Yellow! Hey, I'm a social worker and we know tons of people who need this kind of deep cleaning and we can never find anyone. Right now I'm working with formerly homeless people, now housed, and some are hoarders and are at risk of losing their housing. You are worried about exploiting people, which is exactly what you SHOULD be worried about, but if you approach the social worker it's different. She can identify people who need it and can talk to them about the filming aspect and they can easily say no or yes to her without pressure. I love the transformations, it is so satisfying to go from chaos to clean order, and the fact that it brings to light a mental health component makes it even better. There's tons of work out there and you are really needed. If you get monetized and can offer your services for free, even better. Contact an agency who works with permanent housing for low income seniors or formerly homeless people and you'll be off and running in an ethical way. Much love to you!

I've been a crazy cat lady for many years, so I've dealt with this. Here are some of my thoughts. Always having at least one litter box per cat, plus an extra one (2 cats = 3 boxes, 3 cats= 4 boxes). Making sure that the boxes are clean. Checking out the cats health at the vet. Getting cats fixed, if they aren't. Giving them adequate attention. Last resort, temporarily putting them in large cages with a litter box, to retrain them. Definitely not 24/7, but when you aren't right there with them to monitor the going outside the box. Wishing you the best with this situation. ☺❤🙏

What you said - if they try all that I bet it would solve the problem or at least get it narrowed down and easier to address in a focused way.

I also want to add to try different styles of litter boxes. I've had cats that preferred covered ones and others that preferred them to be open. We currently have a male cat that doesn't squat to pee, so he requires medium sized bins for litter boxes (as they have very high sides). Oh and clean up inappropriate pee or poop IMMEDIATELY! 👍

    • @miqa6902
      @miqa6902 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

if they are not picking up the cat poo they are not going to do all those steps. I think your method would definitely work but I also think it's too much work for them (I'm not saying they don't wont to do it, just saying it requires a lot of energy and time)

    • @carriematthews7991
      @carriematthews7991 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Exactly and place the litter boxes where they are hitting hard. Male cats will “compete” by spraying, just as dogs. Try cleaning with Hydrogen Peroxide. It neutralizes urine which is acidic. Be very generous with the peroxide and let it sit on the target areas for a while.

I love seeing things clean and makeovers. I love seeing things organized. I’ve done this for friends over the years. Last month I cleaned and organized my friend’s classroom, office, and storage closet.....she’s a teacher that has a classroom worth of stuff from 33 years of teaching) 122 large black garbage bags later she is clean, organized, decluttered, and ready to retire in 2 years. Currently cleaning for a friend who has broken her leg and had to have surgery. She will be down for 8 more weeks. Deep cleaning her house a little at a time. I say all this because I’m sure you know other people you can share your talent with. You’re doing a great thing for these people- watching from Lake Wales, Florida

The kitties are definitely crying out for help. A trip to the vet to rule out medical problems should happen asap. If not medical, even though the owners love them, finding another situation for them may be in order. These kitties are not happy....cats are not maliciously dirty animals. They are trying to tell the humans something. Thank you for caring about them!

Gabbi, You are an amazing person, to show the compassion and caring you do while dealing with such a mess is so amazing and inspiring. I’m so glad the cat will be taken to the vet. Spaying is always a good thing for house cats, but there may be additional complications/conditions that the Vet can address a well.
If you like this kind of extreme cleaning situation and wish to continue, you may want to contact Therapists/Mental Health Professionals in your area and offer your services. Having these professionals as a liaison/conduit for you may address your concerns about making absolutely sure your services are wanted, and the people are ready for the drastic changes you will be making in their lives.

The person might need to get extra litter boxes and place them where this kitty has originally been going potty. That might help deter the peeing around inappropriately. It's worth a try. The cat has it's urine scent in these areas and will only continue to gravitate to those spaces. But, yes, you hit the nail on the head....if the owner isn't addressing the urination spots right away, the cat will continue to go back there because is has already learned that behavior is acceptable. Also, it could be behavioral. The cat could be seeking attention that it's not getting by marking areas in protest.

@@ChumStun the bladder issue can be a real problem. I had a male cat, fixed, that whenever he got a bladder infection he would spray as though he wasn't fixed. It was the only time he did it. If the urine is really dark that is a good indication it might be a bladder issue.

