I bought the small tapered blending brush and I'm still not sure how to gather product onto it. Do I swirl it around in the compact? Do I only get product on one side of the brush by sliding it across?

Well, it all depends how you want to use it! If you want the use the brush to apply colour in your crease then you should concentrate the eyeshadow on the tip of the brush. Same if you want to use the brush to apply colour to your outer corner (because it has a point - it's good for that). But, if you want to use it as a 'shader brush' (to apply colour all over the lid) then yes, you could use the side of the brush to do that. Remember that all brushes have many different uses, just experiment and see how you like to use it! :) Hope this helped!
