Thank you so much for taking this ride. It was one I had requested. I drove up/through here in August. What a hair-raising tour for this flat lander Michigander!😆
WAS NICE TO SEE THIS AGAIN THIS WAY. I DROVE IT BACK IN EARLY 2000. IT HASN'T CHANGED. MY MOTHER WAS WITH US AND SHE STILL TALKS ABOUT HOW SCARED SHE WAS. THINK MOST OF THE CARS MUST HAVE HAD TO GET THEIR BRAKES REDONE AFTER GETTING TO THE BOTTOM. I USED SECOND MOST OF THE WAY. THE VERDE RAILROAD IS A NICE TRIP TO TAKE. IT'S ABOUT 4 HOURS ON A NARROW GAUGE TRACK. BEAUTIFUL SCENERY
I have to get my fix on your channel each morning. you have the cleanest camera and front windshield I've ever seen. Great tone of voice and it's a pleasure to listen to you talk and learn from you.
I think it was mostly copper that was mined there. Was there in 1974 on our way to Sedona for our honeymoon. Sure looked a lot different then! Now looks like one big tourist you- know- what! But then, there's not a lot of mining going on now days, so they have to make a living somehow. Thanks for the memories. It is a beautiful drive!
Really nice day for sight seeing Jerome. The homes close to the road but, the one with the balcony on the 2nd floor hung out to the road. The driveways, to narrow, some had poor visibility for exiting once pulled in. If you ever wanted a maintenance free yard, that would be the perfect place to live. A few really nice homes. Great views of the mountains. I agree, they have some beautiful sunrises.
Brings back memories of my visit to Jerome last year. Gorgeous scenery and weather. It’s a cool refreshing place to visit on a hot summer day, and the views all around are fantastic. Overall, northern Arizona is one of my favorite places to visit.
Good job with the camera and the description of the areas you were passing through. Well done and it has me wanting to get on the road. Thanks for sharing this.
I couldn't agree more! One of the best ever dash cam videos! Jerome is now on my bucket list of places in Arizona I want to see. Unable to travel right now due to Covid concerns so this is the next best thing. I feel like I'm almost there myself with such great footage. Keep up the good work Russ!
Wow, Russ, talk about carving the town right out of the hillside. Perhaps not one-of-a-kind, but decidedly different. Glad you opted to drive through, thanks for the visit.
Good evening Russ, That town Jerome is quite the place , I didn't see any RV parks. Thanks for the drone views. Enjoy all the videos, you do such a great job Larry&Linda
Yes, the Mingus Mountain Road with 158 switchbacks. A BIG congratulations to you for being willing to drive it! Especially in a large vehicle. My GF and I visited that part of AZ back in October 2005, and she did the Mingus Mt Rd drive to Jerome. Jerome is 5000 feet in elevation. My GF's sister lives in Skull Valley, which is outside of Prescott and the locals pronounce it PRESS - kuht, rather than Press-scott. After visiting Jerome, we went over to Sedona and spent the afternoon there and then, drive up to Flagstaff. If you haven't been there already, visit Virginia City, NV, which is in the mountains east of Carson City. It's a historic mining town sort of like Jerome. Virginia City is 6200 feet in elevation.
Being new to your travels channel, I can see the places you just visited! Mingus Mountain, & Jerome... I was there in July 1997, before you could drive! Appreciate your dash cam views!
Beautiful drive, very scenic. The view of Verde Valley so pretty. Jerome does look like a cool little place. Historic for sure. Thank you Russ for entertaining us with these really cool traveling Vlogs. Oh look fall colors, pretty. ✌❤🤗
Love this video Russ! Jerome is such a cool town! Years ago saw it on a VCR tape where the owner of the Gold King Mine took a drive thru Jerome in his IH Diesel truck called "The Other Woman" and his 36 Ford pickup truck. Would love to see Jerome and Gold King Mine someday!👍😃
Jerome has 3 museums. New State Motor Company, Jerome Historical Society Museum, and the Douglas Mansion down below town. I'm a local artist and tour guide in Jerome.
I've travelled through this whole area over many years. Camped in Dead horse state park several times in my tent. Also wild camped atop Mingus mountain, watching the hand gliders take off over Cottonwood vicinity . So atmospheric and uncommercialised compared to lots of other small towns. Long may it remain the same. Oldtimer Englishman from Shropshire reliving some past adventures.
Hi Russ from New Jersey - took a quick peek at this particular and hey, changed our itinerary to check out Jerome on our way up to Sedona and then double back to 17N for Montezuma's Castle on 17N. OMG just some great views and love the switchbacks - planning lunch too at Haunted Hamburger! Safe Travels!
Hi Russ, great video and drone views. Just wanted to let you know there is a Mine Museum with plenty of parking and the most awesome views of the Verde Valley. The Mine Museum shows a video of the history of Jerome, which is narrated by a ghost...very entertaining and interesting. Safe travels! Thanks for sharing!
What a scenic ride! I looked up Jerome on the map and it's a place you couldn't discover by accident. It's not on the way to anywhere. What a place to live! You certainly wouldn't get around on a bicycle!
I don't think I would label Jerome AZ as a "ghost town". It's quite a vibrant small town. Very good quality on the video. Love the drive up 89A. Great drive in a sports car.
Rental SUVs are nice for vacationers, but I want one I can customize to my liking...😳. Stay safe Russ and thanks for taking those of us stuck in brick and mortar places. We will continue to live through your travels.
