When you were seeing smoking and what you smelled was a clutch that is in there that is designed to slip if it hits something so basically it saves the gearbox and saves any stresses and strains and either the gearbox got hot from lack of oil and lock down and then the clutch started slipping that's where you seen the smoke or it could have got tangled up in something and caused the clutch to slip you can also adjust them as well adding more attention to the clutch that's what's under that cover and that's what you were smelling was clutch material burning
You sure are a busy man. Be proud of what you do accomplish & every bit by bit it will get to be the building you dream of. So glad you didn't let this wonderful place get demolished.
As a past farm worker- when you brush hog if it’s a mess- every so often you need to lift the mow bed and let all the crap out- or it accumulates under there and jams the blades and they don’t turn and there you go - clutch slips
I love the blue toilets! I am working on a song with all my dumb questions, lol! Also you need a riding mower. You’re getting a masters degree in everything. You’re getting to the point where you will have to be a CEO and hire people to delegate jobs to and get some businesses operating out of there to generate income.
Chris, before you add another layer of that roofing, you really need to do a complete thorough inspection of the existing roof structure and replace any damaged and rotted areas. Also you need to make sure that the roof joist framing can handle the additional weight. Just remember how old this building is.
on that pedestal sink there may be a backet that mounts to the wall. The sink may hang on that bracket catching the lip on the back of the sink then the pedestal can be slid under it.
That gearbox needs flushed out with oil. It has water mixed in with it. It uses 90w gear oil. That was the clutch that was smoking. You probably need to mow it about 1/2 height on one pass and then ground level on the second pass. You may be putting too much load on the blades causing them to slow down in respect to the PTO revolutions so it causes the clutch to slip and heat up. Let it cool down and it will probably be fine for now. It it slips easily after it cools down, then adjust it.
thanks for the info. I guess I was surprised because it has handled thicker stuff in the past but maybe it's just getting to that point in its lifespan.
@@coldwarmercantile that may be, but it also may have never been adjusted correctly in the first place. You never know. Anyway, take it easy on it since it's chinesium. Great tractor though. I had the older version. I don't like fords, but do like their tractors. Love the projects. If I had the time and money, I'd definitely come and help out on the building. I love restoring so called 'lost causes'. That building has heart and so do you. I want to see the Mercantile in operation as a final product.
The plug in the light socket probably unscrews. Pretty sure you can still buy them, along with a light socket you can plug into an outlet. I'm wondering if you have a slipper clutch slipping on the brush hog. BTW, not sure if slipper clutch is the correct wording. Milk shakes are good unless it's from water in oil / gear lube.
He is absolutely right there is a slip clutch on that brush hog but since I wasn't there I didn't remember it was there and I was just talking to him by phone but that's a pretty easy fix thank you for the help. Bob
You have a sink pipe up and down in the back of the stand. No no don't attach sink until you get plumbing pieces and water pipe coming into bathroom. Call plumber.
It's a sink mount (big bar that mounts to wall) that holes set on... likely you have one in plumbing supplies. Look it up so you'll know what to look for.
For the lawn care, is their anyone you can contact that has sheep/goats? They'll eat the grass back to a nub, leaving you free to do other projects with your building. When our acreages got out of control, (due to health issues), our neighbor brought over his livestock and cleared it up, with us/them getting the benefits, in addition having them hired for year round "clean ups"... saving us from doing that chore!..ijs
How long was it running? That was some pretty tall grass and that's an older machine it may have been at its limit good thing you broke it up and do a couple days so it won't overheat and burn up
Pedestal sinks aren’t my first choice for a public bathroom. People do weird stuff in bathrooms just saying. Glad the brushhog seemed to last the plot. Man you should keep a can of wd40 and penetrating spray/fluid on each floor and in your truck haha! How hard was it to get back in that window?
That a handful of projects at once! That sink will become one with the wall and floor once its bass is bolted down. Best wishes.
Cool. That is comforting I'll post the vid when it is all installed.
my name is frank. dont feel bad you are probably right about the window. lol
LMAO
pure comedy.
You are always busy! Have a good flight! Be safe!
I know! Hi there Tete. Hope you are doing well.
Bog humour 😂 😂I’m afraid I can’t help with the engine issues. I’m here to learn myself from you. …… and Bob.
Well if you are learning from me I think you are in for a world of trouble!! Learning from Bob is a different story.

that is what Bob was speculating too. I guess the thick grass was causing it to do that.
You sure are a busy man. Be proud of what you do accomplish & every bit by bit it will get to be the building you dream of. So glad you didn't let this wonderful place get demolished.
It is slow for sure, but looking back It has come a long way. Hopefully this year we will finally turn some big corners.
Love watching your progress.
Oh my what a thoughtful kind thing to do. I still can't get used to that. Cheers and thank you so much.
As a past farm worker- when you brush hog if it’s a mess- every so often you need to lift the mow bed and let all the crap out- or it accumulates under there and jams the blades and they don’t turn and there you go - clutch slips
You are correct I was trying to guess what was up by phone and didn't realize it had a slip clutch. High rpm slow speed. Bob
I really like that bathroom now, I can't wait until you add some great stuff.
me too. A good coat of paint and wahlahhh
Enjoy your break from the shoe factory. Have fun with the family in Poland!
Thanks so much, the vids are about delayed so I am actually almost ready to head back to the building.
Sometimes the sinks get held to the wall by something across the back under the lip rather similar to a French cleat.
Your right. Bob

