Dang. This is almost too much seeing a couple of my best friends hanging out and exchanging stories. Wish I were there. Wondering what kind of "refreshments" Alison offers; I can't really see her decanting homemade wine yet...but it could happen, I guess.
Have you thought about setting up a black soldier fly bin or a duck weed pond to help contribute free food to your ducks diet? Duck weed and black soldier fly larvae are both excellent sources of protein for them, the geese and chickens. If you had waste food I put from other members of your community, you could do the black soldiers fly bins on a large scale.
Are geese in demand for dog food? Are the necks safe to consume by dogs?!? Beef ribs out of the crock pot after 6 hrs are soooo soft that even a chihuahua can gnaw the bone away completely. No breaks or pieces, just mashy bone.

Maybe. The challenge is that it's such a large, porous space that it would be hard to protect against predators.

Not rurally. They are quite lax.
I feel like such a city mouse asking this, but why don't the geese fly away?
It could be the breed of goose but often with wild animals they will stay in an area where they feel safe and can get an easy meal.
Heavy breed geese are unable to gain much liftoff

Using the geese to graze around trees with the extra manure should make your trees grow faster. Protected by the tubes the geese should do n o harm.