A few suggestions for the cats.
    1. There marking there territory. They will need fixed and if there already fixed then there's nothing you can do.
    2. They are allergic to the cat litter, every time I see a cat box in that house it's never used.
    3. The other option is that have a urinary track infection, and need medication to help clear it up.
You videos are great! So amazing to help others. My favorite color is gray.

Cleaning videos are inspiring and get me up and moving myself, not to mention it makes me feel less alone during the times when my home is looking less than great. Like we are all human. Then theres the satisfaction of seeing the transformation. I also have come across a lot of cleaners who clean depression homes for free and film it and make their money from the adds. So i put on videos from mostly youtubers from those situations more so they get their payments and can afford to keep cleaning the homes for free so people who need the free to low cost help get that help. Even if its just while Im doing something else and want sound.

I would add additional litter boxes including one in that room. Would also get them in for a check up. I also read to do white vinegar followed by enzyme. There is always a reason for cats doing this but they will keep going back to where they have sprayed. Some cats are extremely picky about litter boxes. Location, open pan vs closed, type of litter, needing it clean.

Congrats! Green is my favorite color. Medical issues come to mind for the cats, could be uti, crystals, spraying on the walls/vertical surfaces etc. Also ammonia based products will attract them, I would use vinegar on the floors this may deter them if it's not medical, also boxes need to be scrupulously clean and possibly multiple boxes. Hope this helps!

Sometimes cats do this in situations of stress or change. There are some pet cleaning sprays that have enzymes in them that help to eliminate the hormonal scents they like to mark their territory with, and it can dissuade them from remarking it later. It could also be that they were inadvertently locked out of whatever room their litter box was in when they needed to do their business. It’s so kind of you to go help these folks.

What attracted me to your videos: the words "Hoarder House" and "anxiety and depression" are what caught my eye initially. I am a huge fan of the tv show Hoarders, and even though my own home has never looked like that, I do understand anxiety and depression and what it can do to you. I also think it's refreshing to see someone want to help a person in that situation. I'm sure you never thought you'd be filming yourself cleaning a hoard and have people like it. What a world.
About the cats: I only saw one cat, but there must be more than one? I've had cats all my life and I can tell you that they most likely got away with peeing where they wanted, and they continue to do it. Also, they peed there in the past because more than likely their litter box wasn't cleaned. It may be hard for the owner to do but the litter pan must be cleaned every day (get a scooper), and the litter changed once a week (or sooner). If there are multiple cats, then maybe get more than one litter pan. My cat does not like the closed in pan and maybe these cats don't either. Just a thought. Also, plug in's can help with odor.
    Can't wait for more content!

Putting a litter tray out where the cat usually pees/poops, plus one somewhere else, can help retrain her to go to the loo in the proper place. It's not the cat's fault, it's a natural behaviour and can be a stress response. Something like Feliway plugged in can help keep her calm too, but generally cats appreciate a higher level of cleanliness than humans so... they'll go where it's clean unless they're taught otherwise.
Also, keeping water bowls away from food around the house so she can go get something to drink in private can help her stress levels.

Assuming the cat(s) have been medically evaluated by a veterinarian and assuming they are spayed/neutered the spraying is a marking and/or stress response. Normal behavior for some cats. They aren't trying to be bad. It's usually a response to the environment, especially any changes. The cleaning & decluttering could be even causing them to step up their efforts to re-mark their territory. Given the occupants of the house are depressed & stressed...you can see the problem. There could also be outside cats coming up to the door and windows creating stress. I've worked with cats for decades and have had chronic sprayers myself. Moving to a new location caused two of my cats to quit spraying. It's not easy to figure out what they are reacting to. Possibly everything going on. This situation here is not a case of "letting" the cats pee everywhere. Inappropriate elimination, especially spraying is a very challenging thing to combat even for seasoned professionals. CD Stress by Hills Science Diet could help. They need to consult with their veterinarian for that and some other options. Best of luck to everyone!

If they have more than one cat then they need a box for each cat that is clean and accessible. If she's in heat she will bleed, not pee and poop. Green is my favorite color. Gabbi, I took care of pets for my daughter while they were on vacation. I bought cat litter and dumped it into the box. Then I noticed there was cat pee in a couple of areas of the home when I went to check on the animals. They have two cats. Turns out the younger cat didn’t care about the type of litter (clumping vs non, or the scent) but senior cat has always used fresh step original non-clumping. I didn’t know that and just bought what I could find at the store. Something as simple as that could have set off the cat. May not be the cause but worth checking into.

