Barry is so good you can entertain non-football and non-sports fans with his highlights. That's a transcendence very few human beings reach in any genre, let alone sports.
Barry is the greatest RB ever. He played behind horrible lines. He played for horrible teams. Yet, he amassed incredible stats. Had he not retired early, he would have ran for 20,000+ yards. Put him on the 90's Cowboys, he may run for 2,500 yards a season.
Xavier Vega, not for long though. At least W.P had 6 seasons with one of the top 3 teams in the NFL the years he played in the 1980's. I love W.P more that you could imagine, but without a doubt Barry Sanders is Simply the Greatest Running Back of All Time Period!
Are we talking about the 1985 world champion Chicago Bears? This guy needs to brush up on he's sports history. The Detroit Lions, to this day, still haven't even been to the superbowl!!
If anyone can do what Emmith did in Dallas, why doesn´t anybody take that spot in the roster? Emmith is criminaly under rated. You don´t finish first all time rushing leader because a great O Line.
As time goes by i think more and more people realize how amazing this guy was. It's crazy to think that watching this guy play was such a huge high point in my life. He made everything seem possible. When you inspire people like that because of the things you do, it proves you are the best. Thank you Barry.
+blunt balloons Calvin Johnson retired because he wanted to finish his degree, and was fed up with the bullshit calls the refs were making on his team, that often lost them games. Barry retired because Detroit's lack of postseason runs, which he later took back.
Barry gave off a majestic aura when you saw him run. The greatest RB to step on the field. His talent was mind boggling. Emmitt Smith, Jim brown, walter Payton, all greats. Barry sanders, the greatest.
#17 is an absolute joke. Greatest runner period. Period. Top 5 minimum. Talk to the ranked defenders on this all time list. They have given many interviews of how they found themselves one on one in the open field with Barry and they were fearful of looking stupid. Who says this about other runners????
if you dont count longevity, i got him at #3 behind bo jackson and earl campbell ---- maybe mix in jim brown somewhere// if yr playing one game or one season im taking bo all day long not even close, too bad jackson and campbell had short careers
The Human Crab! Could move sideways, frontwards, backwards , without losing momentum....hell i can't explain it. He was truly out of this world. I doubt we will ever see another rb with his style. College record will never b broken. Incredible player. Jaw droppin
3:35 QB saw Sanders reverse the field, saw a glitter of hope and put up his hands to signal a TD and Barry still had 20 yards to go!! Amazing Glad I was blessed to watch him play when I was young.
Best running I've ever seen play. This could be nostalgia because I grew up in the 90's, but nobody has had comparable talent since then. Have there been good backs? Absolutely. Another Barry? No way.
Believe me...it's not just nostalgia! We were so blessed to have seen him play! This is for all fans who watched him. His entire career was a "Masterpiece" as someone pointed out in the comments.
Sanders was (and remains) in a class all by himself. To call him elusive is an understatement. I lost count of how many times I saw him fake out defensive players. After making a juke move, he'd go one way, and three jockstraps would go flying the opposite direction.
Having Winton Marsalis narrate shows how Barry transcended just playing the game. He showed what few people can actually attain - unification of the mind, body, and spirit, to give us mere mortals a glimpse into the divine - like Nicklaus, Gretzky, Jordan, Van Halen, and Michael Jackson, Barry’s talent and work ethic were other-worldly.
Barry is the 2nd greatest running back behind Jim Brown, but he's the greatest RB I've ever seen in my 30 years on this earth. I think 17 is a slap in the face. He is in the top 10 for me.Dude would've had the most yards by a RB if he didn't retire, and that is while still holding the record for the most yard LOST by a RB with around 1100.
He was the most incredible player I've ever seen, and I'm a Niners fan, lol. If Jerry is #1, then Barry should be #2, he was that amazing to watch. Simply amazing!!
