Items she mentioned 1. White Sneakers 2. Black Loafers 3. Black Bootie/ Black Boots 4. Neutral Trousers (black, tan , white, etc) 5. Denim ( flat pants, flare, or unique cuts) 6. Body suit (natural colors) 7. Graphic Tee’s 8. Button Down Shirts (great for layering, easy to dress up or dress down) 9. Go to Blouse (based on personal style) 10. Black Blazer (a classic timeless piece) 11. Layering Sweater 12. Oversized Sweater 13. Sweat Suits (tip monochrome/ matching suits are a great way to look put together w/o a lot of work!) 14. Trench Coat
Fun fact! Button-down shirts refer to the little buttons on the collar points that you "button down" to fasten in place. They are a more formal subset of button-up shirts, which refers to shirts that fasten in the front with buttons
My "going out" outfit is black nike leggings and black track jacket now lol it honestly makes me sad but it feels dumb to even wear something as "dressed up" as jeans
Every time I watch a video about Allana’s wardrobe staples, I end up being obsessed with a particular style of clothing/piece and I’ll spend all day online shopping. 😅
I started building my adult wardrobe last year and let me tell you this video is SO helpful. I love the try on and explaining HOW each piece can be paired in multiple ways!
Love the aesthetic of these stable pieces. As a Torontorian and living under quarantine, these type of videos give me hope for when we can dress for outside, hell I even miss struggling through the slushy freezing winter.
Comfort is first priority in everything, I welcome the trend towards more comfort in clothes and footwear. I end up keeping only 30-50% of the shoes I buy; I don’t why they can’t make comfortable ones, especially wider in the toe box, and with cushioned soles - most are hard as rock. I just got re-measured at Nordstrom and am between a B and C width, which is slightly narrow to average, but shoes are always way too tight in the toes. I always buy the biggest size that will stay on, I think that’s why I love boots so much, you can’t usually walk out of them if too big. I want to try the Calla shoe line, rated highly for comfort, but so far they haven’t offered what I want now: knee-high boots.
This was the PERFECT wardrobe staple video. I feel like I’ve been looking for this video for so long. Explaining in detail and showing it on is so helpful. ✨
I'm so excited to create my own wardrobe. I always follow trends which means spending more money but thanks to your advices I'm more open to create mine.
Can you do a video on how you care for your clothes? for example, do you hang dry your jeans or put them in the dryer? do you dry clean sweaters? etc. thank you!!
This was so fun to watch. Really enjoyed all the pieces you shared. I will say though, the outfit you're wearing in the vid is my fav look! That everlane sweater is 10/10. Would love to also see an updated jewellery collection video. I'm still always admiring your stacks in every video!
I too have 4 seasons (& a very cold winter) here in Upstate NY. Button up or button down....you got me thinking lol & I think I usually say button up . I was 2nd guessing myself for a minute! Great wardrobe staples. Everything you mentioned I was like yep ✔. I so agree about the trousers....wrinkles be gone!! Oh the oatmeal oversized sweater...*chefs kiss* We for sure have very similar staples & taste! 👍✌
I’ve bought myself two pairs of Blundstone boots and I’m obsessed with them! They’re so comfortable and versatile! One is a black slightly heeled boot and then a rustic brown flat boot and I have worn nothing else since! So I definitely agree with boots, and everything else you’ve mentioned, being a great staple.
got curious and went back to your old videos... gosh the Tulum vlogs were 2 years ago!! time flies!! anyway love you gorgeous Lan, it's a pleasure to follow along through the years 💛
I love videos on wardrobe staples/basics, and style rules types, too. I don’t know why, really, I just do my own thing, but just love fashion styling so much.
My high school self would be so proud since I’ve been rocking the comfort look forever!! I have never been a believer in uncomfortable shoes or clothing just for fashion so yay me 😆 also love all of your staples especially the chunky black boots 👏🏽
I also love staples videos!! A tip I read online is usig a bakingsoda paste on stains. Maybe that will work on your bronzer stains. Just mix bakingsoda and water, rub it carefully on the stain, let it sit for 30 min and then do normal machine wash. It is also supposed to work on those sweat/deo stains that can ruin white shirts and t-shirts.
There are a lot of black loafers however the Gucci ones are so sleek and classic, it's on my wishlist because if there's one pair of shoes that represent my style, it's definitely the black loafers, it elevates basic pieces in my wardrobe.
This was perfect, exactly what I needed & was looking for! I also already have most of these staples, I just want to buy better quality for my basics - Thank you!!
Yay! Perfect timing for this video as I’m looking to update my wardrobe as I’ve had my last baby! Love your style so I am sure to find this super helpful ☺️
For white shirts, I use BanIt...get it as Home Hardware in Clarkson..Lorne Park...it is a bar of soap and if you wet it and scrub it on the area it removes everything...I use a gentle scrubber that I got from Lee Valley. It is white and comes in a package of several. They are gentle on the material. good luck...thanks
I’ve been looking & looking & looking for a proper capsule wardrobe that was just easy and full of variety and THANK YOU for making this video. I have a list of items and online stores to choose from ☺️
I've gotten rid of all of my thrifted winter coats for a Marmot parka. Dark gray, down to -70°F (where I live I have been able to test it in that weather and it holds up). I picked the higher down count because it gets so freaking cold here. So worth it! (I also hate Canada goose for what it represents socially so that's why I went with Marmot)
My understanding was that a button down shirt was specific to a collared shirt that has buttons to button down the collar. My husband used to sell suits and I feel like this is info I absorbed through osmosis years ago
Really enjoyed this video, as I need to get my staples back, because I've been bumming it out lately with yoga pants and oversized t-shirts, which is a no-no. Lol. I too go for comfort with feet wear. Other Things I want to say: First, I want to tell you that you shouldn't feel insecure about your body. It's beautiful, and I can say that when I was your age, I was always worried about my body, but shouldn't have. Secondly, I'd like to know how you do your hair and make up, because I totally suck as this. Thirdly, wanted to give you some things I've learned over the years. Take it if you want it: 1) If you're going to wear cut up jeans, make sure they're a lighter blue color, not dark, because it makes your legs look chopped up and less tall/slim. 2) All pleated pants are out and have been out of style for a long time, because they make you look like you're wearing a balloon under the crotch area and thighs. Don't have to be tight, but try buying jeans and trousers that aren't pleated, as they look better. 3) Tucking in shirts is out and has been for a long time. Yes, I too had to get out of tucking in shirts. Loved it. But nope. The 80s called me and told me to bring back their styles. Instead look to more form fitting sweaters and shirts around the waist, or shirts with belts or just add a belt. Belts are back in. Sweaters with room for the girls and then form fitting around the waistline is what's really attractive. 4) Colors are in! Should have some neutral coloring in your staples, but also a few bright colors that pop out attention. Your eyes are blue and you can take advantage of the color and get some yellow, orange, blue and pink in your wardrobe. Also with your medium brown hair, you can play with many brown colors and wear blue along with it to match your eyes too. Anyway, these are just suggestions, take it or leave it. I myself could listen to my own advice too, lol, and stop wearing yoga pants and oversized t-shirts, LOL!
I bought a similar, if not the same, trench coat at H&M this February!!! It was on sale for 29 pounds, or 40USD...and I remember thinking the same thing.

