Mama Mai must not be so hard on herself and Jeannie as well I felt was too hard on her. In my experience, on-off relationships hardly ever work out so it's best to leave it off in my opinion. Also, if you spent a lot of money on lawyers trying to break up with someone there is a VERY good reason why and she should remember that. Usually after a break up you only remember the good times and when you get back together it's good for about 2 weeks then you're reminded of why you wanted to break up in the first place😒

Moral of the story: Don’t let the One get away. Communication and forgiveness are key. Mama Mai! You can sit down with Uncle Ted in an area with no distractions (lol) and talk about getting some counseling together. Even if the therapist says that he is not gonna change his mind at the end, you can say that you tried! Don’t give up! We’re rooting for you and we love you!!!

That’s the side of divorce people don’t speak about, the regret. It may not come instantly but it will come one day. Plus, the effect a divorce has on kids, painful. Take your time in singleness. Don’t rush a relationship.

In life, whether you make a decision that either benefits you in the long run or not- upon reflection you have some form of regret. Regret on why you got yourself into that position/situation in the first place? Or regret on what you or the other party could have done to better that situation?
"Before marriage, keep both eyes open. After marriage, close one eye." Once in a committed relationship, do not focus on your partner's faults. Focus on the good. Appreciate & cherish the positives. This is why fathers are important to girls, how fathers treat their daughters are so important, my dad did not show a lot of emotion but he made time to sit with me and talk, watch movies , take me places etc, he has passed on now but their are moments when I have conversations with him . To all the fathers who have made us strong and loving, good job, we love you. Mama Mai we love you , ask for what you want, men are thought not to show emotion from young, so it is hard for them, especially the older generation.

Your mum comes from trauma, she NEEDED your dad to show her and the world he was there for her and would fight the world for her. With a trauma base it take years to understand why you are who you are or why you react the way you react and even longer without psychological help. Your mum had done well to understand and reflect on her life. ❤️

Mama mai's bad experiences with her father affected her decisions onto adulthood and marriage to papa mai. Mama mai if you read this, pray to God to give you a heart of forgiveness and healing. I think mama Mai was destroyed from her father’s situation and it affected her terribly... we live and learn so she really does has a point that the person she was before isn’t who she is now
2 generations of my (Asian) family has been affected by abuse, physical, verbal, mental, you name it. And it is NOT EASY to break the cycle of abuse but also not impossible. Go to the root cause and seek therapy for it. To those surviving and wanting to conquer, keep the good fight. Be courageous and face yourself and keep learning and fighting for yourself.

