. She ended up getting really attached to cucorucho before she left for japan and when she saw chikawa, it reminded her of cucorucho. She ended up obsessing over him calling him cucorucho.
While I agree more people in the U.S (and a couple other countries) know who Goku is, in Japan while there is a respect for Dragon Ball's influence, One Piece is like a nation-wide obsession, there's a reason it's the #1 best selling comic in history.
Yeah but also it never stopped. One peice has been going since it started (hiatus withstanding). Dragonball actually averages more sale per volume released. It's manga stopped in 1995 and didn't start again until DragonBall Super in 2016. Thats 21 years and it still has half the total sales. Also I was talking iconism anyway. Case Closed also has more sales than dragonball and ik for a fact its not actually more popular than dragonball.
@@DairuTV I'm aware you were talking about being iconic, which is also what I was talking about. My point wasn't that it sold more, my point was that in Japan Luffy is more Iconic, the sales were just a fun fact. I wasn't even attacking Dragon Ball, One Piece wouldn't even exist without Dragon Ball. I was just saying that Dragon Ball is way more popular outside Japan than in Japan.
@@gaara_of_the_desert1118 I know you weren't attacking anything but what I'm saying is I simply disagree with your points. You're going to need to substantiate your claims because I don't believe for a second that Luffy is more iconic than Goku in Japan either. Maybe that was the case before dragonball started again, but now? Nah.
@@DairuTV It's hard to give objective facts on something like popularity, I guess the best I could do is just point out that Dragon Ball wasn't even in the top 10 best sellers last year, but like you said that doesn't mean anything in terms of a character's popularity. Ultimately you are right I can't say for certain Luffy's more iconic. All I have is what I've been told by Japanese people, but I suppose they don't necessarily know everyone's opinion.
@@gaara_of_the_desert1118 right in terms of numbers like sales and such its not even debatable that one peice reigns above all others. although that still has a lot to do with DB ending in 1995 if you ask me. but yeah purely on popularity, i dont see how Goku would be 2nd to anyone (in anime). He's up there with the likes of Superman in terms of notoriety.
Jaiden is actually vegan, which is where the scramble eggs joke came from she basically ordered scrambled eggs and said, "excuse me, but there's eggs in here"
Alpharads vid on it is def worth watching, despite being about the same trip it manages to still feel fresh. It helps that it shows more real footage which already makes it feel different from the animation, but the things he chooses to talk about and include are decidedly different then what Jaiden focused on. So both vids are def worth watching for anyone who loves their content. (Plus it is nice to see more real Vids/photos, it gives a more real feeling to everything, and shows off the merch they bought a bit better)
It makes sense that one piece would have more of a presence in japan. I mean dragonballs got the super manga, daima and a movie every now and then and thats basically it While one piece basically every piece of media on lockdown, manga anime movies cards merch
I remember as a kid being shocked going to the movies with my dad cause when we went to the bathrooms no matter how fast I moved he always beat me by MANY minutes. Like it took me at least 5 in an empty bathroom and he took 1. To be fair to kid me, I didn’t know how easily men could just pee compared to us 😂 I didn’t have brothers.
I havent experianced it myself but I have heard from alot of people that one piece is like a national passtime. If you ever go into Japan then you are going to see One Piece EVERYWHERE. One piece in Japan is like Spiderman or Superman in America. Dragon Ball is iconic but it is nothing compared to the One Piece obsession in Japan. Even the manga has passed Batman in sales. It is litterally the most sold comic after Superman.
i already had this conversation in the comments but sales dont mean as much as people think they do especially given the context. and saying its "nothing compared to" is ridiculous. Dragonball was over for 21 years and is still 4th place. Ik Japan loves Luffy, but that still doesnt make him more iconic than Goku. he straight up isnt.
My Mom doesnt either and she was Born a few years before Dragon Ball came Out and she only knows Pikachu too (to be fair that might be because of pokemon addiction.... I am literally jaiden with chykua when It comes to pokemon...)

Arizona is dry, no humidity. Dry heat is a lot easier to deal with. Meanwhile, Japan is humid as all hell.
yeah i guess that makes sense lol
That is nor true at all. I have lived in Mesa(a suburb of Phoenix)for 19 years, and it's relatively dry(
If I remember from Jacob's video, they spent a total of almost 17,500.
Sounds about right 🤣🤣 thats crazy tho
Still better than 18,000 for alpha camp
What absolute honour that Pokemon straight up have 2 TH-camrs go on a great free trip to Japan. I’m kinda jealous NGL.
hell yeah that would be so dope to be a part of!