"We have four true seasons"
Scotland with our two seasons, rainy and COLD rainy: *SCREAMS INTO THE VOID*
Hello washington state 😂😂😂
In Mexico City mostly hot, now in winter we are at 24C during the day...and I looove sweaters, coats and scarfs 🙈😂🤷🏼♀️
The Netherlands too😂.
In Australia we have anywhere from 3-10 seasons I would say, depending which part of the country you live in too 😂
In Portugal, 4 true seasons too! 😉🇵🇹
Unfortunately I live in the US. So my wardrobe is “staying at home forever chic” because we are never getting out of this pandemic 😷
Same! Hopefully this vaccine roll-out will improve...
The pandemic is forever. Its like the flu but a different disease it isn't going away they say
My "going out" outfit is black nike leggings and black track jacket now lol it honestly makes me sad but it feels dumb to even wear something as "dressed up" as jeans
Right I’m living in H&M sweats and dare I say skims 😬 I’ve also had really good luck @ ThredUp!
haha I felt this! I try and dress up here and there to make myself feel better about the current situation.
Every time I watch a video about Allana’s wardrobe staples, I end up being obsessed with a particular style of clothing/piece and I’ll spend all day online shopping. 😅
For me, that obsession is a body suit. And I don’t have a body for it, but, Allana made me do it...
I started building my adult wardrobe last year and let me tell you this video is SO helpful. I love the try on and explaining HOW each piece can be paired in multiple ways!