The part where Mama Mai said she tried keeping the divorce a secret... same thing happened w my parents. The kids aren't stupid. If something big like a divorce is happening, you have to communicate that with your kids. My parents were really bad with hiding it and they took out a lot of it on us. What they did still has a terrible effect on me to this day. Getting therapy for it and all.
I really appreciate you sharing this Jeannie. We forget our parents are humans too sometimes and the lack of generational communication can sometimes cause issues. I think these types of convos are so important, your mum is a real trooper for opening up like this, so much accountability!
This topic is very needed because when parents divorce with kids involved, they tend to forget about the kids feelings. Kids are resilient, we pick up on everything and are very much aware of your traits. Sometimes we take that trauma with us and try to shield ourselves when we step into relationships and most likely hurt ourselves. First know how to love yourself and change the things you wished your parents did differently because we forget we have the choice to break the cycle. My mom raised me the way her dad raised her and it caused so much pain and heartache I took it with me in my relationships and I finally understood it was me too hurting my relationships. Protect yourself but don't be to guarded, you could pass up your biggest blessing. It starts with yourself, know your worth and know your boundaries. Blessings to all.
Being a kid from a broken home will break you or you'll end up on drugs or dead. Thankfully my neighbor of twenty years gave me the love I needed to learn and accept my mom. I hope my story helps and I hope if you need peace and love, you find it. If nobody's tells you, I love you and I'm all ears.
Sometimes, our parents make decisions that they think are in the children’s best interests but they really aren’t. My mom also believed that staying with my father in a relationship that was no longer working would be beneficial to us, but the environment that resulted from that line of thinking was not at all beneficial. We were all happier as a family unit when my parents decided that they were better off as friends. At the end of the day, I think it’s important to remember that we really are all just winging it in life and figuring this stuff out day-by-day. No matter how old we are and how much wisdom we gain, there is always something new for us to learn or refine about ourselves.
That's something I don't understand, how can you expect your kids to be happy when you are clearly unhappy? Growing up in an environment were my parents were toxic, unhappy & angry all the time as a kid you can feel & see what is happening & lying about it saying you're still in love & happy is messed up. My Sibling & I have a lot of mental problems because of it. :/ Parents need to be truthful & stop lying to their kids. Its called life, things don't always work out & you should teach your kids about these hard situations & how to be respected & love yourself. instead of lying & trying to shield them. Because of that ( being an adult now) I noticed my mom is very bitter that she wasted her life with someone who doesn't love her or respect her. We have always wished out parents got a divorce so they can be happy, but I guess its too late now & they're just stuck 💔😣
@@annwolf2127 hi Ann, I think the best you can do with that situation is make sure you apply those lessons in your own life. It’s easy to say what we wish our parents would have done - but they couldn’t give us what they didn’t have. The way I try to think about it is working on providing myself with what my parents couldn’t - I also grew up in a really chaotic home, so I try to make my space as peaceful as possible. I saw them making very avoidable mistakes, so I watch out for them in my own life, because their DNA is in me and I can be prone to doing the same things they do. I never appreciated the way that they underestimated my intelligence as a child, so I’m very mindful of the way that I interact with and talk to children now that I’m an adult. You have to decide to break obvious patterns, because they couldn’t. It could be because they didn’t know that the pattern was there, or they just didn’t care; but since *you* know that, you can do something about it. Role models are great, but sometimes, our families are living manuals on what *not* to do, and that’s just as valuable.
I don’t think she needs to beg for him to be affectionate towards her, if he is the person who first initiated the conversation about them getting back together. But things always happen for a reason, if it didn’t work out it was for a better reason. The divorce could have contributed to Mama mai’s personal growth in terms of her temperament. It’s so great to see this mother and daughter conversations where the mother can see her faults.
I think she wanted her husband to give her something that she didn't get from her dad. She said she took out her anger on him whenever she would talk to her mom and her dad had been mistreating her. How do you think that affected Jeannie's dad? If we're being honest Mama Mai should be the one asking to be taken back. And when he asked,he didn't do it the way she wanted? Why does that sound right?
Having these conversations with our parents helps remind us that our parents are only human and that they are also learning as they go. Thank you for telling your story. It helps others know they are not alone.

This is what I really need now. I married my first man and I am hot tampered, bossy, outspoken and aggressive. I need to be more considerate and accommodating because my husband is the best husband anyone could asked for. We are more than 20yrs together and bless with 2 kids and financially ok. Not a lot of women are ready to have this conversation. Not a lot of women can admit that they fucked the guy up in the relationship. That they were the abusive one and used their spouse. She said what so many women say today “I’m successful and I don’t need a man” and then got into a relationship/marriage and treated him as disposable. I know women face their own obstacles with men when it comes to relationships but this is what men are scared of. Investing and starting a family with a women who loves you less than you love her. I think this discussion was important to have to reveal the aftermath of our decisions made. What are you left with when you’re 60+ looking back with regrets. This is something to learn from so we can make better decisions now and live happier and more fulfilled lives.
Sadly she was hurt and abused and hurt ppl, hurt ppl. But at least she can now reflect and understand where she went wrong. But it won’t be able to change her actions and the past unfortunately.

