I started to love Smokie (Chris Norman) when I saw them in Top of the Pops since I arrived in London 1972. My husband loved their music lyrics and music accompaniment, we find it very soothing with its meaningful messages of its content. My best music band I find very comforting since my husband passed away in 2013
I didn't even know that a group called Smokie existed until last year. Due to a lot of personal tragedy, I missed out on so much of my teen years, when everyone else was enjoying this group and Chris Norman. I will be 74 this year and this outlet has let me experience what could have been my teen year treasures. Chris is great but, so is Terry Uttley, Alan Silson, Pete Spencer, Alan Barton (God rest his soul), Mike Craft, Martin Bullard, Mack McCullen, and all of the back up band members. Thank you for giving this senior citizen a chance to feel the love and beauty of your music. My name is Claudette and I am from the state of Iowa in the USA. All of you must know by now, how very popular your music is but, I want to thank you for being such beautifully caring people.

We were in 1980-1982,having a drink in the evening with a friend at a coffeeshop eqipped with a music stereo & loundspeaker which was not common in a communist dictatorship such as VietNam,which closed its borders to the free worlds.All imported products’whether necessary on a daily basis,were prohibited,not to say forbidden throughout the homeland. A few copies of vinyl records & cartridges tapes of Smokies from Germany were discreetly exchanged under the coat. In its conditions that my friend and I had discovered ,listened to « Living next door to Alice » « Lay back in the arms of someone . Forty years have passed,I’m now living in Europe,lost sight of my old friend,each time the lyrics of Smokie’s songs distill from TH-cam resonate in my ears, I feel like I have turned back at this coffeeshop on the Boulevard. I wish , hope all the best to my old friend by destiny, he read theses memories and will recognize himself and contact me.
Alan Barton was a perfect singer. I thought he was better than Chris. It's just so sad that this accident ended Alans life. Just so sad, still after all these years.
