I’m binging your videos because you’re just so good. I’m here for the mystery thrillers. I started my own channel on my 70th birthday and to see someone so young have so much poise and be so articulate makes my heart glad. I read the silent patient and did not like it because of the stigma against mentally ill people. Let me explain. The author makes mentally ill people into psychopaths. That just adds to what people think about the mentally ill. And they’re mostly wrong. Most mentally ill people are Peaceful and gentle. Also he described hospitals as places where anyone can get in and do anything. That can’t be more wrong. I appreciated your balanced view on the books. Some creators tend to only say the positive of a book and that isn’t always true. I’m subscribing today. Aloha
I went down a rabbit hole watching tons of your videos and your big on that confessions book. I found it on a Ebook for 2.99 I think I’m going to have to give it a try after I finish pretty girls.
I enjoyed Someone We Know a lot more than A Stranger in the House but something about Shari Lapena's writing style grinds my gears SO much, and like you said her books are entertaining but forgettable. I actually always forget I even read Someone We Know lmfao. As for Hairpin Bridge, I LOVED No Exit so I'm debating on picking it up regardless if you think you have a differing opinion because No Exit was just so exhilarating and maybe not the most ~high-brow literature~ but it was dang fun! I'm curious to see if I'll feel like you did or like most other reviewers!
I liked Hairpin Bridge too! 🙋🏻♀️ I compared it to a high action Hollywood movie where you’re there not to think too hard, suspend reality and just go along for a wild ride.
Oooh I read Who is Maud Dixon recently and I also listen to it on audio! I went into it blind and I loved the book. I went back to read the Goodreads synopsis after you mentioned this and I agree, it gives away so much!
Cuteee thumbnail 😍. I totally understand your AHS comparison! You’re making me want to read Hairpin Bridge! I’m so excited to read Local Woman Missing! I own it but haven’t gotten to it yet. It sounds like exactly what I would like.
I just discovered your channel and I have to send you some posi vibes💃🏼 Your vids are the best. I love hearing how you talk about books (since finding your channel I think I have binge watched 90% of your stuff). Also we have the exact same reading taste, which is 10/10. Keep it up! Love to see it. 💞
Did listen to Who is Maud Dixon and liked it but unfortunately did read the GoodReads summary which was a real spoiler. Also listened to The Plot soon after, as I love books about writing or publishing. I actually liked that book more than Dixon but it is not set up so much or as well set up as Dixon but presented a few more thoughtful ideas where as Dixon was just fun and better paced. But I love my reading to get me thinking. I think the best book I've read this year so far and it was a novella and SO good was Summer Frost by Blake Crouch. It is a bit of a thriller and a bit of sci fi and was just incredible that I can't stop thinking about. Go listen to it, can't imagine you won't be blown away.
Going to have to pick up Maud Dixon now. I’m so curious! Favorite book so far of 2021... weirdly enough is The Narrowboat Summer by Anne Youngson. It’s slow and meandering, which are usually negative descriptors, but it just works perfectly in that book. It’s one that will definitely be a comfort read for me. Life’s Too Short by Abby Jimenez was also a really pleasant surprise for me - funny and romantic, but also really touching and insightful in some surprising subjects.
I read One to Watch last month and I just couldn't stand the romance aspect of the story, but that's probably bc I don't like the Bachelorette either. I'm so glad to hear Sweethand was good! That's one that seemed really adorable and I'm excited to read it. I put Gods of Jade and Shadow as my favorite book of the year in my midyear tag ☺
Yes Maud Dixon! I was so glad to hear several people say don’t read the synopsis. Gah I loved that book! Favorite book of 2021 so far: it’s between Finlay Donovan and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
I like your reviews. You always have lots of your own insight to give as to why you liked or disliked something. My taste is different but not completely. I like anything that evokes the thrilling feeling too. I usually get it from Agatha Christie's books and I have a Gillian Flynn you suggested on my TBR. Hopefully it is ok. I am not into antiheroes that much but if they have some kind of moral compass/humanity, I am more ok with them. I loved The Silent Patient which was a 5 star read this year. Will be interested to try The Maidens. I am much more easily fooled than you so am optimistic about that one. About Hairpin Bridge. I don't think an opinion is ever a bad opinion when it comes to reading taste. It might transgress the norm but if you liked a book, you liked a book.
Thanks so much for this thoughtful comment! I also love Agatha Christie, just haven’t picked anything up from her in a while. Do you have any front running recommendations from her?
@@carolinejohnson3483 No problem Caroline. Just felt like giving it at the time! Bookslikewhoa is very good for Agatha Christie recommendations and I feel like you may benefit from her reviews for something you may like. Haven't read Christie in a while except for one exception: Curtain: Poirot's Last Case which was great for me but not as great for Bookslikewhoa. I would also recommend reading at least one Poirot before it if you've never read one to get a sense of who he is as a character but Curtain is still a great stand alone. And Then There Were None is probably her most famous and it deserves to be. Crooked House and Death on the Nile are also very good.
My favorite books so far in 2021 have been: 1) The Brown Sisters trilogy by Talia Hibbert 2) Yolk by H.K. Choi (trigger warnings for this: disordered eating, cancer, cheating, bulimia, and parental abuse) 3) All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven (trigger warnings: suicide, depression, grief) 4) The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi 5) A Different Blue by Amy Harmon 6) The Vanishing Deep by Astrid Scholte 7) The Glass Ocean by Beatrice Williams, Lauren Willig, and Karen White 8) The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
my best book so far is The Kinder Poison by Natalie Mae! I don’t know if it’s a fantasy that everyone will love, but since fantasy isn’t my favorite genre it was perfect for me!
Yes! I just finished The Maidens I would give it about the same 3.5 stars. I think what he does so greatly is his transitions into the reveals at the end. I also felt annoyed that for like 200 pgs nothing really happens? None the less I would read anything he writes in the future.
i read the synopsis before reading who is maud dixon and still enjoyed it but tbh i think a Lot of the negative feedback on the book is the fault of the spoilery synopsis bc so many complained about the drawn out beginning but it feels so much slower bc you’re just waiting for the stuff mentioned in the synopsis to pop up
I like Who is Maud Dixon toooooo!!! But I really dislike Local woman missing as it has too many timelines, which is unnecessary and the characters are so bland to me. Someone we know is actually one of my favorite thrillers :)
So gone girl is my favorite thriller because I had no clue about the plot, it had a great twist at 50%, and I hated the characters but rooted for them. THEREFORE I need to read who is Maud Dixon RIGHT NOW

