Jumping back to something from #15, is this early aggression with the starting fleets not considered "the way it is supposed to be played"? Like using retreat mechanics to amass my fleet. Makes me think of trying a lower difficulty and playing more "turtle".
I have tried doing that before and was always disappointed because the AI never attacked my fortifications meaningfully on lower difficulties. I think it comes down to personal preference and good sportsmanship. I'm going to relax my aggression to dig in a little bit soon because I also love turtling. I just learned that we have to cast a wide net to make the defensive game possible against the expert AI (which will DEFINITELY attack us meaningfully, making the defenses very worth it). As far as how to play the mod, I actually changed the name of this series from "guide" because I don't think that my way is necessarily better. There's a gigachad in the Discord who destroyed the Republic by week 20 which I wouldn't personally find fun but also admit is "optimal" play. We players tend to engineer the fun out of games which is what makes game development so tricky. I think that my methods are near-optimal (depending on your goals) as an attempt to play as closely to how I figure the devs intend us to play. This could be its own video topic, I might try to find a way to speak to this. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on your channel, too.
