I got one on PC. And It's still fun. That game gave me the first taste of REAL rallying, and how you simulate rallying. Oh, How I miss the 90's WRC. :P
my father and me used to play this game all day and all night! no sleep! it was sooo awesome *.* I still have it but I used to love it more when I was a kid :) good times...
Man there underarting this game, so many good things. 1) The tracks- that had so much character u could really get in tune and remember nearly every corner. Wounderful charactis for each country, the jumps and flatout out back section in Australia where awesome.. todays genric "DirT" lacks 2) The physics much better than Dirt 2, even if it did feel a little robotic in crashes sometimes...I really loved this game..I think the indo stages where hardest for me but i beat the game.
All of a sudden curious about PS1 after GT posting. Colin McCrae may be not be as good as GT but these two driving games highlight something surprising to those of us who never owned a Sony Playstation One. Another great review. I rate this review higher than the GT one because its definately a BEER! classic and Dave suggests the Dreamcast could be used as a landmine.
For everyone complaining about DIRT games, did it ever occur to you that by making a subset of the series Codemasters wanted to differentiate it from the other games? DIRT is not a replacement but an addition to the series. Who's to say a traditional Colin McRae game won't show up in the future? DIRT 2 is fantastic game, easily my favourite driving game. I love the other games in the Colin McRae series, but the awesome feeling you get sliding round corners, clearing jumps etc. can't be beat :)
I thought this game was unbelievable back when it first came out! Obviously now the graphics you get are far better but this game will always be a classic.
what an excellent game it was a decado age. I can remember tha my all-time favourite was the lancer (just as nowadays) and I always played it with a steering wheel : ) go(o)d times
The graphics don't matter, what matters is the game. For instance, this is the game I used to learn how to drive. And when I got to driving school, the instructor had to admit and say: "you drive pretty well already". And I had never touched a steering wheel before. Also, there is more than rally mode, like the practice school where one learns all kinds of necessary maneuvers. And 10 years later, what do you think was more useful to me today... the graphics or what I learned while playing?
@rub1k Nope, I decided to get working CMR1 on WIN Xp with the following parametres: Processor Intel Core Duo 2.6 ghz, video - NVIDIA 8500GT 256 MB and 4 GB of RAM. Sorry for my bad english.
Maybe because this game came out on the PS1 before the Xbox was even released. Also, graphics aren't important because you're not going to play a game because it looks nice but yet that it's fun to play.
This game was best fun from CollinMcRae Rallys i ever seen. We had competitions on who would wreck the car on a track faster. It was amasing to play it. Why other CMRRs are different??
haha i loved this game. Me and my dad used to think the graphics were amazing haha mind you my dad used to think the graphics on pacman were good back in the 80s
"If you die can i have your Dreamcast?" :D You guys are hilarious! I love to see those classic games again :)
I played this on the PC one Christmas with my dad and it was the best game time we'd spent together since Space Invaders 😀.
childhood memories this is the first playstaion game i ever played i was about 5-6 years old when i played this ah good times :)
"Er, if you die can I have your Dreamcast?"
"No"
I got one on PC.

I was 19 when i first played V-Rally and 18 when i played Gran Turismo and this game is up with those two.
I remember this game! I had it for my PS1 but it stopped working for no apparent reason-it wasn't scratched or anything. I loved it. :'(

Colin McRae Rally had some really fun games. I even had it on my GBA for a while, and was very impressed with the gameplay and graphics.
Good video. Keep them coming buddy.
Ah I still remember playing this game with a racing wheel in split screen. SO AWESOME :)
Oh the days when the background built up as you got closer to it :)
i was 4 when my grandad gave me his ps1... my dad bought me a racing wheel and this game and i played it non stop for a month
I remember this game, I played it all the time, this and Interstate '76 which came bundled with it
I agree. We need more games featuring the Geo Metro. That's a real man's car.

