Moving to Spain in August and this is reassuring me it will all be ok ❤️ I’ve watched all your spain videos and can’t wait for more! I loved watching the videos in Spanish because you speak in a good Madrileño accent but at a slower pace so I could practice my listening 🙌🏻
as a local here, dont focus so hard in the dialect/accent, instead try your best on vocabulary, a lot of expressions you will get just by chatting so no need to rush that either.

Yes indeedy, you sure can have an amazing time in Madrid, one of the most vibrant cosmopolitan cities in Europe, but you´re gonna need a lot more than 1000 euros...
100% agree. It reminds me to a comment I saw in a different video (and different youtuber) talking about how much she wanted to live in Spain (being from Ireland) I was like "no, seriously, you want to spend your holidays here and surely you think our everyday life is like your holidays, but not at all. You don't want to live here then XD"
I teach Spanish to some English and Dutch people who live in my village. I do it in my free time and it is only some extra pocket money, so I am quite cheap, in another hand, the cheaper you are, the more student you get. Well, in general the price for a lesson is from 15 to 20 Euros per hour, private lessons. For groups it can be cheaper.
you should do a video about conintueing your education abroad- getting a master's, etc. How does that work if you are not yet fluent- are English programs available and would you recommend them? Is getting a job hard without being fluent first? Once you get your Master's in Spain, does it have any value in the States? etc.
@@RachelAnne_ But, in the context you say it, you are right. The "abono joven" includes all trips in public transport from Madrid to Toledo and Guadalajara capitals, and some villages of Toledo and Guadalajara provinces, in spite of Toledo and Guadalajara being in Castilla la Mamcha, not in Madrid Autonomous Comunity.
Thanks for this video! I'm an incoming aux & will be in madrid on september. I was wondering, as a first year, how/where do you find kids to teach for private lessons? Would the school be able to help and refer you to one? 🙂
hi, how exciting!! so I actually got my first few from some auxes who were giving away their classes, which you may find on the aux pages. people leave madrid or they just want to give away classes to have more free time. then from there, I got recommendations, and ended up getting a lot more students. I didn't get any from my school directly, but that is definitely something you could talk to your bilingual coordinator about!
If you can live on €1000/month that is actually tutorial mode. That's the cost of rent alone for a 1bdr apartment where I live, plus you dont need a car there.
Provinces you can look at too near Madrid: Guadalajara is a provincia that connects with Madrid by train, just in case you would like to see more options. Toledo is also near, the northest part, but there's only buses to Madrid from there, so it takes longer and there are less. There're also Avila and Soria, but forget about them if you have to go to Madrid everyday 😅
Thank you for all the info!! Now, i was wondering if you could say what your job was or is about. It would be so helpful to have some options to consider when looking for a job to occupy myself while studying in Spain.

550 a high rent for a room in Madrid? I used to share a flat with other 2 girls in Madrid and we paid 500e each, the total rent of the flat was 1500e in the centre, near our jobs in a government office, (we are “funcionarias”) No lower prices than that in the centre

My daughter will move in Madrid next year for 2 years as a student , and I will like if you can to name a few decent areas to look for a room or apart to share with another girl to pay maxim 500€ per person! Thank you!
You can find a nice room anywhere in Madrid for that price! I think the best neighborhoods for students are Malasaña, Chamberi, Moncloa, and Arguelles 🤍
Love your channel haha but to say that 1000 € is a pretty good salary in Spain 😅.... I mean it is more common than what we would like to admit but I honestly think thay everyone in Spain with this salary will feel ripped off
I agree that it is unfair, especially for people who have been working for multiple years. But thankfully, 1000 euros can get you by in Spain and you can live off of it :) versus in the US, unfortunately you would not be able to survive with $1000 or $1200
christine cleavest true!! But some problems aren’t as well paid, for example BEDA is 24 hrs a week earning approx 1050€ :( plus planning time, waiting during breaks, etc so it adds up to 35 hrs atleast in the school (in my case). but working for the ministry, it is a great salary in terms of hours:pay. Maybe I’ll do a video explaining these differences!
@@RachelAnne_ I do 24 hours with BEDA ;) after taxes and deductions it's about 1109, the tax return is a nice if small bonus. Lol! I also live in studio by myself for less than 500, it's less 10 minutes (25 if I walk) outside of the center. I found my place on mil anuncios, a site that is often overlooked. Madrid is definitely more expensive than other cities but as you mentioned depending on your lifestyle and how you manage your resources it is doable and you can enjoy.
Well, giving that Madrid is not a cheap place, 1000 euros seem very little. A single house in the city centre can cost 1000 euros or more of that and still be a very small house, even for Spanish standards. Not to mention the higher prices of everything there...
My daughter, almost 15, wants to work really bad but can't because of her age. We live in Paris. She asks my wife and I constantly to give her ideas. I think your idea of private lessons would work great with her. She is a native speaker, smart, in the 10th grade and is very friendly which would help online. How do you find private lessons or teach online? Thank you very much.
Are you able to do all those lessons without having to become an "autónomo"? I mean you don't have to pay the IVA for the money you get from those lessons? Just curious.

