Cat owners have successfully dealt with solid waste and associated smells for decades. It is interesting that we often think human waste will defeat us when cat waste doesn't, and of course the volume is much greater, but still the technology and general know-how is readily available.
Great comment and totally agree! It's all about perspective
Thank you for sharing this with so much detail, really useful 🙏🏽😊
You're most welcome. Really glad you enjoyed it and very happy it was helpful. Cheers!
Thanks for the information I’m researching this at the moment so it’s good timing😊
Just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I've brought your book from and started reading it. This is something we aim to do in the future
You're very welcome indeed and really glad you're enjoying the videos! Thanks for buying the book I really appreciate the support and encouragement. I hope you find it helpful for your future project!
you said 'do-do' when you were talking about the toilet.... yes, I'm a 50+ yr old child who found that amusing 😁😂
Hahaha! I appreciate that - i have a similar humour
Fantastic! Thank you so much for making the video. I've been waiting for this one. I have just bought your book too. Looking forward to reading it 👍
What a lovely comment! Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the content! Thanks Jason
Really great content. Very informative and enjoyable - thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
There are laws about poluting water courses. So if you're near streams or rivers it would be wise to check the legislation and planning IMHO. I use a 25 litre bucket in my compost loo and I fill it in about the same time as yours, which looks a lot smaller But I add a generous handful of sawdust after every deposit, which might account for the difference. Either that or I poo a lot!! The sawdust reduces odour dramatically. I don't use a vented system, it's in an outhouse but it's easy to install one using off the shelf pipe and a computer fan.
The sawdust does make a big difference with smell but where do you dump it when full we use bog mull in a compost heap.
Thanks for the video, it's great to see the thought process as thinking of how I would sort out a similar situation. How has it been since you've done the work - have you had any issues with it or is there anything you'd change? Thanks!
Thanks a lot! No issues at all so far. I think there's nothing i'd change with the waste situation as everything works pretty well. I would like to have a water catchment from the roof but that doesn't really have anything to do with it! ha!
Does soak away not contaminate the ground underneath? Is that sth you need planning permission?
The test is a "soil percolation test".
Thank you! I got the american name and now we've got to the bottom of it. Thanks!
You might look into the septic tank bacteria used to maintain septic tanks.
That's a very good point. Thanks for watching!
@@offgridpath I was just thinking it might keep your pipes cleaner for longer and not create so much pipe gunk that would stop up your flow 😁
The waste water should be at least 30 meters from the building as you will soon find out in the summer time 👍
You're quite right, but we've had two summers in the cabin and up until now we've had no problems so fingers crossed for the future!
That tree root in 2 years will plug your pipe being attracted to the water source. Please remove thanks
Yeah, I have had a few comments on this in previous videos. I'm going to have to remove those and hope they haven't done too much damage. Thanks for the concern and advice
Do you not need planning permission to build a soak away?
lol with that mentality you’ll never move onto your own land.
@@BoxingPrinceTVjust genuinely curious. I would love to do something like this rather than spend thousands on a septic system. Not sure how my curiosity warrants such an obnoxious reply, but hey ho! Have a great day!
@@BoxingPrinceTV I didn’t post with the intention of being a smart ass, but more to find out more information about this as I would like to do this if I could. From the little research I have done, it seems soakaways are illegal (I guess for environmental reasons), obviously off grid has done his very carefully and avoiding environmental damage which is great. But maybe he knows more about skirting round the law, in which case I would love to hear how. But anyway, not being judgmental or a smart ass, just curious.
Where does the pee go?
