- James O'Brien reacts to the US Election TV Debate as Democrat nominee Joe Biden went head-to-head with Donald Trump.
The two clashed on a number of issues, but it was Biden's rambling and 'incoherent' performance which took centre stage in the end.
The US President appeared to forget what he was trying to say on several occasions, and at times spoke incomprehensibly - with his own Democrat colleagues expressing deep concern in the aftermath.
'I don't think he can beat Donald Trump if he continues to behave like that for the next six months', James admits.
He adds: 'Everyone knows how disgusting Donald Trump is, so when he stands up, it's dog bites man... Joe Biden stands up and it's man bites dog.'

Personally, I hold the American media accountable for prioritizing ratings over facts, decency, and integrity, among other values. This focus on sensationalism and entertainment over accurate, ethical reporting has significant consequences for the public's trust and the quality of information we receive.
If they were interested in facts and decency, Biden would have never been elected nor been VP. A deep dive into his history shows a trail of questionable transactions to bribery to influence pedaling. The media ignored all of his flaws to get Biden elected. Now that these flaws can't be hidden, everyone is in shock. They have always been there, the media just didn't care.

They should have pressed for moderator fact checking OR been prepared to have Biden himself correct the record real time (honestly a big ask for anyone). Either way I feel it's an own goal for the Biden campaign. They initiated calling for this debate early as well!
Trump gave what was probably the most muted performance of his political career and gave nothing but easy options for calling out lies and Biden just couldn't manage anything.

Entitlement and deciding that it's easier to threaten their voters with the other party than take a stand for their own values. The Ds have done so much, but when it's campaign time it seems like more than half their messaging is "something bad happens if you don't vote for us. Even if you vote third party. So vote for us or else." Same for the Rs minus the accomplishments (at least that I want to see).
@@Chiscringle I think that's accurate. They are also unwilling to make a hard decision on who can win vs who has "seniority". Eg, at least to me, I could see using a different and far more inspirational VP pick for BIden as a way out of this situation. The bulk of voters don't want either candidate. Seeing the most likely other option as the DNC VP taking over at some point during the term could actually pull voters over. In any case, assuming my view were completely valid, the deep core DNC people would never dare to ask Harris to step aside to give the DNC a better chance. "She is in the seat, so she is the best choice. Here are your pom poms." That's a big issue I have with the DNC. There definitely is a back room where they figure out what everyone else "really wants." Still far, far better than the performative politics GQP but ugh.. it's painful sometimes :(

Well, the facts were argued in court and Trump was found to have done exactly that (Colorado - the attempt to take Trump off the ballot was rejected, but in giving the verdict made clear that the petitioners had established that Trump had engaged in an insurrection through incitement). American here. They were both very embarrassing in different ways. But. If you are going to tke Biden to task for his speaking. The man has a childhood stutter that comes out. Came out when he was younger as wel. As a stutterer as well. This is the reason I don't like to speak in public. Criticism and stares.

It isn't just the stutter though. Certainly some people are unfairly criticising him for it, but the substance of what he is saying doesn't make sense, either. Nor does he look vital and healthy overall.

Biden should have had prepared a proper “heir” 4 years ago. Harris is very disliked (in part for being a woman, in part for being Black, in part for being a personality as abrasive as Trump but this is disliked in women and liked in men).
She's also disliked by black people, as she seems to have an issue with black men.
Based on pushing for far heavier sentences on the same crimes, so she's a terrible choice, basically 0 fan base.

Honestly as somone who’s been a bit too online, I watched his performance without even thinking that he was unusually fragile and incoherent. He’s been exactly like this for at least 2 years.
I empathize with Joe, as I'm ageing and slow spoken myself but I'm regularly told that I'm as sharp as ever, I expect that Joe is too. His slowness of speech is in no way a true representation of how his mind functions. He does not, as a president, have to turn on a sixpence, he does not have to make, ever, decisions on a whim. He is part of a team. The choice between the two is still clear for those that are clear minded themselves.
Consider his performance over recent years, not just over 75 minutes. We all have moments of fatigue. Again, Trump or Biden?
Can he last another 4 years? I don't know, will Trump? Will any of us?
Please don't think that Trump is any healthier or that he has Biden's intellect or compassion.