Barry Sanders was easily the most elusive runner in NFL history, if he had any space, he would use it better than anyone else who played the game! The saddest thing about Barry Sanders is that he probably would have been the greatest RB of all time and higher on this list if the Lions were a more professional and well run franchise because Sanders easily could have broken Payton's record because he easily had at least 3 more seasons left in him at 30 and was only about 1,500 yards away.
WOW. As a musician and football fan, this was an incredibly satisfying video. Wynton Marsalis also displays his cunning with words and intelligence, where you describe an impossible thing without defining it: just like jazz. The pinnacle of music, used to explain one of, if not THE, greatest running back of all time.
The 90s had so much greatness, and the best of anything u could imagine is still arguably still the best today. Rap had Pac, basketball ya had mike, movies you had denzel, football, you had Deon, Barry, jerry, Brett, Bruce Smith, and Atwater.
the thing about Barry is... he was great, WITH THE LIONS! You can talk about the other great half backs, but they were not great with a broken team like the Lions of the 90's. To me, Barry is the #1 half back of all time. I believe that if Bo Jackson was not cut down early, Barry would still be better than Bo. I'll bet Bo knows
I loved watching Sanders.. Never got tired of his bump stop wait then GOOOOO and he was gone !! Ya cant teach that !! He had that natural running back talent.
He truly was an artist of football. He walked away when it was no longer meaningful to him. He was motivated by something inside of himself rather than extrinsic rewards such as records, money, fame, etc. He wasn't only a great football artist, he was a sage. What an inspiring man.
I could respect that he quit when he quit, because it's obvious that he would have eclipsed the rushing record. But he wasn't focused on that. I think being so great and not being on a great team takes some of the fun out of it. I think he would have stayed "connected" and motivated longer if his team situation was different.
Let me see here. Never had a great coach, never had a great qb, never had a great defence, never had a great offensive line and made Reggie white looks like he had two left feet. Greatest RB of all time
I would of loved a guy like Richard Sherman or Darrelle Revis try to tackle this guy. He was just the best to watch. Living in Michigan and being able to see many of the Lions games...except for the blackout games...thanks NFL, he truly was worth the time and energy. Even though we had some bad years it was still awesome to see him. I'm 36 now and there will never be another Barry. Some runners in the last decade have had small similarities but that's where it ends. Reggie Bush had some of that elusiveness and the same can be said for Shady McCoy but there not even in the same breath as #20. I mean just look what he did to an all pro like Rod Woodson back in Pittsburgh.
I was privileged to watch the greatest athlete/human being every game on TV. Not one time I didn't jump out of my seat with amazement watching this great football player. Every game he never disappointed.... Thank you Barry Sanders...Lions fan
Great and just brilliant way to explain the unbelievable way that "Mr. Barry Sanders," played the game of football, and I don't think there will ever be another one guite like him.
There are 2 NFL players from my lifetime that I would have to know what they did every Sunday. The first was Earl Campbell, the last was Barry Sanders. Having Wynton Marsalis talk about Barry was pure gold.
Barry Sanders is an all-time greatest running back of all. I feel he should be higher because he ran over 2,000 rushing yards in one season. He was very elusive and consistent with his speed and breaking tackles. He accomplished so much as he finished his career with 15,269 rushing yards, 99 rushing touchdowns with a 2,921 receiving yards as he retired early from the NFL after 10 seasons with the Detroit Lions. Salute to #20 Barry Sanders!!!
Excellent video! Very clever to have a jazz musician talk about Barry Sanders and compare his talents to jazz music, that is thinking outside the box. Many non Lions fans tuned into the games just to watch Sanders play.