I’m a little younger than Mama Mai. This miscommunication is not a generational problem. This is a cultural issue. Sweet Mama Mai, from a woman who has suffered childhood trauma like yourself, speaking to a professional to work through your pain would be one of the best gifts you could give yourself. It’s never too late. My heart ached as you spoke about your father and the pain he has caused you. A great therapist will teach you how to communicate your needs and wants in all of your relationships. Especially with your beloved Uncle Ted. Work on you and then you can work on your relationships with your loved ones. Your most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. You deserve to be loved exactly the way you need to be loved. When you truly love yourself, you will never allow anyone to love you in a way that does not meet your needs. I’ve been married to my sweet and PATIENT husband for 33 years. We’ve been together since we were 17 and 19. If our men truly love us, they’ll grow with us and cheer us on while we heal. Omg I can so so relate to this. I’m on my second marriage and almost lost this one too because of my young mentality that Mama Mai describes. I had to basically lose everything to see what I took for granted. With a lot of prayer and finding God, I must say that my second marriage is still going strong but I had to change my mentality and understand that I have a loving husband and a beautiful daughter that needs me and I didn’t want to lose my family and start over. The hurt it causes in the children like Jeannie said is something u have to think about. Appreciate what’s in front of you and don’t take it for granted. Mama Mai sacrificed so much and had her children so young, I feel for her as a mom. It brings me to tears to see how much she suffered with her parents.
Mama Mai had to close her heart after her divorce for her protection and preservation. She couldn't have asked Papa Mai to sit closer to her and hug her when he asked for reconciliation. He would have had to do that organically. She wasn't faking it...she wasn't feeling it then. Just regretting it now. My opinion.
Problem is some people find it difficult to display their emotions, to be affectionate. Probably because of their upbringing. With help and communication, they get better

This is why fathers are important to girls, how fathers treat their daughters are so important, my dad did not show a lot of emotion but he made time to sit with me and talk, watch movies , take me places etc, he has passed on now but their are moments when I have conversations with him . To all the fathers who have made us strong and loving, good job, we love you. Mama Mai we love you , ask for what you want, men are thought not to show emotion from young, so it is hard for them, especially the older generation.

Mama mai's bad experiences with her father affected her decisions onto adulthood and marriage to papa mai. Mama mai if you read this, pray to God to give you a heart of forgiveness and healing. 2 generations of my (Asian) family has been affected by abuse, physical, verbal, mental, you name it. And it is NOT EASY to break the cycle of abuse but also not impossible. Go to the root cause and seek therapy for it. To those surviving and wanting to conquer, keep the good fight. Be courageous and face yourself and keep learning and fighting for yourself.

The part where Mama Mai said she tried keeping the divorce a secret... same thing happened w my parents. The kids aren't stupid. If something big like a divorce is happening, you have to communicate that with your kids. My parents were really bad with hiding it and they took out a lot of it on us. What they did still has a terrible effect on me to this day. Getting therapy for it and all.
I really appreciate you sharing this Jeannie. We forget our parents are humans too sometimes and the lack of generational communication can sometimes cause issues. I think these types of convos are so important, your mum is a real trooper for opening up like this, so much accountability!

This topic is very needed because when parents divorce with kids involved, they tend to forget about the kids feelings. Kids are resilient, we pick up on everything and are very much aware of your traits. Sometimes we take that trauma with us and try to shield ourselves when we step into relationships and most likely hurt ourselves. First know how to love yourself and change the things you wished your parents did differently because we forget we have the choice to break the cycle. My mom raised me the way her dad raised her and it caused so much pain and heartache I took it with me in my relationships and I finally understood it was me too hurting my relationships. Protect yourself but don't be to guarded, you could pass up your biggest blessing. It starts with yourself, know your worth and know your boundaries. Blessings to all.

Sometimes, our parents make decisions that they think are in the children’s best interests but they really aren’t. My mom also believed that staying with my father in a relationship that was no longer working would be beneficial to us, but the environment that resulted from that line of thinking was not at all beneficial. We were all happier as a family unit when my parents decided that they were better off as friends.
At the end of the day, I think it’s important to remember that we really are all just winging it in life and figuring this stuff out day-by-day. No matter how old we are and how much wisdom we gain, there is always something new for us to learn or refine about ourselves.
That's something I don't understand, how can you expect your kids to be happy when you are clearly unhappy?
Growing up in an environment were my parents were toxic, unhappy & angry all the time as a kid you can feel & see what is happening & lying about it saying you're still in love & happy is messed up. My Sibling & I have a lot of mental problems because of it. :/
Parents need to be truthful & stop lying to their kids. Its called life, things don't always work out & you should teach your kids about these hard situations & how to be respected & love yourself. instead of lying & trying to shield them.

