Fantastic vid , at 1 min 45 , parsonage colliery, I grew up on the street on the left, Clifton street from 1969 to 80 great memories of messing about by the brook
Brilliant Derek so many memories of where I was brought up in the Bedford area of Leigh, and of Plank Lane and the pit where I once worked, the photo of the kids playing football on the Heath is for me one of the best pics taken in Leigh ever.
Wonderful stuff Derek, great choice of music as well. I have to say, for all the advances of modern times, Ley looked much better way back when, even as I remember it mostly from the late 70's, early 80's.
My neighbour Kath Parr, who sadly is no longer with us used to say You wouldn’t believe how much Leigh has changed through the years Now you can see how much it has Wow
I once saw Georgie Fame & Bernard Manning in Leigh. My Dad would sometimes work overtime on Saturdays at Plank Lane and Parsonage, probably in 50's. His regular place was Lime Pit, then Parkside.
Plank Lane the legend that was. They've built new houses and flats near't swing bridge and suddenly it's become 'Pennington Wharfe,' Suppose it sells better than 'Plonk Lone Wharfe.'
great memories of plonk lone used to play over heath when we were younger and remember my mam working in canteen at parsonage pit mi dad was blacksmith there aswell nice 1 derek
Hi Derek great shots... I would like to (with your permission) use some of this footage in my next music video about Leigh. Please DM me if this is a possibility thanks.
@@davidhart7792 former MP for Leigh (Labour as well) Andy burnham has still done nothing about a train station ffs. Get out of labours arse both Tory and Labour are vile
The well Known comedian Ken Platt came from Plank Lane and Ken Dodd mentioned it on TV, in his ' An Audience with Ken Dodd ' programme. Can't get more famous than that!!!
That old photo from Westleigh Heath is an insanely great shot.
Good video Derek..But I can still remember when Leigh was opened now it’s closed...
Fantastic Derek. My late husband is the one walking towards Parsonage Colliery. Thanks, it's brilliant.
Enjoyed that, many thanks for sharing.

The photo at 2 mins. I walked here every day going to school in 80s. That's how I remember it. Thanks for this great video 👍🏻
Loved it Derek. Was amazing to show my children the corner of our old back on Victoria street and the canal. Thank you for your effort.
That was TOTALLY awesome and very interesting, even though I’ve never been there! I live in Houston, Texas. Thanks for the nostalgia!
I don't recommend going there, probably the biggest shit hole in the UK 💀
Fantastic loved it. Thanks was great seeing all the old haunts as was. You do forget how places can and do change when you see the places daily.
Amazing footage. As a young family growing up in Leigh, and vlogging around the town, this is an important piece of history you have shared! Thankyou.
love this music, very haunting

Leigh had a town centre in the 'good old days'

Mr Meager?
Was he polish as I can remember a old man. Just at Sid of Hayes factory
Karen's shop
for it to go tory is a disgrace to previous working class mining generations whos lives were destroyed by the closure of the pits by the tories
Not to mention our railway station.
Labour have let us down for decades that’s why they ended up voting Tory, Labour had full control for centuries and let us down time and time again

@@WLC3991 Not sure about the Language, but agree with you regarding Golborne station. MP's seem to say whatever will get them votes at the time.
Then (1960s) : beautiful, ideal for holidays
Now (2020): shite just shite
