Learn how to grow black pepper from seeds at home. Growing black pepper from seed at home might look difficult, but with the right seeds and conditions, you can grow and harvest peppercorn from seeds, as I have grown in Sydney, Australia. You may be harvesting black peppers (Piper Nigrum) in about 4 years after sowing the seeds. Note that you have to buy peppercorn seeds from a garden shop, because the black peppers from grocery store will not germinate as they are harvested raw and dried. You may try red peppercorns which are fully ripe, but old peppercorns will take long to germinate or may not germinate atall..

I don't know about edible grains being treated with anti-sprouting chemicals. Isn't that forbidden considering that peppercorns are only eaten ground without washing

I think peppercorns are coated so that they do not sprout, but the coating is safe for eating.

I would think the seeds die because they r heat treated lightly roasted or something in a oven but just a guess I I herd they do something like that to coconuts bake or freez them before market

Cover keeps high humidity inside. If you do not cover the pot, then you have to ensure that the soil is always damp.
