My apologies for the tardy reply. Been busy in the studio with students and not posting much to this channel. For 8inch tall figures we use 1/8th" - 10G - 3mil wire. It's stiff enough to hold up the small figures and soft enough to shape by had with simple hand tools. 2, 3, 4, more? strands can be braided (twisted) to dramatically increase holding power without having to buy larger diameters. For much larger forms we weld together steel armatures.
