Another great video Stewart. The Olympus camera’s definitely look like they are a good choice for macro. Have been considering one for a while now and finally decided to sell my current macro setup to give M43 a go.

I just found your channel and this video when browsing videos of the M1 Mark 2. I always wanted to get into macro but never really clicked with me when I tried Canon or Fuji but this setup looks so fun and easy to carry around. What lens are you using with your OM?
Great video and pictures Stewart! I am impressed! I use a Lumix G9 + the Olympus 60mm for macrophotography. I do need to get a better diffuser. Will look into that one. Thanks!
Hi Stewart, can you please tell me which lens you were using for this macro shoot and what is the specific model DCR 250 for Olympus lens? I love your macro and would like to try it with the right gear. Also what model is the flash diffuser? Thank you in advance Stewart!
Some great shots Stewart, don't forget you can also stack in camera up to 15 images so you don't need to wait until you get back to the computer to see if ithe stack worked out
Can you really stack 15 shots with this body? According to one of the spec sites it says: "For the E-M1X and the E-M1 Mark III you can adjust the number of stacked shots from 3 to 15. For other models the camera will stack 8 images."@@StewartWoodArt
Great video. Question i got the mark ii with the godox v350o but the shutter speed drops to 1/30 and not 1/50. Do u need to change some Setting to get 1/50
Great video Stewart. By the way, I purchased your summer background pictures and printed them. Also, tried one of them, the images turned out great. It’s a beautiful collection you got there. Thank you! I’m also keeping my Olympus camera and returning my RF 100 2.8, such a heavy weight compared to Olympus.
Thanks Stewart. Great images. However I think you may have used stacking and bracketing incorrectly….at one point in video. None the less please keep making these videos really good.
Great video Steward. What do you think about focus bracketing between Oly and Canon R5 I saw you also tested before? Does it is only a cost difference or using Oly there are much more difference in the field? Thank you for your answer
Budget was a big factor however, the R5 can’t use flash while focus bracketing. Plus the there are other factors like the sensor size that makes the M43 camera great for macro photography.
Great video and beautiful shots. Can I ask you, how did you attach Raynox 250 to Olympus 60mm? Plastic clip in my Raynox is wider than front of 60mm so actually this is my only lens I cannot use with Raynox. Did you use some extra adaptor? Cheers.
@@StewartWoodArt Thanks for your answer. Where in the UK can you buy Cygnustech diffuser? I cannot find them on the internet? Also, what makes them better than other, inexpensive diffusers?

Hi nice post thank u. i shoot orchids, wildflowers which can be quite small (1 cm x 2 cm) although not as small as your tiny insects....am thinking of getting this camera for my hikes in bush...can u recommend a couple suitable lenses for me please (maybe one macro and one non macro)? would i be disappointed in creamy bokeh i get coming from aps c with a wide open lens? thx
Your video inspired me to get me a used e-M5 mk 2 / 60 mm macro and a V350flash because as a Nikon Z9 shooter with a 105 mm makrolens and a V860 flash my hand and wrist gets very tired from theese 3 kgs of weight . I am impressed over the Olympus so far. But I am wondering, becouse when stacking is selected, the shutter will not adjust to any shorter than 1/20. That gives some rather overexposed images - trial and error with that, and the bug has flown away. This weekend I tried an E-M1 mk2 - like yours - and that one would accept adjustment to 1/50, wich is one+ stop better, but still a very slow shuttespeed compaired to the normal sync speed. How do you get around that?
Stewart. I have a question for you. Your Godox flash seems to be able to work with every shot in a stack. I have a Godox TT685 for MFT but it only flashes once and the in camera stack doesn’t happen by itself like it does when I don’t use the flash. Are there flashes that work with stacks? As I mentioned in another comment, I am using a Lumix G9. Thank you very much in advance for your help.
@@rodmehta5356 Hi Rod, normally when I use the flash (not stacking), I set it to manual mode and it did stay there when I tried to do focus stacking with flash last night after seeing Stewart’s video. I could hear the sound made by the manual mode.