i love how you talk abt your reasons for disliking/liking books! it’s super clear yet entertaining at the same time
I went down a rabbit hole watching tons of your videos and your big on that confessions book. I found it on a Ebook for 2.99 I think I’m going to have to give it a try after I finish pretty girls.
New subscriber. I love your no spoiler overviews of each book!
It’s cause the settings and storylines of lapenas books sound so dang good
Ok now that you finished one to watch can you finish the great alone
Hahaha u right

Yesss!! I was so surprised!!

Hello I’m here again because I started local woman missing and got super disturbed and needed to remember what u said about it
I’m so glad I found your channel. We have the same reading taste plus your review delivery is 👍🏼

@@carolinejohnson3483 💜 can’t wait for whatever you put out next!
I agree with you on The Maidens. I really did not enjoy it and was a generous 2 star for me. I couldn't stand the characters and the plot was hohum.
Agree!

I’ve read some Blake Crouch before but haven’t heard of Summer Frost - I’ll have to check it out! Thanks for the recommendation.
Your voice reminds of Rachel from The Earls family. Must be the accent. So cute
I love wrap-ups and really enjoyed yours. So many new books to try.
the thumbnail is so cute !!!! 🥺🥺 lots of love
Love u bex!!!
I love how you explain the synopsis!! Thumbs up ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Adding these to the TBR - u know the narrow path road sounds like something I would enjoy!
I'm reading Life's Too Short right now!
Just discovered your channel! Pretty excited to be here.
Yay!! Thank you for watching!
Do you think Maud Dixon would be good on audio?
I literally went out and bought Who is Maud Dixon? After watching this video 😅
😂 😃 😄 😅......my camera died :)

YES! Ooh I still need to finish the great alone!!
I feel the same about the maidens. I did finish it fast though! I listened to it on audio.

I was underwhelmed by The Maidens. I loved The Silent Patient but for some reason this newer one just didn’t hit the mark for me.
AGREED!
What?!!! Oh no! I loved this book. I thought it was great❤️
Same thoughts on the Maidens. I don't get the hype.
My favorite books so far in 2021 have been:

Nodding along for The Maidens.
I have the same rating system and always feel like I have to justify my 3 stars haha.
Float Plan sounds so good🥺
okay I’ve added so many books to my TBR!
my best book so far is The Kinder Poison by Natalie Mae! I don’t know if it’s a fantasy that everyone will love, but since fantasy isn’t my favorite genre it was perfect for me!
AHHH I gotta re-request Who is Maud Dixon!!!! 😜
I loved Who is Maud Dixon! ☺
New sub here. Love your personality and wrap up. 💙
The Push was so good
Fave book so far was Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko
My top 3 best books of the year so far: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, Anxious People by Fredrik Backman and Near The Bone by Christina Henry
LOVE anxious people!! And near the bone is on my TBR, great choices!
Yes! I just finished The Maidens I would give it about the same 3.5 stars. I think what he does so greatly is his transitions into the reveals at the end. I also felt annoyed that for like 200 pgs nothing really happens? None the less I would read anything he writes in the future.
Completely agree!!
I agree about Someone we know

Ooh that’s interesting, I agree! And I’m glad you really enjoyed it, I thought it was so much fun!
I like Who is Maud Dixon toooooo!!! But I really dislike Local woman missing as it has too many timelines, which is unnecessary and the characters are so bland to me. Someone we know is actually one of my favorite thrillers :)
Interesting!!
I felt the same way about One to Watch! I felt like it dragged so much and I ended up not caring about any of the characters 😅
“Alex. We’re on a first name basis”😂
I am so excited to read Sweethand! An enemies to lovers with well-established characters was all I needed to hear to be convinced 🤗
I bought Float Plan the other day because you said it was sad and I guess I wanted to feel ✨pain✨
Hahaha 71 minutes of raw footage was enough 💀
The way you feel about Shari Lapena characters is how I feel about Alex Michaelides characters 😩 I just don’t feel for them!!
I’m so happy you liked hairpin bridge 😂 I just felt like Lena was holding a gun up for THE ENTIRE BOOK and I was exhausted for her lmao
So gone girl is my favorite thriller because I had no clue about the plot, it had a great twist at 50%, and I hated the characters but rooted for them. THEREFORE I need to read who is Maud Dixon RIGHT NOW
“This is just really selfless of me” LMAO ILY
Girl best book I’ve read so far is Penny Reid’s beard science but also Malibu rising but also Circe
Can confirm that Lena just held a gun the whole time😂😂
first, you look beautiful in this video!!
hahah omg i remember when you first started one to watch
hairpin bridge sounds really good!! adding to my tbr!!
oooh sweethand kinda sounds like the unhoneymooners!!
Sahar I love you omg
I hated The maidens so all good u didn’t love it bc I’m in the I hated it group
I read One to Watch last month, and for me it's the same. Just meh
My favorite book of 2021 so far has been The Ickabog!! Needed something like that after the train wreck that was 2020
Interesting, I’ll have to look into it!
