No not for national costume it was part of cultural dress.

Yes short hair are not a problems. But very long hair are.
Long hair is problem how? And up to which length it is not problem?
Very long till waist may coz problem, coz in my time 1-2 girls got rejected just coz of hair.
And it's possible if you wil get selected they will gonna ask you to cut it.
