  • Made in 1955 by the Association of American Railroads, BIG TRAINS ROLLING examines how the US railroads keep the economy growing by providing transportation and employment. Features trains from many different railroads including Southern Pacific, Santa Fe & Western Maryland.
A highly patriotic film, the film is educational in tone and follows two children as they make a cross-country trip on the Southern Pacific Daylight beginning at Los Angeles' Union Station. Scenes in the train include the dining car, kitchen, sleeping quarters, and more.

Railroads even in the 21st. century are as important as they were then.

There are 2 versions of this film. This one, made in 1946, and an updated one made in 1955. Both featured "Carol" and "Jimmy" played by different actors. In the 1955 version, there are no steam engines to be seen. And Carol and Jimmy go in a bedroom, not an open section like this version.

This is the days before Eisenhower and the rubber tire mafia. In California anywhere along the Southern Pacific mainline we had next day mail service. Los Angeles Terminal Annex-Oakland Mole. Not one penny in tax money!!.

Yep, our politicians were bought off by a cabal of auto, tire, gas and oil, airline, trucking, and road building lobbies. If they had deliberately set out to destroy our railroads, they could not have done a better job.

That’s kinda cool, but I guess that they are 1950s era coaches.

There's 'Old' and 'All New' version of the same Big Trains Rolling. This one is intended for schools I think.

The kids boarded Golden State 4443 Daylight and de-boarded 4452, another SP Daylight. The Daylights were gone by 1955.