You have a positive attitude about doing the job, I love the change without drama, evidence that these folks lives are becoming less stressed now that they have space, that perhaps their depression doesn’t weigh so heavily upon them. I also love new tricks, new methods to keep my own home. Vet for the cats and caged retraining, check the litter boxes to ensure the owners are keeping up with scooping, enzyme cleaner and it’s possible that they dislike each other, I had trouble when my house sitter unwittingly locked my four in my home together, god it was nasty but it didn’t occur to her that they might have dominance issues and act out.

  • @valerieconsoer6050

Do they not have a litter box?? I completely understand how hard it is to function and care for yourself or someone else when in a deep depression. But if they truly cannot take care of their cat, they really shouldn’t have the cat. Neighbors will start complaining if they don’t start cleaning after their cats! Cat pee is a very distinct smell.

First of all congrats on your channel growth! You are putting out great contents and it shows!
About what I like to see in your videos I would say that is the process : dirty becoming clean, unorganized becoming organized, not necessarily the extreme ones, but all of them. I also think that as your channel growth maybe some people who need help can reach out to you. I see this happening in other channels and could be a possibility for you if is something you would be comfortable with.

Congratulations! I've been watching, finally hitting the subscribe button. I love red. There is something red in every room of my home. If the cat is male and not neutered, that could be a contributing factor to the marking. They also like clean litter boxes. Vinegar is the best cleaner for animal accidents. It gets rid of the odor that brings them back to the same spot to do it again. I enjoy cleaning videos for two reasons. It inspires me to clean my own home, and it isn't politics!🙂

And it is fraught with challenges, too. I respect your reticence and would encourage you to consider the 'breath of fresh air' you offer to clients besieged by life events. Yours truly is a gift. I like improvements of the type that restore things to how they were when they were new. I like organization, but I prefer decluttering. I love garage clean outs, but not if the owner is keeping a majority of what's in the garage. I love cleaning and painting and fixing up and making something worn out look great again. Cleaning and organizing channels are a dime a dozen, but it's really difficult to find a channel of someone who helps someone else declutter their hoard. Living With Cambriea was doing de-hoarding for a while, and her subscribership jumped up like crazy! But then she had to stop because she was expecting a baby. I would love it if someone did this as a business (*wink wink) and then shared it with us. (food for thought) 🙂

And I would hope that that person would also understand that if you're willing to offer that help for free (especially when professional help is very $$$) in exchange for a simple video, then that's absolutely a great exchange.

    • @mccarronjen

Agreed. I would have walked my butt right into the room of whoever owns the cats and handed them the sprayer, paper towel roll, and towel and told them to get to it. If they didn't, I'd march right out the front door. I understand depression and anxiety, but I also understand laziness, and this seems to fall into that category. I can not imagine having the audacity to leave that there KNOWING she was coming to help again.
      That's just me though. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I don't have one of those sweet spirits like this girl has got. 🙂
Edit: She just said the owners are at work. I am gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and hope the poo was fresh. All that urine though...not likely from one day at work...and if so, the cats need to see a vet...like pronto.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way. There's charity, but using depression as an excuse to live like that is just that. An excuse. I've suffered with depression my whole dang life. I'm 60,and have learned environment is about 50 % of getting better. Your environment reflects what's going on in your head. My youngest daughter is bipolar and she keeps her room clean, she says why add to my depression by sleeping in a gross room. God helps those who help themselves. I feel that means he will give you the strength needed to get through.

Check out the resolve urine destroyer. It may help with the pee stains and smells. I would also suggest to the cat owner that he/she put additional litter boxes around the apartment. It may encourage the cats to go in there instead of on the floors and furniture. If it’s a male cat he may need to be fixed.

My favorite color is aqua. Gabby you are a very excellent cleaner and organizer! I am enjoying your videos because you do a very thorough job, you address sections that I would avoid such as cleaning walls and ceilings. I admire you for helping people and even cleaning up after their animals. I think viewers enjoy your nice personality and you are a good communicator. My favorite part of cleaning videos is watching the process but mainly seeing the before and after comparisons. It is very satisfying to see how clean it looks at the end but some cleaning videos only show the end result for a second. I like that you let the viewers enjoy the clean results at the end by going thru the details of the cleaned out room. i don't like it when they snap their fingers and it's all done. you showed us the steps to get there. The length of the videos is perfect and you are not shaming or calling names about the people you are helping. Women's support groups church pastors or social service agencies may be able to tell you names of families who need help with cleaning. get their agreement to film in writing. Great job!