Another thing about Barry - he was never hurt. He played 10 seasons. In 7 he played all 16 games. In two he played 15 games and one season he played 11 games.
Barry is very unique. Pure runner. Made defenses look silly. Very entertaining to watch. There won't be another barry sanders. To me IMO , other great backs are one in the same. If you put barry in a white jersey with no name. You can tell it's Barry by his running style. He average in his career 1500 yards a season. Insane.
Barry never bashed his teammates. Barry never taunted or trash-talked. Barry gave it his all. Barry never made political statements. Barry never took a knee. Barry is universally loved by football fans. He was a uniter, not a divider - like so many of the names in the sport these days.
+RedX165 That makes no sense. Barry was better in every way. Barry rushed for over 1,000 yards in ten straight seasons. That is a model of perfection and consistency which no other running back has ever achieved. Barry Sanders averaged 5.0 yards per carry, which is not the highest in NFL history, but it is higher than Walter Peyton. Barry Sanders played with an abysmal offensive line, Peyton did not. The only good player that Barry ever played with that helped draw constant attention from him was Herman Moore. Even still, he received pretty much all the attention from the defense. Walter Peyton had 1500 more yards, but he played 13 years. If Barry played an additional three years instead of only ten he would've shredded Walter Peyton's record and everyone knows it. Barry was just better, all the statistics show that he was better, and the highlight reel and game footage shows that he was better as well. You can look back on Peyton with nostalgia glasses all you want, but Barry is #1.
Barry is the reason I always watched Lions games on Thanksgiving growing up. It was one of the few times I ever got to see him live. I never got to watch Jim Brown and Walter Payton was nearing the end of his career when I really began to pay attention to football. Sanders is the greatest running back I have watched.
Hands down, the greatest RB in NFL history. And the NFL has him at #17. Disgusting. Shame on you, NFL. He’s easily in the top 5 of the all time greatest players.
If he played for a good team not the worst team, if he played longer, he is the only NFL player who has carried a team to the the playoffs, he is the only reason why lions were a threat
I disliked this video not because of Barry but because of the number 17 position. It's total BS. Barry Sanders is top 5 and he was better than Jim Brown IMO. Imagine the yards per game Barry would've had if he played against the defenses Brown played against.
Barry was the most dangerous running back on the field. He make you look silly. He the moves, agility and accuracy to do it. Sanders in my opinion is the best running backs in history.
One of the best videos the NFL has made. Choosing a jazz musician to describe Barry Sanders was perfect.
I TOTALLY AGREE, And He Explained It So Well
not just any jazz musician, THE modern day jazz musician. Wynton is greatness personified, just like Barry.
Indeed because Barry was so smooth.
And great call, he was a musician.
2:38 he broke Reggie White's ankles like it was nothing
That was just sick how he juked that safety for the patriots. I swear, most guys couldn't tackle Barry in a phone booth.
lol word
JAMIE DUKES: Don't let Barry make you do the Lord's Prayer!
Barry definitely deserves to be rated higher he had incredible elusiveness and reflexes. Once in a lifetime talent.
There are great running backs and then there is Barry Sanders.
Barry is so good you can entertain non-football and non-sports fans with his highlights. That's a transcendence very few human beings reach in any genre, let alone sports.
Very true, my girlfriend doesn’t care about sports let alone football, but she cracks up at Barry juking other players
Barry deserves a higher spot
At least top 15
#1
With a 1-5 playoff record? He should be lower
+Carlos Valle running backs can't carry teams, you're shot
Of course not, if he only hace one touchdown in his playoff career. 64 yards per game in playoffs. Of course he can´t carry a team.
#17 is an insult, sanders is top 10 at the very least
James Clayton agreed!
They need to Apologize to Barry

