Here's a pro tip. Reduce the size of the Doom window in the settings, and then enlarge the CRT viewing picture to max. That way you get both performance and size.
I played Doom on 368dx40 myself, heh. I remember using the option which lowered the game's internal resolution or something (F5 for toggling between High Detail and Low Detail) and it ran much better.
This is brilliant performance for a 386 for me and perfectly playable, although if it were we I would shrink the screen maybey one more size just to remove some of the horrible frame drops.
I remember having played it in full-screen, but low-res and it ran very smoothly this way.

did play it on a 486DX2 100. It was so smooth. Did have a Olivetti 386sx 16Mhz as the first PC. It was a bit slow...
Add an additional 4mb of ram and you should be able to run this game full screen with no green border.
It's easy to forgot how these things used to play. Is Doom running in 2x2 pixels?
Yep, the same settings i use to play on my Tf 1230 030 50 Mhz...with very similar performance.
That’s really interesting. A little peak at what could have been.
I remember Descent being unplayable on a 386, and even on my 486/66 I had to shrink the screen pretty small.
you must have not have had a sweet sweet S3 VIRGE which accelerated Descent! RIP
@@sanantohomie Yeah I didn't get a graphics accelerator until 1998 (a Diamond something) to play Shadows of the Empire on a 200 Mhz Pentium
Doesn't seem to run too badly. Better than the Saturn port lol
You might want to add some more RAM.
my PC and my Game in 1993 🤣
Ma sto 386 fa le fiaccoleeeee, è na spadaaaa
is this a 386 or a 486DLC? it makes a big difference
it's an AMD 386 DX 40 Mhz.
@@DaniloSavioni you can overclock it to 60 mhz if mothetboard allows it i used to do it back in the day