The first game I ever played. Great to see it again.
i remember this i thought the graphics then was unbelivable but look now look at where pc's and gamesystems are in such a short time mind blowing
The flute song in the first few seconds (as the "The Game Room logo" spins in) is oddly endearing. Anybody know the name or where it's from?
I thought this game was unbelievable back when it first came out! Obviously now the graphics you get are far better but this game will always be a classic.
greatest rally game of all time. im gunna buy it on pc now!
brucelee sega rally says hello.
what an excellent game it was a decado age. I can remember tha my all-time favourite was the lancer (just as nowadays) and I always played it with a steering wheel : ) go(o)d times
I played this a few weeks ago, it's still pretty good.
"Can't powerslide into people" That one had me laughing
This was my first game on psx. We spent much time with brother playing cmr1... Greate movie 5/5

yes I still got my colin mcrae 1 and 2 on my psone there are a lot of driving games on ps1 but these were my fav
This game blew me away in 1998. Best driving game on PS1 along with TOCA 2.
This taught me how to drive well in the snow.
Oh man ; _ ; i can remember playing this when i was 7.... as if it was that long ago.
8 Years past like one day... I feel it was like yesterday :(
Such a great game. I liked it more than GT1 and it so much better than Dirt 1/2 or 3.
OMG just by looking at it i can tell the driving is way better than in any driving game except for the new dirt series maybe
man i really, really, really love this game!!!

i'll try and see if it runs on win7
RIP Colin McCrae
Legend.
cmr 2.0 was the best racing game for long time, i stil play it too in my ps2.
I remember Having this game, It was pretty good.
Best Game ever! They should make a remake with the same cars and tracks, but with better graphics!
i could play this all day but i only have dirt 2 now so i just keep playing the rally track in croatia.
The graphics don't matter, what matters is the game.

Since you did Colin McRae Rally back then, will you be doing Colin McRae: DiRT now?
This brings back memories from a few years ago lol.
Kickass game but trying to steer it with a steering wheel is ass lol!
cool game, but i think it would of been cooler if it came out on Sega Saturn. WTF? There is an audio preview? That scared the shit out of me.
@rub1k Nope, I decided to get working CMR1 on WIN Xp with the following parametres: Processor Intel Core Duo 2.6 ghz, video - NVIDIA 8500GT 256 MB and 4 GB of RAM.
Sorry for my bad english.
This game sucked all the adrenaline within me..
But in the end and after long time, I started to beat my own time trials..
Best Rally game ever made.
RIP Colin McRae
I and my dad play this game on PC!
True, the newer Colin McRae titles lack the true passion of racing.
A great game and looks better that I thought it would.
i still play this regularly on my modded psp, i had dirt played it once and got rid this colin mcrae is way better,
Damn, imagine if Colin were still here today... maybe the newer games might have been good?
Isso sim que é um jogo de corrida DECENTE! Jogo bom de verdade. Gráficos sensacionais (pra época) e jogabilidade absolutamente excelente!
This game is stil one of the best (funniest) handling rallygames, and the graphics isnt that bad even in 2010.
Maybe because this game came out on the PS1 before the Xbox was even released. Also, graphics aren't important because you're not going to play a game because it looks nice but yet that it's fun to play.
I used to have this game!
Holy shit. I remember this.
The first game was in the end of 1999 in the US, but in the UK it was in 1998, I think.
this game was the best colin mcrae rally of all time and have the rally school :D
8 countries!!!!!???? We hadn't even discovered that many that long ago!!!!!! :O
This game was best fun from CollinMcRae Rallys i ever seen. We had competitions on who would wreck the car on a track faster. It was amasing to play it. Why other CMRRs are different??
I LOVED THAT GAME!!!
I swear we got this game in 1998. Wicked game though.

CGR HD would love Grid. Because Grid is awesome.
When I was a kid, this looked 1080p to me.
Haha! I remember playing this for ages, jesus, I found your helper man so annoying "Bank right." "Hairpin".
ARRRGGGHHHHH!
This was recorded in 2000, but dave moved out off Pittsburgh or somethin. Watch the "Combat" review for Atari 2600. It's all explained there.
R.I.P. Colin McRae
my second playstation game
Only racing game i bought 4 my ps1 was Mc rae rally 2.. Awesome.. Nearly a decade later only racing game i bought 4 my ps3.. Dirt 3
i dunno, dirt was good, but it had that knobend travis pastrana and didnt really focus on rallying alone, which i would prefer
Yeah the other ones changed the basic game engine, and arent as big! Never understood why V-Rally was popular. The cars just looked weird...
