I'm also a PhD student and I've just started TA-ing for the first time, so this video was so nice to watch! And I'm also currently reading Babel, haha! Am loving it so far :)
I just found your channel a few weeks ago through Katherine Weiss channel and I’m really enjoying all of your content. I started my PhD in January of this year and it’s been kind of lonely due to COVID restrictions still being in place on and off throughout the spring semester. Finding content I can relate to on TH-cam has really helped a lot! So happy to see your excitement about teaching, these are the types of instructors we need at universities!! While I’m happy to be taking a break from teaching during my PhD (I’ve been an adjunct professor for about seven years) I also know that I will miss the interactions with students!!
I just finished the Poppy War series and I cannot wait to pick up Babel! Keep us updated on your thoughts, and congrats on starting your teaching fellowship!
Hello! I was trying to find more information about being a teaching fellow at Yale, as that is what I will be doing in the fall this year. Do we have any say about what courses Yale department assigns us to? Do we have to develop a learning plan, gather relevant texts for the students, and or create/design a syllabus? Do the professors help you out, or are you doing most of the teaching? Additionally, is there a set guideline of things that you have to teach for that course/subject so you can at least have a bare bones guideline to follow when you create the lesson plan? Is it going to be the same group of students that you teach every time? Is it basically just being like a professor? Do you have to create assignments and also grade them too? Thanks so much for the video, not really helps me out. There isn't much personal experiences I've seen online about being a TF for Yale (compared to being a TA, which I'm pretty sure is different from a TF).

@@sweeeeeet85 @theredheadacademic same. I'm considering getting a history PhD but I've been holding off because the chances of getting a professor position is so low. I'd be curious to know the alternatives.
@@sweeeeeet85 I watched a previous video of her saying she intends to apply to law school after her PhD to become a practicing civil rights attorney (idk if that’s still her plan given the fact that she has a 6figure business as a PhD student).

Congrats on your first day of teaching! So exciting 🎉
Inspiring post!
I have just finished Babel. This book has left a significant resonance in my soul.
Happy birthday, fellow Virgo!
It seems really interesting that there is a visual analysis of primary sources. I wonder what how much language is used for History.
Loved this Kaelyn!
