Its hurtful when you loose a person who really loved you and was sincere towards you. The emperor squandered the love he received from Ruyi. She was broken so bad by him that she no longer wanted ties to him, even in death. The emperor needed to feel regret and that's what woke him up in the end.
Most teary eyed scene.... She died alone with no one, except her close servant. The emptiness, desolation and heartache that the Empress feels it's heartbreaking. That's why she cuts her hair and portrait with the Emperor so that when she dies she will free in after life.
Actually, I think she died peacefully. She died with a friend who understands her, and she is leaving the emptiness, desolation and heartache the palace had created.
It doesn't matter if you have a castle with servant and all if you don't have love and respect , the realization that you can love a simple man that love her and respect and the sacrifice that he did for her give her strength to die with dignity not in the hands of her husband.

This drama is a favorite of mine. Many scenes were heart wrenching to watch. The emperor was going through a mid life crisis. Indulging in beautiful women,etc. while his true companion was forsaken. He spent his golden years alone and with deep regret. At times I literally hated his character. The actors were just brilliant!
The bad thing about ruyi is that she didn't want him to be faithful with his body but with his heart but that also wandered away and what is left is regret
Well based on the show, she did not want to be an empress even in death. That is why when she passed away, he removed her from all historical texts and removed all traces of her. She wasn't buried as an empress and her funeral was not that of an empress. She even burned her own part of their painting commemorating them as official wife and husband when she ascended and became the empress. In the end he gave her what she wanted, to be free from being an empress. She also caused public scrutiny and that also affected what the emperor had to do, as it was publicly seen that she cut her hair to curse him and the empress dowager, when in reality she did it to divorce him and cut all ties with him.
Myrtle Snow it’s not clear whether she did it to curse him or to divorce him but it was clear that she was stripped of all of authority as an empress and was treated as an Low rank concubine with the least money and food despite still having her title as an empress.
Love this movie so much and so powerful also. Had such an amazing story line of the Emperor and Empress and the love they had for each other. So sad and emotional also but the ending was so beautiful.

He didn't know Rui was sick, and he only knew that she was confining herself so that she won't be able to see him, and then she died. Good thing though, before Rui died, the main concubine was punished for her sins. Then the emperor tried to get closer to Rui again by visiting her and inviting her out. But she refuses Everytime. There is this clip that Rui cut her image out off the painting with the emperor. I think at that moment, Rui is taking revenge on him and want him to not remember her for the rest of his life, she refuse to be with him even in the same picture. That is also a very satisfying event for me. Then the emperor wants it to be restored but, thanks a lot the painter can't. ❤️ No problem. This drama is a favorite of mine. Many scenes were heart wrenching to watch. The emperor was going through a mid life crisis. Indulging in beautiful women,etc. while his true companion was forsaken. He spent his golden years alone and with deep regret. At times I literally hated his character. The actors were just brilliant!
All cried for Ruyi at funeral and they feel the loss as compared to the first empress.

如懿其實有跟渣龍說，老娘心已死，生命也快到盡頭了，但渣渣龍聽不懂，只能說活該。

第一次看只覺得悲涼，並沒有多少情感，，第二次看直接看到我淚崩，故人已逝，再多的懊悔都換不回，宮中那位嬪妃不是薨逝了皇帝才來嘆息，只能說如今的懊悔是皇帝自己找的
Love this movie so much and so powerful also. Had such an amazing story line of the Emperor and Empress and the love they had for each other. So sad and emotional also but the ending was so beautiful.

The heart wrenching scenes..Ruyi loved the emperor till the end but knew that emperor couldn't show his love to anyone. She choose to cut all the ties set herself free by cutting the picture of her with the emperor so that he wouldn't be burdened with painful memory. Yet the emperor kept her in his heart till he died..

I of course know back then..the kings and emperor had tons of consorts and concubines..so, I'm sure the pain from dealing with that came into play. @@heatherk4670 he loves her, I can give him that. They are childhood sweet hearts. BUT! As time goes on (3/4 of the story) he starts to abuse her. He hits her, push her and say harsh things to her. Gosh! Rui (the Empress) only thought of his well being and the harem, but this Emperor think the other way, thanks to his other bad consorts' whispering.

Did he ever at any point, realise that it was just gossip and she truly wasn't horrible like the concubines and consorts tried to make her out to be? @@heatherk4670 yes he did feel bit remorse and confuse in this clip. I think he's still triying to absorb that she is dead here and he's lost. He didn't know Rui was sick, and he only knew that she was confining herself so that she won't be able to see him, and then she died. Good thing though, before Rui died, the main concubine was punished for her sins. Then the emperor tried to get closer to Rui again by visiting her and inviting her out. But she refuses Everytime.
There is this clip that Rui cut her image out off the painting with the emperor. I think at that moment, Rui is taking revenge on him and want him to not remember her for the rest of his life, she refuse to be with him even in the same picture. That is also a very satisfying event for me.
Then the emperor wants it to be restored but, thanks a lot the painter can't. ❤️

好難過，每次看都哭的比渣隆難過
雖然渣隆真的很渣，渣到想從手機裡摳出來打死，但是如懿卻是他唯一一個，他從開始到最後，都依然是喊著她名字的人，即便是斷髮那一刻，他脫口而出的不是皇后，而是如懿~也許，這就是乾隆在意她，而自己卻不知道，只是當時的他已經迷失了…
看了多遍以後才漸漸發現，自己也和曾經的乾隆一樣，對所愛的家人態度特別壞，任性的時候六親不認，直到家人突然走了，才知道自己原來不能沒有他，活在後悔中，只可惜當時的我並不懂…或許就像香見說的，因為皇帝知道，無論怎樣，如懿都會一直陪在他身邊，所以，忘了珍惜…
越是親近的人，越容易忘了珍惜。而且不讓如懿跟他合葬，也是要放她自由，不把她困在那個讓她厭煩疲倦的后位上