@@annwolf2127 hi Ann, I think the best you can do with that situation is make sure you apply those lessons in your own life. It’s easy to say what we wish our parents would have done - but they couldn’t give us what they didn’t have.
The way I try to think about it is working on providing myself with what my parents couldn’t - I also grew up in a really chaotic home, so I try to make my space as peaceful as possible. I saw them making very avoidable mistakes, so I watch out for them in my own life, because their DNA is in me and I can be prone to doing the same things they do. I never appreciated the way that they underestimated my intelligence as a child, so I’m very mindful of the way that I interact with and talk to children now that I’m an adult. You have to decide to break obvious patterns, because they couldn’t. It could be because they didn’t know that the pattern was there, or they just didn’t care; but since *you* know that, you can do something about it.
Role models are great, but sometimes, our families are living manuals on what *not* to do, and that’s just as valuable.

I need to be more considerate and accommodating because my husband is the best husband anyone could asked for. We are more than 20yrs together and bless with 2 kids and financially ok. Not a lot of women are ready to have this conversation. Not a lot of women can admit that they fucked the guy up in the relationship. That they were the abusive one and used their spouse.
She said what so many women say today “I’m successful and I don’t need a man” and then got into a relationship/marriage and treated him as disposable. I know women face their own obstacles with men when it comes to relationships but this is what men are scared of. Investing and starting a family with a women who loves you less than you love her.
I think this discussion was important to have to reveal the aftermath of our decisions made. What are you left with when you’re 60+ looking back with regrets. This is something to learn from so we can make better decisions now and live happier and more fulfilled lives.

I’m a little younger than Mama Mai. This miscommunication is not a generational problem. This is a cultural issue. Sweet Mama Mai, from a woman who has suffered childhood trauma like yourself, speaking to a professional to work through your pain would be one of the best gifts you could give yourself. It’s never too late. My heart ached as you spoke about your father and the pain he has caused you. A great therapist will teach you how to communicate your needs and wants in all of your relationships. Especially with your beloved Uncle Ted. Work on you and then you can work on your relationships with your loved ones. Your most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. You deserve to be loved exactly the way you need to be loved. When you truly love yourself, you will never allow anyone to love you in a way that does not meet your needs. I’ve been married to my sweet and PATIENT husband for 33 years. We’ve been together since we were 17 and 19. If our men truly love us, they’ll grow with us and cheer us on while we heal. I had to basically lose everything to see what I took for granted. I really enjoyed this. The feelings are so raw, and it takes courage and love to be able to show your true feelings and accept what has happened. You are a strong woman and you raised a strong daughter. It's not everyday a parent will admit their flaws in front of their children, since they want to be the best role model to their children. I give you kudos Mama Mai 💕👏
i love how real and honest mama mai is being ...no one is perfect but being able to have a open honest relationship with your parents like this is something everyone doesnt have.

I feel like alot of times woman find men that are in alot of ways like our fathers. Thats good when you have a great father but when you don't we end up with feelings like mama mai ..in my case I just wanted love bc I didnt feel loved by my dad so I picked the 1st man that came along that gave me attention and unfortunately it wasn't real love 💔 ..I wish mama mai the best 😇🥰
Mama Mai sacrificed so much and had her children so young, I feel for her as a mom. It brings me to tears to see how much she suffered with her parents.
When you have moved on and look at your ex with someone else, their is something surreal about wondering about that unchosen path.

This was such a powerful discussion that needed to be had. Sometimes with divorce so readily available it's easier to bounce than work it out.
Mama Mai had to close her heart after her divorce for her protection and preservation. She couldn't have asked Papa Mai to sit closer to her and hug her when he asked for reconciliation. He would have had to do that organically. She wasn't faking it...she wasn't feeling it then. Just regretting it now. My opinion.

Problem is some people find it difficult to display their emotions, to be affectionate. Probably because of their upbringing. With help and communication, they get better
