nice to know how farms are run and how to harvest stuff. green beans is one veggie I do like boiled in salt and pepper to crisp tender and eat them right out of the pot. so to harvest the beans costs more than to sell to a food bank? maybe you can tell the food banks to come and pick them for cheap or even free the people who are benefiting from teh food bank can come and pick no? or is that not a good idea due to liability issues?
That’s not how the food bank system works here in Ohio. There is a head supervisor at a corporate office that works with every regional food bank. You have to contact her to schedule a delivery and she has to find out which food bank is able to accept it because many of them are packed full from accepting deliveries from hundreds of other farmers trying to do the same thing. Sometimes I can only take it on days where they’re getting ready to do a big distribution to the public. So there’s a lot of moving parts involved. We often just have to mow down over ripe Produce that didn’t get harvested, the food banks only pay enough to cover expenses, so you basically lose money if you try to go out and harvest it just to sell it to a food bank, it only makes sense if it’s leftover in your cooler from Market day and then you have to decide are you just gonna throw it out or deliver it which has its own expenses, fuel and labor, etc.

Why are so concerned about my hair and beard?? I've had a beard for almost 20 years and have no plans to shave it...maybe a slight trim, but the hair does need a good cut but it's not high on the priority list at the moment...got to make the hay while the sun shines!

Picked beans by hand once along time ago. Think I got paid 30 cents per Kilogram. Picked for 8.5 hours for a total $30. Not even worth the effort.
