This is the real soundtrack of Doom..I remember just stopping for a while in the game when i was safe and looking out
the window and gazing at the foreboding red sky. The game was so lonely. No real story or cut scenes. Complete isolation.
Just you, your gun and survival. This music allowed your imagination to run riot. The game, if remade should change back to
    these simple concepts.

A game I find to have problems on PS3 is Die Hard Trilogy; the music skips, stops and restarts sometimes. Silent Hill has problems with a high pitched sound that plays sometimes after you shoot (I think with mainly the shotgun?), but other than that it works fine.

If you have a pc, buy the collection on steam and downlpad the psx total conversion which you can run with gzdoom. The TC comes with the Lost Levels and No Rest For The Living (the Lost Levels are the ones cut out from the PSX version, both are redone in the PSX style, NRFTL is the Doom II extra episode that I think was exclusive to Xbox marketplace). The games aren't expensive, GZDoom and the TC are free but always download from the link on the original site never through a third party site. Any computer that will run should be able to run it without issue. GZDoom and other source ports offer graphic and gameplay tweaks for higher resolutions and keyboard/controller loadouts.

Some people say this soundtrack didn't fit the original Doom's pacing, which I can agree to. However it matched the pacing for Doom 64 perfectly, which was different than the original Dooms. Doom 64 was a bit slower, but more gritty and dark. This soundtrack is one of the darkest compositions out there and it inspires me.

    • @riukasoulripper8252
      @riukasoulripper8252 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

absojake Thats true. DOS DOOM was a game which felt alive. Many colors, rocking music, and fast paced action.... but the console ports.... at least the PSX and N64 ones...
I don't know of many games that suffer such a change from one port to another. Heck, maybe DOOM is the only game that managed such a change. The colors are gone, the soundtrack gets tense and dark. Every step you make could be your end, and the music makes you walk even slower. The screams of agony of your enemies are terrible, and still to this day, with my 18 years i tremble everytime I kill or hurt a hell knight. I can't play without feeling sick, while my hand shakes. Every time I turn on my modded DOOM 2 levels with the PSX Graphics and OST is the same story: Scared as fuck, making every move as if it were the last. Every enemy killed is a victory, every bullet that hits its target is well spent...
DOOM is an incredible franchise. The fact that the DOOM community is still alive is proof enough of something that can defy the test of time. How many old games can still be remembered as if they were fresh? Not even Duke Nukem has managed to do so, and it has slowly faded into obscurity. DOOM didn't fade. DOOM still lives on. Doom 4 is a great game, but itcannot be compared with the old DOOM. The only game that can surpass DOOM, is just DOOM itself.
Thanks for reading this far, and thanks ID Software for creating the game that shows that you don't need great graphics nor a hundred employees to create a masterpiece!!
      LONG LIVE DOOM!!!!

I know the PC’s original soundtrack is one of the most legendary ones in the history of gaming, but the PSX’s was much better. The moody ambience fits the game perfectly; I have nothing but good memories from this game and that time period. This soundtrack is also a personal point of importance in the development of my musical tastes, as it was my introduction to ambient/dark ambient music and thus to the exploration of what the genre had to offer, leading to the discovery of great artists, such as Lustmord, the Scandinavian scene (best represented by the now defunct Cold Meat Industry label) and the darker releases by Robert Rich and Steve Roach.

The world is a complicated, noisy place. Here, all complexity is gone; this darkness doesn't necessarily bring clarity, but it does bring simplicity. This is a world where the problems you face are within your power to solve.
Music like this is very... centering. Mysterious, and comforting in its own way. Not really frightening; but with a certain melancholy to it. Like you're here to atone; that the darkness you confront is your own. This version of Doom is a master class of sound design. Standard Doom is a video game; an excellent one, to be certain... but this is something more than that. Simply being there helps me find myself. There's magic in this.

I wish someone would take the original PC version, replace the heavy metal music with this soundtrack and also add in the PSX' more creepy/ambient lighting too, and put that out there.
I know there's a "Total Conversion" of the PSX game on PC, but I think they took that too literally and copied and pasted the PSX version directly into the PC, warts and all, but the original PC version did actually have more intricate levels, higher-res textures, and just more stuff in the levels in general, so I don't want to lose that; I just want the lighting and stunning ambient soundtrack of the PSX games on top of the PC original.

Exactly, I like to think of both soundtracks as representations of Doomguy and the demons
While the pc soundtrack is badass, epic and heavy(like Doomguy), the psx soundtrack is scary, hopeless and transfers a more evil atmosphere(like hell)

Regular doom: You are the horror for everyone's worst nightmares
Doom with aubrey's music: Well, those nightmares are the horrors for you as well but you can fight them
PlayStation doom totally feels like some sort of creepy pasta material due to the sort of music used in the levels and a horror based atmosphere instead of the usual positive one. And ngl this horror music actually fits doom 1 instead of the upbeat rock music, because according to the lore, doomguy was waiting outside for his colleagues to finish the job inside but instead heard their deaths on the transmitter and took upon himself to fight and survive the unknown and make it back to earth. He would of course don't know what sort of creatures he's fighting, and some of them would also be his former associates who have now been converted into one of them. He had to get through all of that. He was the only living person clearing all of phobos and deimos base and he even cleared a lot of places in hell and defeated the spider mastermind. In my humble opinion, the rock music in the original version does not fit because clearly doomguy is not happy that he is getting to fight and kill demons unlike much later when he becomes the doomslayer and his purpose of life is killing demons. The music in doom 2 is apt because doomguy is visiting places familiar to him and he's saving people from more of those demons and is now experienced since he knows most of their weaknesses even of the new ones that he has encountered. Then doom1's rock music should have been featured in doom 64 since now our hero has been promoted to a sergeant, is much more experienced in the art of demon killing and knows the Mars base as well as various places in Hell from inside out. Plus by that time he had already lost his sanity from his back to back tours to hell and having killed over thousands of demons. So he must have become accustomed to all the weakspots of most demons and must be having fun fighting them for adrenaline, perfecting his skills even more, solving maze like puzzles etc. therefore, if Nintendo 64 featured doom1's rock music then it would have been far more better in my eyes. Then finally the modern doom games where our hero has officially stricken fear into hell's heart and lives just for killing demons and thus the argent metal that plays is justified. This was my view on the music of doom.
Also, can anyone tell me who is that guy in this cover? He seriously doesn't look like doomguy even though he has that scar on his left hand that was grabbed in the cover of original doom, looks like a random Hollywood hero.

The first time I played Doom was on the PS1 when I was a kid. Frankly, the soundtrack was the best part of the game - the horror element from this PS1 soundtrack really was impactful when I was a kid. I remember how it made me feel and it was awesome. PLEASE someone with these programming skills - make more levels & Aubrey - you can do the music any day! A hard copy of the music to buy is a definite high on the wish list too! The soundtrack, invisible monsters popping out at you in the dark and all the traps trying to kill you at every turn... scared the life out of me as a kid (even more so with the lights turned out!). 2:00:57 That track terrifies the living daylight out of me whenever I listen to it... O_O
It's mostly because it's not normal ambient noises... it's a bunch of unnatural glitch sound effects combined with what sounds like a Commodore 64 bleeping in pain (if it was a computer that felt pain) alongside warped versions of the ambient noises that play in DooM 64's Level 10: The Bleeding.

But when Mr. Hodges took to the task and Playstation Doom came out: The party was over. Silence of the Lambs? More like Silence of the Damned. This version made you feel alone, and certainly sent the shivers down you nape. Well done.