Anyone know where her jeans are from that she's wearing in the vid?!? they're not tagged!!
omg i’m about to graduate college and keep building my “adult” wardrobe, i can’t wait to keep referring to this for that purpose😂
When i graduated I though the same, but then the pandemic hit and i still live in my campus tracksuit lol
Congrats on graduating college!!

For getting the bronzer out of your white clothes, pretreat it with the Oxi Clean Max Force Gel Stick and wash on hot - it works wonders!
I am loving the look of your engagement ring on the hand by itself!! makes it stand out so much more in all its radiant glory
Darling, you answered all my questions and gave me a true foundation I have needed all my life. I love your style and stay lovely! ❤

Honestly just so hype that you spell your name the same as I do. I’ve never met another Allana who spells it the same!
I love the Isabel Marant blouse and the vintage burberry trench coats. Such chic beautiful staples.
Of all the things I purchased two of the sweaters you have on in this video! As someone that lives in Buffalo, NY I need nice sweaters!

try MiMao shoes for black loafers. They are very well priced and come in many colors depending on the season.
Great staples! What are the jeans you are wearing in the video ???? Thanks 😊
I friggin love your fashion videos!!
‘Hmm, that’s cute.’ I think to myself as I sit in the same place I’ve been for the last 11 months in a tee shirt and joggers.
My understanding was that a button down shirt was specific to a collared shirt that has buttons to button down the collar. My husband used to sell suits and I feel like this is info I absorbed through osmosis years ago

That Isabel Marant black shirt is everything. Kind of sort of things me of the Karen Walker billow blouse that I'm undecided about

I say button up, but button down doesn't sound odd to me lol. ALSO, I have a very similar leg/hip shape to you and always get so frustrated with how jeans don't look like I'd like for them to, but you inspire me so much to buy jeans for my body shape because ultimately that's what is going to be the most flattering! Much needed video! And lastly I've loved watching your style journey over the years
Love your menswear inspired style!
Omg your hair in this video 😍 looks extra healthy and shiny and beautiful!
Haha I love listening to you talk about discovering bodysuits. I own like a lot of Aritzia bodysuits, the material is beautiful and the fits are so flattering. Recommend checking out the contour long-sleeve one!
I’d recommend Everlane black loafers and the L’intervalle square toe boots!!!

Love this video! Finally something for the grownass women! 😍

Loved watching this video and you slayed the pieces hun !! ✨🥰👏🏽 I’m starting University this year and this video gave me so much fashion inspiration. Thank you !!
Such beautiful pieces, great video!
I bought 3 of the zara bodysuits because if you 😅 love them!
I love all these staples. Especially those arket trousers. They are the perfect color and cut. I’m mad they don’t ship to the US. I know this might be an odd question but I love those hangers. Where from?
Ma'am you look gorgeous in this video and thank you for enabling my itch to shop LOL my style keeps evolving and I can't get over the guilt of wanting to reinvent my wardrobe
Growing up I n NY, I have always called it a “button down” shirt.
Same here!