Barry
Jim brown

Smith

Earl Campbell

He'd hit 300 yards A GAME w/ that O-Line.
MichaelMick He was the greatest Pure Runner but Walter Payton was better overall player.
What he did to Reggie White was just cold blooded. Poetry in motion. GOAT
Detroit Lions have driven more all-time greats to early retirements than any other team. Quite an accomplishment.
The chargers and Vikings might have an argument
Losing does take its toll.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That piano gave me chills, love Barry
Just imagine if Barry was running behind the Cowboys O-line of the 90's, instead of Emmitt Smith.
Bro keep preaching! I could never imagine my childhood without Barry in Detroit; but no doubt!
Ultimate domination
he would've had 3000 yards
If anyone can do what Emmith did in Dallas, why doesn´t anybody take that spot in the roster? Emmith is criminaly under rated. You don´t finish first all time rushing leader because a great O Line.
Emmitt had amazing talent but the O-Line gave him the record. Without the O-Line he's 4 all time rushing
Barry Sanders is the best RB ever. To do what he did, in the amount of time he did it, is simply a masterpiece
"Of all the players I faced there is only one I FEARED, because he could beat you at any moment, and that was Barry"

Because Detroit has been ass for so long.

blunt balloons You're welcome.
they had one that didnt
Barry Sanders just seemed to intuitively understand the physics of every tackler that approached him, and responded with the perfect counter-move
You mistyped number 1.
Very true
Charlie Cairone he is the best and always will be
I'll say it like this Barry is the best RB but Walter is the greatest player because he could do anything on the field
nihilist 243 no 😂😂😂 Barry was the most unstoppable player of all time he don’t get number 1 that’s crazy 💀

Out of all the 100 videos in this series that I’ve seen this was my favorite one by far.
Barry gave off a majestic aura when you saw him run. The greatest RB to step on the field. His talent was mind boggling. Emmitt Smith, Jim brown, walter Payton, all greats. Barry sanders, the greatest.
I love that they showed him handing out waters he was such a class act.. he rarely celebrated touchdowns too always gave the ball to the ref

Gayle Sayers was the forerunner to Barry
Winton Marsalis narration on Barry was spot on. A true virtuoso…..Barry was a jazz note, remarkable, sudden and couldn’t be duplicated
2:39 making the 2nd greatest defensive player of all time look like a practice squad player
Reggie is a much slower player and essentially caught in the open field, what do you expect lol
And Derrick Brooks right before that

#17? Ridiculous! Greatest Running Back OF ALL TIME! Incomparable, and he did it all on the Detroit Lions.
I'm trying to not get bent out of shape about it, but he definitely deserves higher than #17.
Every Thanksgiving the nation received a treat to go along with their turkey dinner. That treat was getting a chance to see Barry Sanders play.
Reggie White getting his ankles broken 😂😂
Diego Chavez Rod Woodson also. Just not in this video.
He INJURED Rod Woodson! I wasn't even mad as a Seelers fan. I loved Thanksgiving as a kid solely bc I knew I got to watch Barry Sanders.
yeah..he did my favorite all time dirty hehe. Barry is the best bro
Did John Lynch ass lol
I saw John Lynch in there too 😂 they all caught it from Barry.

Jimmy Googer You keep listing rushing. There is more to a RB than just rushing...
Barry is the reason I always watched Lions games on Thanksgiving growing up. It was one of the few times I ever got to see him live. I never got to watch Jim Brown and Walter Payton was nearing the end of his career when I really began to pay attention to football. Sanders is the greatest running back I have watched.
3:35 Sanders is still in the backfield with multiple players to beat and the QB is already celebrating the impending TD!
I am so glad I was old enough to remember him, easily one of my all time favorite football player!
1:48 best way to describe Barry.
Best of all time, at least best I ever seen live
Hands down, the greatest RB in NFL history. And the NFL has him at #17.
Disgusting. Shame on you, NFL. He’s easily in the top 5 of the all time greatest players.
Sanders is definitely a top 5 player. This list is a joke. How are Michael Strahan and Randy White on this list and Jack Youngblood isn't?
If he played for a good team not the worst team, if he played longer, he is the only NFL player who has carried a team to the the playoffs, he is the only reason why lions were a threat
2:46 lmao #75 looked so lost like he didn’t know he was on the defensive side of the ball
The juke at 2:35 you don’t see that on average. That is extraordinary.
I disliked this video not because of Barry but because of the number 17 position. It's total BS. Barry Sanders is top 5 and he was better than Jim Brown IMO. Imagine the yards per game Barry would've had if he played against the defenses Brown played against.
I was too young to appreciate Barry, but watching his highlights…God dam!
When I was younger everyone wanted to be Barry sanders just like everyone wanted to be Mike Jordan. He is top 10.
That move on Reggie white at 2:40 was filthy
Guy was BEAST....makes me mad we never saw a full time Bo Jackson :(
GREATEST RUNNING BACK EVER!
This #17 rating was nothing short of insulting
Barry is top 10. The most talented RB I have ever seen. Jim Brown is rightfully top 10, but so is Barry.
Easily the best running back. Should be top 5.
Best running back ever! I watched every carry
Did i just see barry sanders break reggie whites ankles
Barry was the most dangerous running back on the field. He make you look silly. He the moves, agility and accuracy to do it. Sanders in my opinion is the best running backs in history.