Hi Rachel, I think the way you put it is quite misleading. 1k/month may work for a while for students and young people, but it is NOT considered a good salary in Spain, it is in fact the legal minimum. Unfortunately, there are many people who earn that or less, but I doubt that they are very happy with their economy.
Hi! I never said 1k is a good salary. This video is directed towards people wanting to be auxiliares de conversaciones for a limited time here in Spain. It’s to help them understand the difference between 1k a month in Spain and 1k a month in the US, which would be absolutely impossible to live off for any amount of time, vs in Spain is unsustainable for the long term, which I highlighted in the video, but it IS possible with a certain, non-luxury permitting lifestyle.
@@RachelAnne_ I understand, someone sent me this video as an argument to be able to move to Spain with a very low salary and I thought... you can do it for fun for a couple of years... but eventually you will want to kill yourself :D
I am going to write this in english because the video is in english.. 😅 Overall the video was great except... 1.000€ is not a good salary anywhere in Spain, in fact, the legal minimun wage in 2021 for a full time job (8 hours) is 950€ (gross, you have to tske social security and other taxes from that amount) a month (on 14 payments a year, 12 months and two extra payments, usually june and december)... so those 1.000€ is basically the lowest amount they can pay you for a full time job.
@@breannaverburgt5824 I know, my ex girlfriend worked as an auxiliar de conversación, but in the video she doesn't say (or at least I don't recall hearing it) that she only works 16 hours a week. Maybe you know from previous videos, as I did, but just watching this video alone it can mislead some people.
¡Saludos!
That's true, but she was talking about the "abono joven", and with this bill you can also travel to Toledo, Guadalajara, and some other towns and villages in Castilla la Mancha: Azuqueca, Tarancón, Seseña, Valmojado... If you are older than 26, this places are in the E1 or E2 zones.
You only forgot to say that there's no jobs in Madrid..... I'm Spanish live in Madrid and have to live on the outskirts with my mother cause unemployment is some of the highest in Europe or the world
@Rachel Anne - Question: With Spain being so vast, varied and beautiful... Why did you chose to live in the absolute worst shithole in this country? :S:S
The worst thing about Spain is the cost of electricity and gas fortunately Biden is levelling the playing field on that matter heheh food is so cheap in Spain I lived 6 years in the States just came back and I was pleasantly suprised
Now all people that went to Madrid for erasmus: 1000€? You can live a rich peoples life there and actually go out to real restaurants not only tapas 😂 Nice video and good explanations.
Hola!

I agree that it is unfair, especially for people who have been working for multiple years. But thankfully, 1000 euros can get you by in Spain and you can live off of it :) versus in the US, unfortunately you would not be able to survive with $1000 or $1200
@@RachelAnne_ Totally. A studio here in Sw Florida will probably cost u$ 800 alone.
Thanks Rachel !!! Great video.
But remember this is for working 16 hours a week, with the free time you can easily supplement if you have to.
christine cleavest true!!
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO
YOURE SO WELCOME🤍
what is the best place to search for apartments in Madrid ?
Hola Rachel!
How much did you charge for private lessons? And were you TEFL certified?
Hi everyone, I am moving to spain in 5 months. Do any of you have suggestions of website where I could look up rentals for 6months ?:)
Idealista app
Super helpful : )
Are you able to do all those lessons without having to become an "autónomo"? I mean you don't have to pay the IVA for the money you get from those lessons? Just curious.
Te gusta España ? Saludos de un español 🇪🇸
What about Health Insurance?
Can you make a vid on how to get private lessons?
Feliz día de independencia 🥳🥳
Gracias!!☺️
Overall the video was great except...
But this is for a job working 16 hours per week earning 1000 per month, no taxes taken out. They aren't working 8 hours a day.
I didn't know you used to make videos in english
just 120? imposible....
¡Saludos!
@@RachelAnne_ Estaré atento, pues, a tus nuevas aventuras.
Eres Argentina?.
Love it
Spoiler: no
That's true, but she was talking about the "abono joven", and with this bill you can also travel to Toledo, Guadalajara, and some other towns and villages in Castilla la Mancha: Azuqueca, Tarancón, Seseña, Valmojado... If you are older than 26, this places are in the E1 or E2 zones.
435 por una habitación
El Escorial es muy caro
You only forgot to say that there's no jobs in Madrid.....
I'm Spanish live in Madrid and have to live on the outskirts with my mother cause unemployment is some of the highest in Europe or the world
For those of you who have a life to live, the information you want to hear starts at 2:45, after all the introductory palavering.
Molas mas cuando hablas en castellano jejjeje😜
@Rachel Anne - Question: With Spain being so vast, varied and beautiful... Why did you chose to live in the absolute worst shithole in this country? :S:S
Rachel Ann!!!!!!
@@RachelAnne_ 🥰🥰
@@RachelAnne_ qué bueno para escucharte 👏👏👏👏
The worst thing about Spain is the cost of electricity and gas fortunately Biden is levelling the playing field on that matter heheh food is so cheap in Spain I lived 6 years in the States just came back and I was pleasantly suprised
Madrid es caro
Este vídeo es bien triste. Y creo que no pagas impuestos. A Hacienda le interesa esto...
Where is your texan's accent? 😜
Now all people that went to Madrid for erasmus: 1000€? You can live a rich peoples life there and actually go out to real restaurants not only tapas 😂
Nice video and good explanations.
Hola!