I loved the drive thru Jerome. Certainly not like I remembered it but that was many moons ago! Am going to do a google search on it. Thanks again for a great ride.
Hey Russ Jerome reminds me of my home county in West Virginia! McDowell County once produced more bituminous coal than any county in the state. In the 1920’s it was home to over 100, 000 people of all nationalities and races. Today the deep mines are gone and coal is dying as a fuel source, even though will find the ravages of early mining everywhere. Homes and business were built right up against the road and on the side of the mountains. Today there are RV camp grounds and Airbnb’s available for the tourist. Railroads are right beside the highway and provide ample opportunities for viewing a working railroad system. Come visit in the summer or autumn! My wife and I drove. Our thirty-one foot C class motorhome through Jerome in the autumn of 2018. It was an exciting drive to say the least! 👍🤠🇺🇸🙏✝️
This was an awesome "ride" and I still have not made it to Jerome. Your videos really made our Summer . Thanks again Russ. Any chance of you doing Saguaro Park outside Tucson? Tombstone AZ is fun! I am still trying to get to Bisbee. Whats on your agenda for winter? We love Quartsite too. Awesome job as always!!!
Cottonwood was a nice town. We camped at Dead Horse State Park in May of '16. Drove through Jerome and couldn't find a place to park the pickup. Driving around was like parking wars for spots. Crazy. Wished we could have walked around town. Did get to do the Verde Canyon Railroad trip as well as visit a lot of native American places in the area.
Hey Russ. Us motorhome folks would like to see those campgrounds. If they are attended, I have never had a ranger that wouldn't give us a free 10 or 15 min pass to check things out. And hey. Your drone shows stuff too. Thanks for your work and the wide area you show us. Tom
Two friends and I did a road trip. Went to Grand Canyon then to cottonwood where we stayed and then did day trips around there and one big one up to page. We drove home through Jerome and Prescott back to So Cal. It as a fantastic trip. I love road trips.
Hello Russ! You shouda went up to Potato Patch campground it overlooks the valley below. Several spots are right on the edge. Maybe you will camp there next time. Beautiful drive! OOPs my bad the campground you need to go to is Mingus Mountain Campground!
Have visited Jerome many times when beeing on vacation to Arizona from Sweden. My last visit was 2018. Jerome is a fantastic place and i hope to visit again.
At 10:55 if you look at that hill side, you were scanning there is at least two or three wooden structures you can see where the mine shaft enter-exit the hill side.
Great vid. Im headed to Jerome to finally get to taste my favorite artists wine. And ill be in ehrenburg at this awesome blm spot chillin til then thanks forvanother one of your awesome videos. Thanks Russ for the vids.
drove through there 3 months ago on an all day drive. really nice. but a tourist trap. very crowded even during covid. i imagine it would be amazing with some snow.
Havenot been from this direction. Kudos, good sir! 👍👍😎😎🇺🇸 Jerome is off dah hook. Spend the day👍👍. Haunted Hamburger!👍👍🇺🇸 Jerome from the other direction!!, Jerome, Food, Arts, Crafts, Jewelry...its awesome👍👍🇺🇸
Now I know! I don't want to bring my 30' trailer that way. I appreciate the ride along..always do. I just moved camp to Quartzsite for a month, so when you get back I have a cup of coffee with your name it, maybe I could meet at Game Store?
been running to Jerome before I was legal to drive. Do it on a Harley or hyper speed in a Corvette during the week. Jerome is a great place to stay. Ghost City Inn is my favorite. all the folks in town are wonderful.
Love this area! Jerome has some pretty good Pie! White stuff on the north faces will last awhile! I’ve ridden this area on a Motorcycle which is real fun!
Great place to visit. My first trip up there was over 45 years ago. Incidentally, Jerome does not qualify as a ghost town since it never lost its incorporation.
The ghost town is further up the mountain away from the main part of town where you drove thru. What is the Ghost town is where the mining village was. I went there years ago and toured it. It had Dr. office, dentist, numerous other buildings including the old machinery used in the mining process. It also had a souvenir shop. Very interesting. If you make the drive you must visit the mining village which is the Ghost town.
Hey, Russ, one more thing. At 17:06 you pass a "garage" built into the hillside on the left that has an old Dodge pick-up truck parked inside. You should locate it on Google Earth and do a street view to see what's sitting in the driver's seat. Hilarious!
Once again Russ, you brought back long ago memories of when I was young-er. I think it was 83 or there about the last time I passed that way. I can’t believe how Jerome has changed in the last 35 plus years. It was ready to fall into the valley the last time I passed through. Keep up the great videos and maybe I can buy you a cold one at the VFW in Meadview if you’re ever back up in paradise.
Ooooo been there lots stayed at many of the hotels including the Grand. The Conner is by far the most active in paranormal activity I mean it's almost non-stop! Creepy stuff oh by the way Mile Hi restaurant has world famous bread pudding it's amazing!!! 😛
Jerome is such an intriguing town. The mountain it sits on is hollow from a myriad of mine shafts. There is the constant concern that it could all collapse. People were allowed to move there for free years back just to care for the homes and commercial buildings.

Russ, outstanding road trip! Those narrow roads on city streets remind me of a few cities in NC and Virginia...... Super Cool 😎.
Did this on a motor cycle with my wife about 1995. Was part of a 7600 mile ride. Loved it.