I’ll keep you posted! I’ve decided to start out by setting up a Macro lab at home, practicing stacking indoors for a while… I think using a DSLR will be more challenging for doing stacks in the field! What do you think?
On the G9 the bracketing is not supported with a flash. However, if the flash is connected via sync cable (but not to the hot shoe), it works perfectly well. Shame, really, good for Olympus to support this properly.
@@StewartWoodArt Hi Stewart! Will you be looking into G9 ii perhaps, at some point? I would love to know if this issue is fixed in that camera, because it doesn't have a synchro socket. And if not, it's completely useless as a macro tool now.
Hello Steward ! Great video.. really amazing photos.. I need your suggestion- I am a Nikon user. I am impressed by OM-1 but it’s costly I see that EM1-II does focus stacking and Procapture as well. Is it good enough for Macro and Birds ? Or I shall wait for opportunities to own OM-1 ? Is OM-1 way better than EM1-II ? Thank you - Rahul Deshpande (India)
Great video and as somebody getting into the world of macro photography more seriously, I find your channel to have a wealth of information. I am curious as to what you think about Mk3 for macro photography? Cheers!
i love my nikon z7 but the main drawback for me is the fact you get the focus point then have to go into the menus to start the stack. So more often than not doing that changes the focus starting point and I miss the shot. Invested heavily in the nikon lenses so can't afford to change but the OM having a focus stack button on the outside allowing you to be sure you are starting focussed on the closest point is great. Not jealous at all. Guess I will never be an outdoor macro stacker - sadface.
I belong to several macro groups and have always believed that Olympus has the best macro setup. My problem is that I shoot Canon in wildlife and landscape as well so I don't have the means to buy different set-ups for different styles. If you are strong and exclusive macro, then I would definitely choose that Olympus set-up.
How can we get cygnus tech diffuser? I tried messaging but no response even after a couple of month. Seems like he only sells to pro photographers. Great shots btw! 👏
I noticed you said, you don't know if the stack took until you get home. Is that like Panasonic G9, where when you stack (Post Focus) and it's all saved into an mp4 file? Can only be obtained in camera tho, but easier to do once home. Just curious - thank you!!
You can stack in camera but you are limited to only 15 shots and spits out a jpg. When you focus bracket you are not limited. Both methods saves the raw files for processing afterwards.
You said the shutter speed is limited to either 1/50 s or 1/100 s (depending upon the ISO) when focus bracketing is selected. Do you know why? For me, that would be a deal-breaker -- I prefer using faster shutter speeds when shooting handheld. I must say, the composite images featured in your video look great. Just not sure I could get the same results using a shutter speed of 1/50 s. I realize many photographers, especially macro photographers, say the flash duration freezes action rather than shutter speed. But after lots of field experience I contend that flash duration alone is insufficient for freezing action. If I were you, I wouldn't be so quick to switch from Canon to Olympus. Eagerly looking forward to your reply! Walter
Very true, you just have to learn the exposure triangle to compensate for more ambient light. For example, I'll put up my f-stop or lowewr the iso if needed to block out the ambient light so only the flash is lighting my subject. If at any point I can't get a correct exposure at 1/50 sec I can always turn of the focus bracketing and go manual just like I do with my Canon. As for switching, I've not switched... I've added a m43 system to my line up of cameras I can use.
Macro in the field and extreme macro on a focus rail setup with a microscope objective. I also do astrophotography from time to time. Started this macro journey 3 years ago after catching a clip of you so thanks for the inspiration. It’s been life changing.
I once wanted to switch to M43, I found a lot of samples to watch, the feeling is not very good, the picture quality is not fine enough, there is a kind of cheap plastic feeling, in short, I feel uncomfortable after watching too much, and I feel like I can’t breathe.
