I'm more of a New World smoker than Cuban. In terms of quality I personally find then like for like, you'll either get a great one, an ok one or a poor one on both sides. The problem with Cubans however is the fact they're more expensive and it's all because Cubans are seen as the "pinnacle" of cigars when really, certainly for me personally, they're no better than New Worlds. Plus as you say, with New Worlds you get more tobacco varieties which opens up a whole plethora of flavour profiles
My favourite leaf is Dominican Olor. I like it so much I often roll a cigarillo out of one leaf.
