    As a lifelong YuGiOh! Fan of 30 years old, I can tell you that 1. 4Kids dubbed like half of YuGiOh! To make it super dumb, but 2. The Heart of the Cards thing is outright super dumb, but as a kid, the concept of the Heart of the Cards and friendship beating everything the world throws at you was super cool and endearing and made the world not seem so sucky. As an adult it just sounds ridiculous, but the idea that your cards could hear your plea when Duel Monsters in the YuGiOh! World is like 99% Life-Or-Death made it like, IF YOU REALLY CARE AND PUT YOUR MIND TO IT, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
    Also, from the clips I’m seeing, they have the series of events of the show waaaay out of order, they don’t meet Mai until they’re all IN THE TOURNAMENT to win Joey the money and actually they’re also there to get Yugi’s grandpa’s soul back but that’s a whole other Thing.
    On top of all of this, this movie uses actual, real-life YuGiOh card game rules from what I can tell. The show and manga? They literally make shit up 99% of the time. It’ll be, Yugi will just MAGICALLY pull a card that does EXACTLY what he needs it to at the last second despite us never seeing this card in his deck before. And it’ll do SUPER niche things that he couldn’t have POSSIBLY known were important to include in his deck for the opponent he’s facing, it’s hilarious.
    And one more: In real life, there’s like 8 million Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards, so nah, they ain’t rare, but in the series, there’s literally only 4 that have ever been printed, Seto Kaiba has 3 and Grandpa has 1, and he takes grandpa’s and tears it in half (AND NO SHIT GRANDPA TAPES IT BACK TOGETHER LATER, IM NOT JOKING IT MAKES A REAPPEARANCE!)

    Haven't watched the full video of Time to Duel yet, but from the clips you used, yes that's how the game is played. I don't recognize all of the card names, but Harpy's Feather Duster does indeed destroy all magic and trap cards on your opponent's side of the field, and everything that happens seems to make sense. The thing with characters explaining what the cards do is kind of necessary because it is a show based around a card game, and it's necessary for the viewer (and presumably the other player) to know what's going on.
    The reason why Kaiba doesn't use a fourth Blue Eyes White Dragon is because the rules limit players to a maximum of 3 copies of the same card in a deck.
    Edit: It's actually shocking how Groo appears to not have ever attempted a second take with dialogue. At 1:10:13, he actually says the line "none of the cards in my grandfather are cheap" and totally omits the word deck, and just left it in. In the same take, he mispronounces malevolent as "melovent."

In the manga, that dude burned for realsies and Yami was just straight-up killing people sometimes. In Season 0, the murders were toned down to delusions, to my disappointment. About the "very original" Yu-Gi-Oh! anime AKA "season 0": It was made by Toei Animation in 1998 and was, like the manga it was based off, a game/riddle-themed mystery series where Yugi gets possessed by Yami Yugi, who then challenges enemies into matches which are not always, but include card games. According to Yugipedia: "Manga plots were re-written so that they could take up an entire episode's [...] time, and the level of violence was reduced." Meaning, the manga is even wilder.

    54:16 the reason why the prize is so high but the entry fee is peanuts is because Kaiba, the guy who beats the shit out of the Grandpa, is looking for cool card for his collection, and in the actual show, they all go to his private island so he can steal their cards basically. He basically takes the tech his dad's company is making in order to do all the holographic weird 3d Tupac shit happen. He owns all the tech but doesn't own the actual rights to the game, which is owned by the villain of the first season arch.
    I forget what happens after that or why Kaiba can't get his dad to get Pegasus to run off a sheet of all the power cards his kid wants and is willing to pay like ridiculous money to get.

    The thugs that attack Fireboi tell him to get away from the girl as if they're worried he's assaulting her. Then they abduct her. That makes sense.

    • @glorygloryholeallelujah
      @glorygloryholeallelujah 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah *THAT’s* the most nonsensical part of that scene…
      Not the fact that a dude who can literally summon fireballs at-will, can’t think of a way to defend himself.
      So he simply lays down, let’s himself get totally shithoused and then watches them abduct/assault the chick he was _JUST_ using his fire powers to “warm up”!! 😂

    (Former) YGO fan right here. I even had one of those arm things (for cosplay. I never actually played the game so I can't tell you if the rules are accurate in this movie). This Yu Gi Groo movie looks amazing. I laughed until I cried when the green wolf spat whatever that was from its mouth. 10/10, would recommend.

    I am so happy you've covered Stephen Groo again , I freaking adore his movies and I discovered them through this channel. I am being absolutley serious that The Unexpected Race is one of my favorite movies of all time, it's so ridiculous and fun. These movies feel like they've been written by a twelve year old, but that's not a bad thing to me, I find it really endearing.