I have a Canon R5, it is superior to Om system cameras except the OM systems has some features and advantages the Canon does not have. The R5 won't do focus bracketing with flash. That is a downside to the camera. But I did buy an OM-D E-M1X because I wanted to play with the live composite, I also bought a viltrox adapter so my canon lenses worked, quite well in fact. Because this is the big bulk less desirable OM camera, I found a very nice low shutter count used one for $500 (someone who bought it for wildlife and lets face it, OM AF can't touch Canon and they were moving to Canon or Sony with the money from his M1X). Anyway Live Composite was a nice feature. I think found out later it did do macro well, and it does ok. The camera to me is just ok and nice and now sits in the closet most of the time until I want to do some more live composite images and I am not a big macro guy like you are and I lost interest when my jumping spider died (Not sure why but I got him out of the wild and I don't think he adapted to small habitat, he also was not very friendly and did not like me handling him) I would never throw my Canon away. I might sell it and buy an Sony but that is a different discussion.
I wouldn’t spend almost £3000 on a camera that is not superior when it comes to macro photography than a system that costs only £1000. Simply put, for macro photography the OM System is better for me.
@@StewartWoodArt Well, a film camera maybe better for you so that is an opinion. But if you are looking for a much less expensive camera, you can get an R7 for 1300 pounds (UK Camera Club) which has focus stacking. Which also has the smaller sensor with all it's benefits (slightly bigger than micro 4/3rds, which also has a 35mp sensor for better resolution [instead of OM 20mp], 40fps, much better AF than OM or even better than the R5. Still cannot use flash with focus stacking but I am sure Canon will add that feature in future models. So maybe not a camera for "me" or "you" the R7 fits the bill with a modern 36mp sensor with fast fps and at a reasonable price new (you said you paid almost 1K pounds for an old used tech that had scratches and was beat up when you could of had a new Canon camera ). If you are doing studio work, led lights can be used which I have seen other youtube macro photographers use exclusively instead of flash. But for me buying a used M1X for $500 gives me some features the canon cameras do not have is inexpensive and Viltrox EF-M1 allows me to use Canon lenses for photography (not focus stacking with flash though). And honestly, canon adding flash to macro focus stacking is not going to make me run out and buy a new camera when my old one works perfectly and I can use small inexpensive led lights to light my subject in studio. That may not work for you, but it will work for many canon camera users.
The picture with the ant and the tiny bug holding the water drop is insane. I can’t stop looking at it
Thanks.

I've added a m43 system to my line up of cameras I can use.
My OM1 goes to 1/250 with manual shutter it's electronic shutter that's limited like most cameras
@@petersmith4098 - Can you use a shutter speed of 1/250 s when focus bracketing?
@@drofnasw yes
@@StewartWoodArt son’s forget that Olympus cameras have great image stabilisation which means you can shoot ar slower speeds.
is there ONE REVIEWER out there showing the camera in action without talk and WITHOUT MUSIC :)
Yeah, all my other video lol
I could tell on my phone which camera you trashed on the last clip after the bloopers ... what did you throw in the garbage dumpster?
My Canon EOS R lol
@@StewartWoodArt :: Lol 😊
@@StewartWoodArt :: Great shots!!
Thank you
I feel so stuck deciding between OM-1 and Sony A7R V.
Would all come down to what you are photographing.
Macro in the field and extreme macro on a focus rail setup with a microscope objective. I also do astrophotography from time to time. Started this macro journey 3 years ago after catching a clip of you so thanks for the inspiration. It’s been life changing.
Thank you, you can’t go wrong with the OM-1 for in the field macro.
And the Olympus is a lot cheaper then the Sony A7rv.
Good point.
What’s that cover? Link?
It;s the diffuser from cynustech.
I once wanted to switch to M43, I found a lot of samples to watch, the feeling is not very good, the picture quality is not fine enough, there is a kind of cheap plastic feeling, in short, I feel uncomfortable after watching too much, and I feel like I can’t breathe.
I'm not too sure what you mean.
maaan, stop smoking pot and start shooting pictures 🤦