Oh man I should have AI make one too.
Thank you Bob

True, I think that is one of the few things I will leave to professionals.
I feel an Shawshank moment on the roof 😂
Oh my, I feel it too especially when I am on the upper roof about 40 feet higher.
Keep on progressing
Thanks for the support and the comment!
Hi Chris, I caught your video early.
You did, the very first one!
I think the sink would mount with some silicone between the base and the sink, and some industrial glue on the back.
someone also said a steel band screwed into the wall and connected to the porcelain behind was the old way.
There is a steel/cast iron bracket that screws to the wall, which may have some hooks that insert in the holes, yes.
WHEN BOB'S NOT THERE THE MICE WILL PLAY..........AND DESTROY EVERYTHING 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
haha, so true.
It's good to learn guy stuff.
I know right?!?
on that pedestal sink there may be a backet that mounts to the wall. The sink may hang on that bracket catching the lip on the back of the sink then the pedestal can be slid under it.
You are 100 percent correct. Now the fun part is trying to find that bracket and that building LMAO. Bob

Good catch with that window!
Thanks, just glad it didn't break!

Milk shakes are good unless it's from water in oil / gear lube.
Yeah that is what bob and a few other folks all said. So I am guessing they have figured it out. Bob says that should be adjustable/fixable.
Chris, husband says there is a clutch that is either stuck or slipping. Tell Bob what I told you and I bet he knows where it is. Cheers!
He is absolutely right there is a slip clutch on that brush hog but since I wasn't there I didn't remember it was there and I was just talking to him by phone but that's a pretty easy fix thank you for the help. Bob
On your roof check and see if you can just use a mop on top coating to get you by for a few more years.
yeah, I used that stuff in some valleys and it immediately cracked. But it was on metal maybe flat surface is better.
Always learn where the lubrication locations are on any machine you operate, before you operate it check the oil levels and or grease fittings.
A stitch in time saves 9.
You have a sink pipe up and down in the back of the stand. No no don't attach sink until you get plumbing pieces and water pipe coming into bathroom. Call plumber.
Chris that was so awesome the AI Video you made. I wish you could find someone who worked their.
Not too many left sadly.
Use your chain hoist out the fire door until elevator is ready.
It's a sink mount (big bar that mounts to wall) that holes set on... likely you have one in plumbing supplies. Look it up so you'll know what to look for.
Yeah, most of the stuff that goes out the escape can be just tossed out without regard.
For the lawn care, is their anyone you can contact that has sheep/goats? They'll eat the grass back to a nub, leaving you free to do other projects with your building.

That would be awesome, I should see what the city regulations are about that.
How long was it running? That was some pretty tall grass and that's an older machine it may have been at its limit good thing you broke it up and do a couple days so it won't overheat and burn up
Bob says he thinks we can fix the clutch on it.
What happened with the elevator? Why do you have to haul things up and down the stairs?
We are still working on a solution for it. As soon as we get it sorted I'll post the vid.
@@coldwarmercantileI guess I missed something. I never saw anything about any trouble, it just kind of disappeared.
Brush hog gear box takes 80w90 oil.
Noted, thanks for the tip! Learn something every day.
Oh dear Chris, I cringed when I saw you using the chisel to open the can!
I do hope it was one of several of that size & it was not the best you have.
I have a set of wood chisels that I don't that kind of thing with. But I get you. It's a constant thing. LOL.
You want to watch out for ticks in that long grass.
I hate those but in Illinois chiggers are worse!
you have the mower deck too low for the blades to kick the grass out
Yeah I guess it was overworking it. Maybe should try doing 2 passes.
Is the elevator still not working??? I’m standing by to make you custom control electronics
hi, can you email me at triggerfish9@gmail.com? I have a couple of questions.
You should look into rubber roofing
Perhaps on the lower front areas, up top it is pretty new metal roof with a few issues.
Pedestal sinks aren’t my first choice for a public bathroom. People do weird stuff in bathrooms just saying.
Glad the brushhog seemed to last the plot.
Man you should keep a can of wd40 and penetrating spray/fluid on each floor and in your truck haha!
How hard was it to get back in that window?
oh my, that brings all sorts of terrible things to mind. Haha. Hopefully we can get it back fully operational
Is the bush hog you used to butcher the very long grass the one that you & Bob worked on recently?
yes, haha. Turns out the clutch needs adjusted.
Clutch is slipping....
yeah, that seems to be the consensus. Bob said it should be an easy fix!
No do resin window ledges.
resin?
Elevator? Roof you need what is a hot Roofers who mop on hot tar.
Tar roofers.
there is one area that is topdown. Will be doing that this year.
Like the old sink better. They make a two part epoxy paint for cast iron porcelain sinks and bath tubs .
Hmm I did not know that. I'll TH-cam it. cheers!
the plastic on the mower melted because uncle frank came over
Sounds like him for sure.
On your roof check and see if you can use a mop on top coating to get you by a few more years.
